You get my Vote, and also an attempt at posting to keep the thread visible.

I do hope the devs pull through for you on this one. And very sorry for you loss.

It looks like the floor of what would otherwise still be a magnificent crater. Anyway. I wouldn't mind (well, actually I would; look at the crater around it, such a nice huge crater, ruined by an arbitrary block of magically elevated terrain) it becoming more realistic, and by that I mean both the steepness and textures of walls, the ultra-flat surface, and the jagged rim that is clearly broken geometry. Meanwhile, I have made a bug thread as the OP apparently decided to not do it lest it may compromise their pet project.

Thanks for the additional publicity??

No, seriously, I agree with you in that this is clearly a bug. As I mentioned in the posts, the edges are jaggy and there are gaps in the wall through which you can drive the SRV. That and no landform like this should have been able to form without an atmosphere.

However, I have come to the conclusion that anomalies such as this one should be left in. Sure, if they can be cleaned up a little, that would be great. There are others out there and there will be more found I am certain. Craters are easy to find, they're everywhere. Landforms like this provide something of an attraction that can be visited by Commanders who are so inclined. It's also very easy to ignore and certainly has no effect on gameplay unless you choose to drive through the gaps.

As for my pet project... well, yes, it would be really cool if I managed to get my settlement. This whole thing is ultimately just a bit of fun, though. It would be a shame (from my perspective - and others apparently) to see the 'bug' corrected.

Look at that landscape. That is such an awesome crater you would have had right there. What I see is how it is ruined by this bug, and even turning that into an odd but realistically possible mountain still ruins the crater. You know what I would do if I could make the decision for FD? I'd fix the bug and then name the entire planet Lester's World.

Fair enough. Each to their own.

Where is the poll option for, "fix the bug, tune down this guy's ego".

Sorry. No option for that. I didn't really want this to turn negative. If you don't want to share in my little bit of fun, you can choose to ignore it. I guess you can also share your sentiment on fixing the 'bug' on Mephane's bug report if you really need to. :(

Right, so no one else is allowed to say no, only you are allowed to say no to anyone else's objections.

It's a fun little thread. I voted yes, but come on. We both know there's no way that FDev is going to keep this bug in and put a base there, let along clean up the area so the obvious glitch can stay in. Even the OP knows this will never happen. The reason there is no option in the poll to truly oppose the proposal is because this isn't a serious proposal. Inviting serious debate would be pointless.

I feel that you are missing my attempt at humour with that poll.

You are free to object as a reply. I had already taken your previous reply as such. And, like I said before, you can register your objection on Mephane's bug report too.

I feel that you are missing my attempt at humour with that poll.

Well to be fair, there have been a lot of polls over the course of the past year that were designed precisely like this with no intention of actual humour:

Option 1: "Completely agreed!!!11"
Option 2: "I agree."
Option 3: "I am against this because I am a moron, kthxbye." (not always present)

So it is natural to expect this to be yet another one of those polls. I also initially thought this way until your response to me linking the bug thread. Now I see this was meant in good will and a bit of jest, and it is of course not really your fault that so many previous polls have been formally similar and with completely earnest and egoistic intent.

I understand and share the awe, impressive landmarks induce. I would like to see some of them scattered (even hand-crafted) in the universe in order to create a "must-have-seen" list for space tourists - including future possible (BB-mission) cruises when passenger transportation is a thing.

This plateau, however, is a bug. "Cleaning" its edges won't help, as its position in the middle of this crater is pointless! A large part of ED:H's appeal is based on its scientiffically correct simulation of the planets geology. This plateau doesn't make sense. At all! All it does is destroying the visuals of an otherwise impressive crater.
If something is a bug, treat it as such - fix it!

As I stated, I enjoy those unique and awe-inspiring features, too. I would like to see intentional plateaus like this at some point in the future. However, they will have to wait until planets with atmosphere are introduced into Elite: Plateaus like this usually are formed by so called 'intrusions' - magama plugs that ascended into the crust and hardened to very solid rock. The surrounding (softer) rocks will erode over the eons (weather and hence an atmosphere is needed!) and shape the intrusion as a prominent landmark.

Gets my vote. If it wasn't for inspiration and the money to buy my first PC, I wouldn't have got into Elite. So here is a vote to all the parents and others who bought us our first foray into the dark expanses of space. If it were not for these people this game wouldn't exist so here is an opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of them

I also think due to the procedural nature and the likelihood of that (and worse!) glitches being present on countless other Planets, that request will be impossible to fulfill.

But what it does give is inspiration for rare topographic highlights (extremes).
As others said, rare spots that are worth visiting and create such well-known landmarks.

Like what Nebulas are in Space (albeit easier visible), just Highlights scattered on the ground in very rare locations (procedurally spoken, an extremely low probability of occurence).

But we have some many awesome craters, billions !!! This bug is good :)

Correct :D open your own thread asking for this to be removed and I bet you'll get lots of votes :)

His post, his poll, his options.
Or for a bit more Latin gravitas within this humourous thread,
"Hi post eius poll eius options"
Yes ! :)

Finally, why are we doing this poll at all ?(I do want to keep this) did FD say they were removing it ? :S

FD haven't said anything that I have seen. I'm really hoping they keep them.

The poll is just a bit of an offshoot from my original post. I've already named the plateau myself (after my father). But I thought that those imposing cliffs really needed a base sitting right at the top. So I proposed building Khelder's Keep (after my Cmdr - because I have a big ego apparently) on top. The poll was more of a show of support type of thing.

Yes, I know it's not likely to happen. But it's fun anyway.

What is the name for it as my NICKNAME column in
  • HORIZONS' WONDERS
