I would love to have a Limpet bobble head for my krait mk2 so i can send it to bring me a cup of coffee from the coffee machine i cant reach. but that wont happen anytime soon
It would probably help if all stuff affecting your own ship gets handled via right hand panel. We are still not there though...Hull Repair Limpets have a similar issue if you're repairing yourself - you have to launch them with no target selected. So that gives us at least three limpets that work in 'no target selected' mode, and for two of them it's optional.
Gah...this is tricky!
Edit: and decon limpets as well! That's four of the blessed things!
How would you choose what kind of limpet to fire?
You're all forgetting the easiest option--add more keybindings!! I mean, it's not like the current binds list is seventeen pages yet.
I have an idea!
- Back, Forward, Down, Down, 2: Collector.
- Forward, Back, Down, Down, 2: Prospector
- Up, Up, Down, Down, 2: Fuel
...and so forth.
If it were up to me I would just have the options listed underneath the "active" option in the module menu. How would you choose what kind of limpet to fire?

You ninja'd mesame way we do now - just assign them to different fire groups. functionally it would be exactly the same, you would have different limpet controllers listed in your fire groups and you can assign them same as now. Only difference would be you only have a single module instead of 1 per controller.

You ninja'd me
I was just typing the same!
True, but they’re not being very consistent. For instance, we don’t buy collector limpets, we buy limpets. We don’t buy prospector limpets, we buy limpets. They’ve already started down that road, they may as well finish the trip.Nice idea. But I am almost sure that several special controllers is a FD way to prevent the overall convergence to one universal tank ship, armed to teeth and doing almost everything. Maybe except Exploration...
A slight problem with this approach is that prospector limpets work completely differently to the others when it comes to firing them when you already have the maximum out - all the other types just don't fire the limpet, whereas prospectors self-destruct the oldest one. I'm not sure how this would fit in if you had a large controller and a mix of prospector and collector limpets out, for example - you don't want to fire the prospector and end up destroying your collectors ... but conversely if you accidentally fired off one collector too many you'd have no way to clear just one of them to fire a prospector again if it didn't self-destruct them.
Yep, I was over-thinking it. For some reason I was thinking the fire groups section would need to extend horizontally, but that's not the case at all. All that would happen is that when you fit a limpet controller it would give you options for each type of limpet. Here's one I mocked up just now:

Sorry, not a good idea on any level considered. You already have universal limpets, so specific types of controllers make sense - they are an equivalent of specific tools for specific jobs and I don't see how making them all become one thing will make anything better, more logical or more fun.
