was there an optimisation pass at all?

And now mr. Braben posted that he plays Elite with the GPU that I have and it's running fine on Ultra. I'm guessing there's hope for getting Odyssey to run smoothly on every configuration, just gotta find the connection. \o/

I have noticed if that I changed graphical presets the game becomes quite laggy. For example, within the hanger, I was getting around 30 FPS on "high".

Reboot the game and it's back to 60 FPS. Certainly, something going on. If you notice there's no performance increase in changing the presets try giving the game a restart.

I updated my 3090 drivers and made a few graphics tweaks based on Cmdr Exigious recommendations, on his site. After that I can easily go over 60-90 FPS in Lave station hub area on a 2k monitor. The GPU was running at about 60%.
I tried a triple monitor setup next with Nvidia surround at 7680x1440 and I can just barely reach 60 FPS. The fans go full speed and the GPU goes to 100% all the time. It’s probably too much to ask.

I might skip the surround anyway, the side monitor distortion makes my head sick in on foot mode. I’ll miss the wide screen in open space. I could buy a 21:9 curved monitor but I’m not sure how that will work.

Maybe populated stations have an impact on servers. I've traveller into stations that are very far from their star, or isolated planetary stations too, and the fps were way better.

On CZ, I've tried the lowest resolution possible with low settings (and disabled everything that was possible) and can't go beyond 16 fps. Unplayable. But I noticed that the more the foes are killed, the better the fps become (well, 23 fps...)

I play on Geforce Now, that is running smoothly almost every games on Ultra settings (i.e Horizons, 120 fps)

So it's not about config.

For me it’s about trying to find settings that make the game work acceptably until FDev can deal with the issues. I am used to using 3 monitors and that’s a heavy load on the GPU. I’m also not sure I want to use 3 monitors in surround while on foot so there aren’t a lot of options.

I guess I could fly in Horizons and switch to EDO while on foot, maybe each with a different display configuration. If that’s possible.

As to the Reddit post, while what they have analyzed might be true, it doesn’t amount to proof unless they work for FDev and have access to the code. It also doesn’t explain why some configurations work very well and others don’t. I’m sure FDev will need to do a lot of general optimization as well as hardware specific optimizations.
