I find it curious that in the year 3300 we've got digital newspapers containing text only.
So I guess video/picture footage was just a fad after all.

Well, it is Bulleting Board System. :)

I read something about the emperors daughter saying something about something somewhere... Looks to be the start of something quite big, maybe, could be.

everything about this quote says you havnt jumped into a warzone 4 or 5 times and seen the same thing happen over and over that's not a persistent universe its a scripted lifeless one these things need to be finite you should jump into the warzone fight like hell and when you kill the ship they stay dead when the carrier dies or doesn't the story updates, also the bulletin boards in these systems need missions to accompany the story, Don't tell me the go to warzone and kill X number of ships is good enough its poor at best it should be Go to Warzone and kill the cap ship(which doesn't respawn) but takes a GROUP of players say 20 (RAID) to kill the shields on it then 5 members split off to kill the shield generator and another 5 to kill the cap ship guns while the other 10 kill the fighters/other players who have missions to protect the cap ship (MULTIPLAYER BOSS FIGHT) then once the thing is dead or not a big REP boost for the winners and lots of credits and a much smaller rep boost and no credits for the losers make the cap ship battle only enterable when you have a full raid on both sides and when the fight is over the storyline updates and another event triggers......THATS PERSISTENCE

Kudos! Well said! Thats what I actually expected!

There does need to be some persistence. The conflict zones should change and be a lot more dynamic tbh. Maybe even take place around stations. I'd love to arrive at a station on rare occasions and there be a huge battle for control going on in unstable systems.

Really I wish FD would have concentrated on procedurally generated content like no mans sky rather than trying to be games master to a galaxy.

The problem with being games master to a galaxy is most people are not going to be in the relevant part of the galaxy where the stuff is happening.

The imagination argument always bothers me a bit. As fairly frequent roleplayer (D20 mostly) its not remotely your job as individuals to imagine everything. The campaign setting is 90% set for you. The lore is fixed before you even start. The history is inplace. "big events" are then handled by the DM.
Imagination comes into play only so far as your characters back-story and then your characters actions going forward.

If Frontier adds more story elements, it doesn't (or at least should not) remove your scope to roleplay *you* in the universe.

That said, there was a increase in news a bit recently, so I think (hope) Frontier is slowly building it up.

For my taste they just need too add more flavour related stuff, and possibly an in-game encyclopaedia that expands as you explore and scan stuff.
It doesn't seem much, but a little more backstory here and there can help everything seem more real. Also, Bonus; Something to read in SC :)

Very much true.
(unless, again, they at least put a few wormholes spread over the galaxy back to near the core systems)

Procedural storytelling is hard, but possible - they experimented with it with "The Outsider" which was cancelled.

The story in EDnis a warzone where you take a side and then pew pew until your daft. You can also get a mission "related to the story" which says to kill 10 ships. So you go and pew pew some more. Then rinse and repeat. It's quite a "story" ... But you may be 3 hours away from the system where the "story" is taking place so you are pretty much Not gonna participate in that story then other than reading some newsfeed. Granted they've added some more posts and now post almost every day even though it's just a fluff which is still makes it more fun than having one post a week.

ok so nearly 14 months later and ED has improved next to nothing, Power play was a fail and the planetary landings expansion is all well and good but is still basically fail. the infinite fur balls are the same. For those of you who don't see why I'm ranting here go back to Mr. Brabens original YouTube videos where he discusses his vision for what the game should be and then you will realise that none of this has happened. This game is a lifeless shell still and I don't think it will improve unless there are changes 1. shrink the universe I rarely meet other players in open as the universe is just to damn big make it smaller and bring players together 2. make pvp missions player A. must defend carrier player B. Must destroy it. 3. make these missions instanced with a clear conclusion nothing worse than going into a carrier battle where the fight never ends there is no winner no loser NO POINT (infinite furball).

CONCLUSION :- Broken game that has so much potential to be great but just isn't Maybe in another 2 years. (grab your popcorn I'm waiting for the famboys to pipe up and defend the terrible game design. Should be fun.)

Not a fanboy by any means but shouldnt you be addressing issues with examples of solutions? For example Thargoids are planned (if not already in via barnacles) what if they used the invasion to shrink the bubble down to increase player encounters.

Though it sounds more like you just want to watch the forums burn so scooch over and pass the popcorn

It's a shame, isn't it. And, unfortunately, I suspect WYSIWYG and there won't be big battles, a living universe and amazing new content. IMO FDev's self-lauded "Cobra engine" is likely to blame. It's likely severely limited and can only create games as complex as what we see now in Elite and FDev's simple roller coaster titles. Speculation, yes, but only FDev know the facts and I suspect if it could do more it would by now.

If it's not the game engine to blame then it's the talent (or lack of talent) working on the game. It's certainly not from needing more time or more funding; they've had enough resources and far more than smaller studios that have produced AAA titles.

Let's see if this thread get's necro'd in another 12 months! :)

Edit: regarding the video, sad isn't it when things that are mentioned even within the first minute haven't been implemented! What a farce this game has turned out to be compared to what was sold to the backers. DB should be ashamed when looking back at the Kickstarter promises and statements like those made in videos such as this.
