Week 22: Thargoids attacking CW Ursae Majoris and Kamadhenu

Because, peeps need the shield to feel unassailable. I think it would serve if the FdL's shields got a nerf to bring everything into concert. But, that would simply drive even more players into a Large pad ships. The shields on my Krait held up pretty well to 4 bugs zapping away at me. I just have to land more shots.

Still wondering about weapon preference. I know that regular (and thus engineerable) weapons can kill scouts. So what's the better choice when hunting scouts? AX weapons (no guardian weapons unlocked yet) or regular engineered weapons?
.
Also, a question on caustic missiles, as the info in the aliens section of the forum is not clear there. Does PD help against those missiles or not?
.

PD does nothing... best to outrun the missiles which is pretty easy in my build ( see above). I use the same load out for both scouts and interceptors. if anyone is wondering the thermal vent beam is for keeping the ship cool for Gauss shots... the Goods don't have chaff:)

If you are comfortable using fixed weapons, AX or Guardian weapon are preferable but against scouts practice is needed (they are fast and move erratically). A lot of gimballed may be just as effective. When you notice a corrosive missile do a 180 degree turn and Boost - (4 pip to eng) to outrun it. If you're too late and get hit, pop a SCB or two pushing your heat above 200% for a while until corrosive effect is burned off then pop a heatsink (or two)

Cheers
DZ

forgot to say, if you don't have SCB, silent running works ( in a shield-tanking ship with Bi-Weaves) or The Caustic Repair limpets (I forgot their exact name).

Against scouts turretet AX-multis are extremly effective. The Type 10 can use 4 of them, which is the limit for experimental weapons.

The pd is pretty useless against caustic missiles, probability to hit it in time is too low. Try boosting out of range when they come. If you are too slow for that, either:
a) try to sit it out, and repair after the end of the fight (excelent for scouts)
b) Boil it out. AT 200% heat the caustic effect stops

You can use standard weaponry against the scouts, my Corvette does tear through them without too much trouble with turrets/gimballed weaponry. Still, watch out for those caustic missiles, the corrosive effect eats through your hull rather quickly, so be sure to boil it off.

I'm doing OK on scouts with my Krait equipped with beams and MCs. The caustic missiles are a pain but Decontamination limpets do the job nicely once the scouts have been dealt with.

Hey folks, have a vette I can bring to the fun - what non standard weapons are required to make mince meat of these invaders?

Guns.. big ones.... things that have AX next to the name,
If you cant get those, 2 huge multi-cannons, and as many other multi-cannons that will fit and engineer them to lvl 5 overcharged with extra dakka dakka, and blow holes in scouts.

Alternativly, 4 guardian plasma chargers, blow 20% off a cyclops in one shot and yell "Is that all you got?" while it fires lighning back at you.....* :D

Bill

*Having 3000+ shields, 6000+ hull armor and an insane pilot also helps....

Does it really boil down to that? Pick up massacre missions against Thargoids? Also, it writes that Kamadhenu only has scouts. Against those I already did a bit of fighting with regular weapons and were able to kill them. Is that still true? So, are regular weapons preferable to AX weapons?
.

be aware that if the target locations for Thargoid Massacre missions are in other systems they will not count to save the systems.

"be aware that if the target locations for Thargoid Massacre missions are in other systems they will not count to save the systems."

In case people missed it ;)

Got that one. Took me a while to return to the bubble, and then i decided not to tear my Krait apart, but give the Type 10 new life. I hope it'll make good use of the chance on the weekend. :)

Dhanhopi was attacked this week, Bok was saved.

New Targets confirmed as CW Ursae Majoris (nice and close to Sol) and Kamadhenu, both have NHSS and wrecked Megaships (useful for interceptors).

There are interceptor-grade NHSS in CW Ursae Majoris, only scouts in Kamadhenu.

Aegis ships are in both systems - be aware that if the target locations for Thargoid Massacre missions are in other systems they will not count to save the systems.

Thank you for these posts. Very useful stuff.

Just a heads up, Kamadhenu is swarming with, erm, Pro-Thargoid interdictors tonight. You'll want private group or solo if you're bughunting.
