Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I have this vague idea that by getting allied with about the top 20-30 factions, it actually results in roughly 10% of the bubble being a great place to work in. That's a surprisingly good ratio, given how big it is!
I quite like that idea. I've only concentrated on a couple of systems, for various reasons, and never made any concerted effort to become widely allied. I'll have to consider doing more.

ED Discovery says I've clocked over 12 mil of exploration data; time to return home and turn it in for an allied rep. ...........

Have you not been mapping things then? I had the impression you were out for a while so 12MCr seems low. I am just now running an alt out for the 5Kylie qualification*, less than 100 jumps since dock and over 50MCr according to EDD - and I have only been mapping terraformables really and nothing in already discovered systems.

* I thought I'd explore the Dolphin's exploration mode - I do like this being able to start jump countdown whilst scooping, really speeds up the "transit" part of the trip.

Still avoiding that mind-numbing exobiology - so having fun exploring in Horizons (imagine - you can actually see where the planets are in supercruise, amazing ) - it is great to have a full crew on board - two each from STTOS and STTNG, one from Blake's 7 and a Doctor Who. HCS are having another sale so I am tempted to get a copy of Woof-Woof (sorry, "Legion" by Michael Dorn) however I think he might scare* the Parrot and possibly eat the Cat.

* Why I won't buy Mr Shouty - "Vasco" by Brian Blessed.

P.S. Still can't capture the voicepack voices when recording - ¯\(ツ)

There is a recently acquired bug in Odyssey where the little marker that indicates a planet vanishes while you are in cruise and only appears as the growing planet when you get within a few light seconds of it, for a fairly minor thing it is amazingly disconcerting.
Odd, I've never noticed this. What marker do you refer to? The Nav target? Something else?

In the Nav target or the smaller partial circle that indicated there was something to target there was a dot, smaller than the mouse widget, that indicated the planet that used to remain visible until the planet disc appeared and replaced it.
Haha, that's funny, because I recently asked here in this thread what that little dot was, because I suddenly noticed it and thought it was new in Odyssey. At the time you all told me it had always been there. And now it's gone? I haven't noticed either way lately. I'll have to keep an eye out for it, now.

Edit:
My memory is poor, as always. I wasn't talking about planets, but stations.

I'll still keep an eye out :)

I don't understand this. Can't you always see planets?

The HUD displays a white "dot" to indicate the location of a body; in Horizons as you approach the body the actual model / image appears in the middle of this white dot, as you get closer you can see the actual image grows until the white dot is no longer in view. In Odyssey that white dot blinks out of existence at a certain distance (I assume at the point where the actual model starts to be displayed - but you can't see it as it so small). It is just another of the stupidly annoying things in Odyssey (ships flying about in "teams" instead of wings is the one that really annoys me).

Easter holiday well spent!

My girl is deadly now.

Trying mode switch in Joystick Gremlin with sound, it works perfectly! So I have now 2 modes 1 for swapping buttons for fire groups and another for firing ALL gunz in a single button. I know there are fire groups to cycle through, but I want that to serve different purpose ( I only set 2 groups, 1 for weapons and 1 for scanners only, the scanner group serve as "master arm" switch, so I can switch to quickly after disengage).

With only 4 buttons on stick of my TM M16000, this seems significantly increased the combat efficiency. ( eg. its hard to press all 2 buttons for primary and secondary fire and hold down hat switch for vertical thrust a the same time on my stick)

While testing the modes, I get too excited and ran into a wing which i though it was 2 dbx only (1 deadly and 1 dangerous), it truned out to be a wing of 3 and there's an elite FDL in it~!!!! Holy F___

The hole amid ship must be punched out by the FDL's C4 plasma....

Ah, I understand now. It's not something I've ever even noticed. Haven't noticed the name change to Teams either. I guess I'm not easily bothered :p

Just thinking about the change from Wings to Teams, I guess it's because you can't really have a Wing of people on foot. It would be a strange term to use for that. I expect they wanted to have only one term for a group, so they chose Team.

Just about sums it up nicely - FD either are so useless that they can't call wings wings and teams teams or they just couldn't give a monkey's about anything other than their footy-shooty obsession.

Just think about it, all the stuff around the first-person shooter - yet here we have just one single model for concourses on planets - doesn't matter if it is a tiny port or a huge circular city - just the same concourse. While we are at it, how many on-foot missions don't (at least potentially) involve shooting - one section out of six, that's all. Talk about lazy.

P.S. Why does the explorer space suit have fittings for a rifle and a pistol?

P.P.S. Why does my current alt belong to a Drew Wager Private Group?
