was there an optimisation pass at all?

Ryzen 3700x
32GB DDR4 @ 3600Mhz
RTX GeForce 3080
3840x1600 @ 144Hz
All max in game AA = FXAA (didn't make any changes to them for years...)

In the new training mission (which I really liked) I had around ~ 60 FPS
In Space around 70-80 FPS
In Station on foot 35-45 FPS

Then I went to my ship, stepped in to the elevator, drove down and as the door opened immediately my FPS dropped to under 20.
It took awhile and then they got back to around 60FPS.

Figured out that my GPU is not utilized fully. It's always around 65% - CPU slightly below that. (was it always like that?)
I'm guessing it is caused by the new graphics that have been implemented into the game.

But from what I was able to see from the game until i received a connection error and was thrown out of the game - I really like it.

cheers

EDIT:

Figured out that when the game has started and the first time you're placed in game - my frames are much much better.

Logged in and was deployed on foot in Jamesons Memorial - had around 70-80 FPS while i was placed in the hanger bay,

when i disembarked from my ship and entered the lobby, i had around pretty decent 65-75 FPS.

Had a look on my OSD from MSI Afterburner and i was wondering because, my GPU ultilization was suddently always 98% @ ~1980MHz. Alright!

Back in the ship and left the station had approx ~85 FPS in space in front of the station.

THEN:

Hyperdrive into another random system. Entered the system got blinded by the sun as usual ... and was around 122-135 FPS. (Preset Ultra, same resolution as mentioned above)

Head to the next station -> jumped in and suddently recognized lower FPS as before. Docked the ship and disembark.

So here we back again -> max. GPU utilization ~60% and FPS as mentioned above.

First recognized as i read about this "trick" with deleting your graphic settings in C:\users\username\local\.... blah blah

I initially thought that this change may caused my FPS increase - but it wasn't the case. It was because i restarted the game.

Went to another system, same behavior.

Anyone else who can confirm this?

Only change -> upgraded NVIDIA driver suite as also somewhere mentioned here in the forum.

Hope you can sort this out and fix it - would really appreciate it. :)

cheers

I've not tried the release yet, but that is a really good description of the alpha...
I'm VERY interested to hear from someone with VR, though I suspect you run a top-of-the-line rig that can handle it without dropping you into vomit comet framerates. Me, on the other hand, am right to the margin with VR and very fast Horizons.

If it runs like this on PCs then FDEV should save themselves embarrassment and skip the original PS4 and XB1 hardware for consoles. Maybe target PS5 and Xbox Series S|X only.

Not at all surprised with the optimization issues between Alpha and urm, Beta. Some people actually believed final release would result in a 60% performance increase. That's not optimization. That's a miracle.
I was repeatedly called "stupid", "ignorant" and "negative" because I suggested that my observed 22 FPS lows in alpha were hardly going to triple by the time it got to release.

Well, it's release - and guess what - I have 22 FPS lows and Odyssey still looks and feels qualitatively worse than in Horizons.

Im running the recommend specs on 1080p high and got 25 lowest on planets to 125 in supercruise. Better than the alpha but still reminds me of 2077

I need to drop my settings down to medium if I want to get anywhere near 60fps in settlements. Horizons runs at 60fps on ultra no problem. FDev, this is not acceptable. My specs far exceed the recommended specs and performance is still bad at 1080p even with the settings turned down to a level where the game looks like it's from 2010 or something. Are you "recommending" that people play this on low settings or what? Because that seems to be the only way the "recommended" specs are getting a solid 60fps everywhere including stations and settlements.

Despite all of my previous disappointments with Elite, I've given Odyssey every benefit of the doubt. But alas, it's looking more and more like nothing has changed and I'll have to get a refund. I'll wait for a bit longer and see if they acknowledge the issue and start working on a solution, but if not, I'm bailing out.

I only got the chance to play the first Phase of the Alpha (moving house, etc) but honestly it feels like I had better performance there than I do now? 😬

The good news is that if you have a death-by-slideshow during the tutorial mission, it respawns you back at a checkpoint right before the combat, but oof... I could have done with a less target-rich first firefight to start with, just to realise how bad the FPS was gonna get.

It was optimised quite a bit from Alpha, however it will still tax older systems.

Will need a lot of work to be able to work on the legacy consoles. At present it would need a next gen console eg ps5 to get decent performance. I wonder if it will end up being a next gen console only exclusive.

That's current gen consoles. Next gen is PS6.

Frontier have already said they have no plans for a current gen port of the game. They're targeting last gen only.

I run a triple monitor setup, driven by 2 x GTX 970's. There is no apparent improvement from Alpha, my graphics cards were melting too.
Set it back to a single monitor 1920 x 1080 at mid resolution and still only getting 20 - 30 FPS.
Not impressed, I'm afraid

My watercooler pooped its pants yesterday, so I won't be trying this with the i9-9940x/64gb/GTX1080ti desktop, but instead trying it on the i7-6700k/64gb/GTX1080 laptop, when it eventually downloads, but I'll give you a shout tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

On my first tests with the training mission (can't connect to the severs it seems) performances seemed similar or worse than the alpha.
However general graphic quality seemed better, maybe it's the lighting.
I have to do more tests

still runs better than con citizen for me*black adder, troupe sidewinder, orange krait... launch day!!!!

Everything runs beautifully on my PC - Horizons, Space Engineers, Red Dead Redemption 2, even frickin Microsoft Flight Simulator. Yet someone else with pretty much the same hardware is getting 20-30 fps on a game that doesn't hold a candle to RDR2 or MFS, graphics-wise.

Oh dear Lord in heaven, I'm saying the very same thing I used to say about my PS4 when Frontier screwed up ED on that! Shoot me now..

iu

EDIT - wait, don't shoot me now, because Horizons still works great. Save that bullet for this autumn when Odyssey tech is rolled back into Horizons.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

I can run FS2020 on High on my overclocked 980, and even that doesn't peg the GPU at 100%.

Just did the training mission. VR - RTX2080 - 32gb ram, i7 9770k

Grey floaty screen of disappointment
performance didn't seem any better than Alpha, when docking at the station, the frame rate was bloody awful
missing textures on my Krait's landing gear (same as Alpha)
HUD elements horrible and not aligned
smoke looks like flat sprites (worse that EDH)
need to test (sorry, PLAY) more to see more. not thrilled at the moment. Will pick up again tomorrow night, early start tomorrow, so would rather be unconscious right now :(

90-10 VR/2D Player here.

Went from an average of 89.5fps on my Vive with Horizons over 3 hours of play last night, to this hot mess..
100% reprojection, still dropping frames.

CPU and GPU frametime is almost 300% longer with Odyssey. It's like they were developing this without performance in mind in the slightest.
