Before somebody will get a "great" idea of mass-scraping Inara and get skewed data anyway (due users privacy settings):

I was asked for some numbers of Inara commanders credits earlier and there is the output. I think somebody put it here on the forum earlier, too.

Disclaimer: These data are just and only from Inara commanders updating their profiles and may not represent the actual game state at all. The sample size is around 100k commanders, the numbers are covering just the credits achieved (not the overall assets value) till end of August 2019.
  • ~ 82% commanders are having less than 1 billion in credits
  • ~ 18% are having more than 1 billion in credits
  • ~ 7% are having more than 2 billions in credits
  • ~ 2% are having more than 5 billions
  • ~ 0.7% are having more than 10 billions
  • ~ 0.2% are having more than 20 billions
I hope this helps. ;)

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work anyway: a few months ago I started work on a tool that would make in-browser requests for my Inara pages (while logged in) and the server's Cross Site Origin policy prevented that from working.

Great numbers, though! I'd have guessed that more would have 1 billion+ these days.

I don't have access to the data, so I'm just basing the following from what I know about sociology etc. Just hear me out please.

Granted, human wants are unlimited, but there are a limited number of ways to spend credits in the game. Personally, I run around 1 to 1.3b in the bank. If I get under 1b, I'll dust off the mining cutter and restock the coffers to the tune of 400 million a run. Yes, I could have 10 billion in reserve in under a week, but frankly, mining is boring. I don't need more than what I've got. Yet.

I've recently discovered combat with a G4/5 Corvette is the next best thing to "god mode" for PvE. Trust me, I'm not god's gift to piloting either. Therefore I'm thinking of build some smaller combat ships for the challenge. So spend down to under 1b, maybe, get the mats, then go mining to replace the credits. Rinse, repeat. Honestly, I'm a bit bored atm and need some new content. Grinding credits by mining, grinding mats, and then grinding combat rank in my "endgame" isn't enough. I've been across the galaxy twice already and I'm in no hurry to do it all again without something else to see and do out there. (Hey, so I chill in the forums instead of play sometimes.)

Other commanders, one could argue, function in a similar fashion. Well, once the rank grind is complete if they want access to all the ships. That cost me 400 to 500 million in donations. How I play isn't special, but probably well within the norm. Once I know more about FC's, the costs and so forth, then and only then I'll worry about making more credits if needed. I will not grind more credits unless I have a very good reason, not to simply say I have them; it's not real money we're talking about here.

What I'm saying is, realistically, I have everything I need to be very successful in the game right now with "only" 1.3b left in the bank after the rank grind and outfitting "the big 3" boats for my fleet.

Hence my thoughts on why more commanders don't have more credits in the bank.

If you're bored, try PvP :giggle:

Yeah that was my concern at the start and reason for asking.

Like you said, I could conceivably brute force my way through the inara data but that's a bit disrespectful to the site admin and the data is... not complete.

That said, your post is a reasonable start and it may or may not be enough to make any assumptions from.

nice one, thanks

Does Inara have a loan system? /s 🤪

You can garner some info from inara for example the person with the most traded goods in stats has 70 billion in credits.
But lots keep the credit info hidden.
But its only a small demo and not a full list sadly.

For those here who don't realise, Artie IS the Inara admin/owner. So his stats cover all Inara uses, not just the ones with viewable data.

I agree that carriers will give people a target to aim for so if they come out at 5 billion the 2% club will soon become the 5% club as everyone mines their way towards that target.

But for now, it's the best data we've got or are likely to get.

I can manually put as many credits as I want into my inara log.

Sure, but why would you? If the stats are inaccurate then its more likely because some players have not set the API to read their ED journal and do not manually update INARA. That is probably a minority as its easy to use the API and INARA then keeps your personal stats up to date (e.g. ships, cargo, engineers unlocked, materials, etc...and of course credits).

As the late Carl Sagan said, "millions and billions"...

6.6 billion in CR and 3+ billion more in ships/modules.

10 Billion cash and 6 Billion in ships and equipment. I stopped making money after I was able to make 1 Billion a day with opals. It became stupid work.
