Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Question: If you find something on another planet that looks exactly like what you just found on the planet before, is there a way to tell if it's the same thing or should you get three samples of it regardless?
Logging the plant is per-planet, so you'll get Exobiology cash and a first-logged bonus each time. You only get one Codex entry per sector, and a smaller confirmation amount per system, but that has nothing to do with Exobiology per se. Also the plant types come in color variations as well, which counts as a different plant.

So yeah, scan anything you find. It all adds up (plus you get to see cool stuffs).

Meanwhile, rocking the classic gear and checking out an odd mushroom-like plant:
One of us. One of us. One of us! :p

So only playing left handed for now and limiting my use of the joystick

Third moon in a row in this system with 6 biological signals on it.
Atmospheric as well? Those are some of the best...

BTW, a couple of things:
  1. If you dock at my carrier and then subsequently die, you'll respawn at my carrier instead of all the way back in the bubble.

  2. If you bookmark my carrier, once in that system, you can then find it wherever it is from then on out.

You can pick up one pretty cheap, give your arm/shoulder a chance to heal. I have a pretty high quality one and 99% of the bindings are in in the standard/generic settings, I just lay it on my right leg, lean back and play.
I have a digital gamepad which I'm not sure how well it will work for me with ED.

I may try an xbox controller and see how that goes with the analog sticks. I've never really liked game controllers but maybe this will be my epiphany/killer app... LOL

Things are going pretty well with the mouse so far flight wise, though left handed is a little bit of a struggle. They actually did a really good job of providing mouse support in the game. Lots of options...

ETA: Though space and ground combat will be completely out of the question until I have my right arm back...

Looks expensive
It's cheaper now than it used to be. I paid $119.00 for it a year and a half ago. You can find them for $99.00 these days.

a) I'm not left handed
Silly me. I figured you'd only be setting it up to play left handed if you were left handed.

The default settings in Elite for left handed mouse flight are backwards, so it's very difficult to fly. If you reverse the mouse axis controls and turn off the invert vertical axis it works much, much better and seems a lot more natural.

I was half joking, indeed $99 is what I saw at the link you sent. I got my Black Widow Elite for 50% off and paid $80.

Yeah, my right arm is out of commission for a while so I'm switching hands...

I've been tweaking the settings for the last three days in order to figure out how it all works and, more importantly, what works best for me...a joystick is much more intuitive but the mouse is becoming adequate, but I wouldn't want to fight anything left handed...at least not yet anyway.

What you have done is made it easier for active player factions to expand into your system - they don't need to retreat any non native factions to get in. If there are less than 7 factions in a system, the door is open for another faction to expand in.
Thats okay, I don’t view it as my system…I’m just using it to experiment with the BGS and learn as best I can. It’s incredibly quiet here and makes it quite easy to see, generally speaking, the effects of your actions.

I‘m close to achieving my initial goals but had thought about trying to cherry pick a nearby faction to fill the space created and expanding into another system…but then I’m concerned I’ll never leave this little segment of space. I‘m still surprised at quite how much I’ve enjoyed playing with the BGS, it just seemed so dry before I gave it a go.
