Modes WARNING: A new type of trolling.... (MOVING TO MOBIUS)

Re-read the OP: he states clearly that "some bad person" was deliberately hanging out around the mailslot with no shields. The OP sounds kind of flaky and judgmental to be honest, and I'm simply offering another take on the story. The OP demands that we take his statement at face value with no facts to back it up, so why is his story any more accurate than my own? Surely you've seen how these entitled Corvette/Cutter pilot's enter/exit stations just brushing everybody out of their way without a care?

Yeah I've seen those types brushing smaller ships out the way without a care.
I also see articulated truck drivers attempt similar on Lincolnshire roads on a daily basis.
I wouldn't cycle in front if one deliberately, though. Knowing they *might* get into trouble with plod is no consolation when you're dead.
So I use the same life skill when confronted by entitled Corvette drivers. I'm usually able to avoid altogether, since I'm using my wits and staying <100m/s. Just let them slip past no drama.
Deliberately getting toasted in the rack is for bell-whack cheese-munchers only. Found only inhabiting Open.

I'm not for one second saying entitled Corvette driver is blameless. Deserves a fine. Not to the value of 33MCr/ though. C'mon. We both know this hard-line rule is out of whack.

Yours Aye

[mad] I've just had 66mill of credits stripped off me in less than two minutes...

At the CG event (Oracle Station) there is a player who is deliberately flying a ship with no shields and hiding out near the mailslot targeting larger ships. He / she is deliberately putting themselves in your way when you try and pass - causing you to clip their ship, become wanted and blown up by the station.

This happened once as I entered, and once as I left. AVOID!!! Totally put off this game now. After hours of gameplay I had 115mill credits in the bank and now I'm down to less than half of that in two minutes flat and thanks to some jerk.

I was really looking forward to a search and rescue CG too.

So apparently a dedicated PVE server is needed to stop this stupid behavior.

So it is possible that the target can be stationary INSIDE a station and still get a fine, then get blown up? Can we chill out about the speeding stuff now and address the gankers?

Just fyi, not new.
it Should have been fixed though last I checked (have not read more then initial page yet) so that if you stay below 100 even if they blow up you won't be hit with a murder charge? if you do, yeah that's messed up.

To the ones objecting to having to fly less than 100m/s : why? Why do you object to flying less than 223.6936 Miles per hour?

I'll repeat that figure; 100 metres per second is 223.6936 Miles Per Hour.

So even if you're flying at 95 metres per second, that's still 212.5089 miles per hour!

Is it because you think you're travelling slowly? That's an illusion due to the distances you have to travel, and the sheer size of the starports. A Coriolis starport is YUUUGE. So are the other types.

If you're warping in at about 10km from a starport, that's 6.213712 miles. So even at 212 MPH that's going to take about 1.75 minutes to traverse. It's not much, but it seems like a long time, because of the distances involved and size of the starports.

The rules as they stand are, that if you're flying more than 223.69 miles per hour, and you collide with another ship and that ship explodes, you get blamed for that. The other player has already paid the price for going over the speed limit, by dying, albeit in some crazy kamikaze manoeuvre.

Players who fly their weakened ships into yours, are taking advantage of that law. They're hoping that you're flying more than 223.69 miles per hour, specifically to have the starport authorities blow you and your ship up.

And this is why I am puzzled at the reaction of some here to the speeding law, because I guarantee you, there is nothing funnier than having some halfwit's weakened iEagle or Sidewinder blow up against your hull/shields, and nothing happens to you because you are flying within the allowed speed.

And lastly, I'll remind you that 1) The speed limit was introduced because there was agame loophole which allowed players to repeatedly ram your ship to death at speed. 2) 100m/s (212.5089 MPH) is the maximum speed, above which a shielded Sidewinder would get destroyed in a collision, and that's the reason that figure was chosen.

Take your time when flying towards a starport - enjoy the view! - look around in wonder at the splendour of the starport as you fly towards it! Laugh as some Yahoo boosts their weakened small ship against your hull and all that happens is they blow up :)

While I hate the mentality of those who try to get folks killed this way, I must say I agree with this 100%.

Those people only do it, because they know some folks will never learn and speed in/ out of stations.
And if people find they cannot fly "that slow" then they should buy a docking computer.

... what relevance does that have? What does where the game was developped have to do with the fact the OP plays a homicidal maniac in-game?

Just responding to a previous post that used the word Homicide in respect to a person throwing themselves in front of a train in order to commit suicide.
I have several friends who are train drivers here in the UK. Train drivers are not committing murder in the UK in this scenario. Seems like a relevant analogy.

Arguably the less skilled have to hide in a PvE mode, because they can't cut it in Open.

Arguably not.

Dammit, I use SI units. Anyways, I understand that this feature is there for something but then I find it amusing that everybody here is only blaming the big ship that was overspeeding considering the smaller ship was also overspeeding and did not have proper shields to prevent hull damage in case of a bump.

There are two universes here, amongst the many universes (if you subscribe to that theory)...

In the first universe, someone was piloting a big ship and was breaking the local starport's speed limit, an idiot in a small ship boosted into the speeding ship. This same pilot in a shiny new and rebought huge ship, decided to break the local starport's speed law again, whilst undocking. The same idiot flew another shiny new small ship into them, and we have this thread.

In some other universe, a pilot flew a huge ship, but was obeying the local starport's speed law. An idiot in a small ship flew into them, and that idiot blew up. The pilot of the big ship laughed a hearty laugh, and docked. The same pilot of the huge ship undocked and again obeyed the speed law. The same idiot in their shiny new small ship flew into that huge ship again, and blew up. The pilot of the huge ship laughed a hearty laugh. They then made a parallel-universe thread in a parallel-universe forum, laughing about the whole thing.

I think I prefer the latter universe. :)

So it's both faults?

If you fly under 100m/s then they are just damaging themselves which doesnt cost you anything

Not true.
Every time I get hit from behind (while I am doing 95m/s) I get fined. I have played for over 15 weeks in total hours. I have been barged by NPCs almost every time I play.
Why is my total fines so large? It is because a station fines the player, not the offender.
And to add, I have only been fined a small amount for my own wrongdoings. 458 fines issued. Over 400 were from being hit from behind.

To add: Never hit a ship head on when entering/exiting.

I was doing one trade CG in a T7 and i dont know if the guys were in a wing or what, but I got hit by 3 different suicidewinders (actually eagles, i think) within 15 - 30 seconds. I wasn't speeding and they all exploded off the side of me. Was pretty damn funny.

I think I can name atleast two of them right off the bat ;)

Dam Tree jumped out of nowhere and greifed me, dam gankers

I was only doing 130mph and the tree just leapt in front of me. its the trees fault not mine

where's the Mobius for real life? prison?

I know it sounds stupid (and that's because I am stupid), but I always obeyed the >100ms speed limit because I thought you had to. After my first station warning back in the Sidewinder days, I thought "Gee-Willikers, I better no go over the speed limit. It's against the law."

Now I feel silly. I didn't know you could go fast than 100ms coming or going from the stations. Gosh.
