Hardware & Technical Virpil WarBRD and Mongoos T50 Throttle are now up for pre-order.

I've got an answer to an email I sent to Virpil EU about a week ago where I asked about the Noobifier bundle that you can get from the .by site.
If I understood the email correctly there will be a bundle like that on the EU site in the end of the month.
So if anyone wants to buy a bundle with dual sticks and desk mounts, keep an eye out for it in the end of this month or beginning of next. Hopefully it will shave a few euros of from the price compared to the price if you buy it now.

Does anybody know if the MongoosT-50CM(upgraded) Flightstick has twist on it, or do you need rudder peddles?
What’s the Virpil kit like? Is it highly recommended?

Thinking of getting the throttle too, as VKB are a lost cause in every way, which is a shame as I like their kit.

As above, no twist, but there has been talk of an adapter in the works for a while now. I wouldn't be surprised to see it magically appear on the site in the next couple of months. I'm saying this, because space sim folks tend to be the ones mostly asking for this, and with the release of the space grip... Well, just seems logical.

Z...

Had a bout of trying to clean my gear.
Thinking I may have borked my CH-fighterstick a bit, getting rather sticky on the roll axis, did find a lot of cat hair in there.
And after breaking my right toe brake on the CH pedals I left the throttle be.

Granted I'm fairly confident it could some dust or what not stuck in the sensor, but it is very tempting to get something a little more resolved.
As far as I'm concerned the only drawback with the CH gear is the noisy 8 bit sensors.

So, barring a sudden attack of sense, I'm looking for an upgrade, which has me asking.

Just getting a warthog, or splurging the virpil ?

I have been drooling over the virpil since I first saw one a while back, but it costs twice that of the warthog stick, even though on sale now..
But if the Mongoose is worth it I would probably still want one..

Twist axis is of zero worth to me, I got a pair of MFG Crosswinds on order. already.

So my wallet hopes you can convince me the warthog is fine, or just go for it?

My guess (since I don't even own anything except a keyboard and mouse) is that most would say that a warthog stick is just fine. It does the job and has all the buttons you would need on a flight stick and it feels like quality compared to the lower tier sticks you can buy.
If you want to save those extra pennies on buying the warthog go for it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I myself will go for the virpil when the time comes. The difference in the mechanics involved makes me think that the immersion will be even better with the virpil when you can change resistance and cams and all that.

No doubt, heck the thrustmaster X is 'good enough' :D

Elite doesn't require much, but I tend to want it all.

Benefit of the warthog being price, and that the button layout is identical with the CH-fighterstick I have used since 2015 in ED for almost 3000 hours, so should be a quick remap and less muscle memory panic, granted I'm positive I can adapt.
But I'm not overly keen on thrustmaster in general, and they have done the stick all backwards.

Metal casing with plastic gimbals ?
That should have been the other way around.
Sure their sensor is great, but what help is that when the plastics break..

And it would go so nicely along with the pedals I have ordered already that alone costs more than the warthog stick...

Oh, well.
I slipped and fell on my mastercard..

You are like me then, we both want it all :D.

You can't take the money with you anyway when you die so you might as well spend it on things you really want when you are alive.
And as you say, the virpil stick will go very nice with your new pedals.

Indeed. But i guess the new couch will have to wait.

good thing I don't even have an SO to whack me over the head either.
Which is good since I wouldn't see the flying pan with the rift on. :)

But now that I have hit the button.
My fighterstick has been behaving exemplary after opening it up and blowing on the sensor and jiggling some wires.

Don't trust the stick. It's just trying to lure you to cancel the order on the new one.

Congrats! I'm still patiently waiting for my order (Throttle and CM stick) to ship :p Currently entirely without a HOTAS setup after the electrical issue that fried my old gear! Thankfully we have great weather and 32 degrees here in Oslo now so it's not really gaming weather anyway ;)

Got my t-50 today.

Still setting things up, mostly been busy carpenting this thing into my sort of existing setup.
Only complaint I got so far is it seems I need to use a fair amount of force to get 100% output of it.
I suspect there is a cam better suited as well as perhaps seeing if the lighter springs will help.

that's tomorrow.

And here is my current wall mount setup for the Virpil.

Here's my first impression.

Still getting it dialed in, I still have yet to change cams and springs so just using the initially mounted, and I have to admit.
My shoulder is hurting a bit.

Even after lightening the spring via the accessible, but this is the cam, It has been built to do this since it is to simulate.
I will now tear it down and try the lower resisting included cam, but I have already ordered the Cosmosim cam from their site, along with the extension kit.
https://virpil-controls.by/en/shop/accessories/vpc-cams-cosmo-vpc

I'm positive that will see me sorted.

As for the rest, the buttons are a delight, so tactile and pleasurable to use, nice and firm clicks and in fact easier to reach than my CH fighterstick.
And input around the center is almost telepathic and SOOOOOO precise in comparison, where the fighterstick needed about two stops of deadzone applied in ED, this is stable at 0 and the sensitivity of this already allowing me to make smaller adjustments in game.
Just sort the issue with the cam and this should be, just amazing.

Just need a nice throttle with low force input and a thumb stick and I must have one.

Can confirm the default cam is unpleasant for space sims! I swapped to the "normal" centre detent cam which was considerably better, but had a noticeable center bump. The space sim cam apparently combines a much looser center feel with the light resistance at full deflection :) Should be good!

Hi TorTorden,

I’m about to order my t-50 in the next few days.
Would be interested in your findings, once you receive & have the cosmosim cam fitted.

I’ve got the Virpil throttle on pre-order, but it’s a few weeks from being delivered.......unfortunately.

Will do.

Managed to get my stick back together just now, but darn those screws on the cams are .

I barely attempted to turn one on the pitch axis and the head just shredded itself, I'm now going to have to get a removal drill set just to get it out.
Be aware.

I do have some success to report though, since I changed the springs to the lighter variant, that seems very good. I also swapped cam's on the roll axis which was my primary concern and must admit that center detent is very present, not necessarily bad and I'm used to one from the fighterstick.

In use though it feels very smooth, very detailed, I don't need to apply any deadzone as mentioned so even if a cat breathes on it might get a little input, but if I rest naturally or let go it's dead still.
I might even just change the roll cam back, after the weaker springs it could actually be my preferred out of the included set.
And I'm fairly certain I can now use this stick relatively fatigue free.

But yea, I need to get a hold of a pigdick, as we call them :p

Would have hoped they had fixed this issue since I got mine. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the cams before removal or you are 100% guaranteed to strip the head. I ended up having to dremel out a notch in mine to use a flat head to get them off... they need to either go for one big screw instead of two small ones, or get torx heads or something stronger.

Yeah definitely prefer torx.

But it's not so much the size or Phillips head type.
These four screws are simply made of such a soft metal And they even apply some modicum of locktite on them I believe.

I can't believe there is that hard to find m4×5mm screws with a flush head thst they have to resort to these soft screws.

I took mine so far I am going to have to get this drilled, not that I own a dremel anyway ;)
And this was the first screw I have managed to strip to this kind of degree.

Again apart from these four screws the stick is an absolute treat.
I was almost able to even use the other cam completely without having to re-calibrate, I think it was half a degree off at most.
And when you take into account that these are 7-8000 sensitive sensors where my old was 255 at best and 15 of those was 'natural noise'. the Virpil fluctuate less than 2 points..
