Guide / Tutorial Voice Controlling Elite:Dangerous - A Guide

Well I'm very new to all this and am really happy I've discovered this. Top banana for making the thread Flak :)

@Spiggs - your video and set up looked like it works really well. Can I ask if your ready to share it yet. Or are you refining some more first.

And from what you said about having to use two profiles, I wonder if VA can have a feature to voice activate swapping VA profiles. Unless it does have this already. Then you'd just need to speak it, and not waste a hotkey or tab out. Maybe someone could suggest it to the dev. 'Profile Switch' 'Cobra one' etc.

@TheGoatee - Thanks for explaining :)

Switching profiles is something that is already supported by VA :) The only thing I would want to see improved in this area however is that your two profiles would have a LOT of commands in common. It would be great if those common parts could be configured separately in one profile, and then for the ship-specific commands to be selected 'on top' of the common set. So having a 'common commands' profile that is included from the Sidewinder and Cobra profiles.

I'll send the author of VA a mail and see what he says about this. But I can imagine that it would be a LOT of work to add that feature.

Hi JR. Still tweaking ATM, but I will post it up once I've finished tinkering.

Thanks.

Sure wish I could get into the game now... but any spare money I could use I'd be better off buying the £35 expansions pack I think, rather than getting in a month or two early.

Voice command to change VA profile, Kool, cool cool cool.

I wonder what comms we will have in-game, both with other players and with the use of voice porting and background cockpit.ships noises when we speak and when we hear others. All totally controlled with lots of options, a little bit, to a lot or none at all and no comms what so ever. Options for all. * voice porting - term coined by the devs of Interstellar marines. A tech the plan to introduce later this year for voice comms effects.

Yo Flak thx a lot for doing the nice guide on Voice attack it got me interested and using it atm
Real cool ;)
Btw. using it to change profiles indeed even cooler lol hadn't thought about that .

Has anyone tested voice commands using an Antlion Modmic 4.0? I'm using a set of AKG K601 (open) headphones and was wondering if the noise cancellation and clarity of the Modmic work well together with programs such as Voice Attack.

Ace thread. I was able to overcome the lack of a detent on my FFB2 throttle by creating an all-stop command. :D

OK just bought VA. Anybody have a profile for ED yet that I can import? I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks. :D

*EDIT* Just thought I'd note my TrackIR will be here tomorrow (June 28) WOOT!! So voice attack, TrackIR, X52 HOSTAS setup with Saitek pedals too. Oh I'm all set for Standard beta July 29th. AND I'm 61 on July 6th, so July is going to be a good month for me. :D

Hope that helps folks

Following the excellent coverage of VoiceAttack in the latest LAVERADIO episode, I thought I'd post a link to the VoiceAttack guide which was also mentioned.

Any feedback on the guide is greatly appreciated - good or bad!

You can also download the VoiceAttack profile that is detailed in the guide from here : Elite Dangerous-Profile.vap

Thanks for this Flak, is there a anything new that we need to know about with regard to either PB2.1 or new iterations of VA?

Thanks for this, looking forward to getting this running.

I have to confess, I have had much fun using VOICE ATTACK... I don't have the Elite game yet.

Just customizing the commands and the text-to-Speech stuff is fun hah.

Yeah I will go now...

Just out of interest, one of the things I'd most like to use VA for is keys on my Thrustmaster being replaced by speedy voice recognition than waiting for me or else keyboard input.

This tends to be things like menu controls, but they often involve a number of things, for instance, going to the right UI panel and then going across to a particular section and selecting, say landing gear etc. So how do people handle a number of commands like this? As I don't think the guide covers how to do this, but I've seen it happen.

Appreciate the help, thanks

The best thing to do might be to get one of the example profiles mentioned in this thread, and just study how they do the commands, especially the more complex ones, like you're talking about. It's easy to grasp, once you see one in action along with the code. Basically you're building upon a number of key presses, and timing them so they aren't too fast for the game. So you have one key press to get to the side panel, wait a micro second, one key press to move over one tab, wait, a key press down as many times as needed for the system you want with pauses in between, and then a key to activate it.

The biggest problem to date I've found is making sure that you will always start at the "home" tab of each panel, otherwise you'll get a totally wrong action. Unfortunately, there is no home command for that, and supposedly FD won't put in one because it would aid macroing.

So to fix that, I just make sure that after the system is activated, I have key presses to get back to the home tab, so I (hopefully) will always start in the same spot.
