I'd like to find a pirate-free place though. Because, Zen when mining in peace
Well, as I'm playing it more on the slow side, just doing what I feel like doing at that moment, I think it would still make sense to make that 'stepping stone' to be a decent ship, as it will have to last some time. And as I don't have access to that FSD, yet, I need something to unlock it. So using upgrading this ship that will be dedicated to this role for some time seems to be the logical option to get where I want to.You are facing the issue that there is a big price gap between ASP X and the Krait MKII or Python that better fits your play style. The Feberal Dropship if you have the Federation Rank, or the Alliance Challenger if you have the extra credits, do seem to the stepping stones to the Krait/Python you need. Both are tanky and heavy with mediocre jump range, but good enough for local mission running. These ships don't have amazing shield strength, so are best fitted with a fast recharging bi-weave shield plus boosters so they recover quickly if damaged or dropped.
If engineering is on your mind, my approach would be to get into an end game medium ship like the Krait or Python before investing too much in engineering other than obtaining a a class 5 (only size this comes in) Engineered FSD V1 which will fit in all of the ships mentioned here.
I like your approach to the game here. I'm sure you're aware many tend to "grind" the game to make faster progress, and maybe miss the experience of flying early to middle game ships that are fun to fly.Well, as I'm playing it more on the slow side, just doing what I feel like doing at that moment, I think it would still make sense to make that 'stepping stone' to be a decent ship, as it will have to last some time. Right now, I only have Fed rank of midshipman, as I am working around the area of Suthe, right next to Elvira Martuuk's home system.
I intend to stay here until I have unlocked all I think I need, which may take some time as I have to get hold of all those precious materials needed to do that.
I have a system I discovered where I'm going to park my carrier when I get it. 69 planets with more hotspots than you can shake a stick at.I'd like to find a pirate-free place though. Because, Zen when mining in peace![]()
Unfortunately, mining that particular platinum hotspot was a part of my earn the last billion for a Fleet Carrier purchase in Colonia challenge, so had to put up with boosting away from pirates before I could mine. There is a mining guide to Colonia somewhere that lists hotspots of many kinds usually with in 500ly of Colonia. I've lost track of it, though.I'd like to find a pirate-free place though. Nice! I'll be using that too! Thanks!I always use this.
The top level of that tool lets you choose a bunch of options, too. It's a nice little tool.Nice! I'll be using that too! Thanks!
Interesting. I think I should log in briefly to check something. BRB.I like your approach to the game here. I'm sure you're aware many tend to "grind" the game to make faster progress, and maybe miss the experience of flying early to middle game ships that are fun to fly.
The Engineered FSD V1 is available in a station with a Human Technology Broker in exchange for materials.
18 Datamined Wake Exceptions*
26 Tellurium*
26 Electrochemical Arrays
28 Chemical Processors
The video below helps with finding materials efficiently. The items marked * above regrettably involve collecting the material, quitting the game and restarting to refresh the stock of material at that location to collect again. Use of material trader contacts at stations is also essential to trade in what you get for what you need. Hawkes Gaming is guilty of selling a lot of the grind tactics you are wisely avoiding, but this material collection video is helpful. Asp X is a great ship to run around in to get the parts for the Engineered FSD V1, but if doing this in a Dropship appeals to you, of course do that

Ok right so how come that looks like a quote?Eep. I broke into 600's on Inara. That's insane![]()
Well, only "at the location" - and even that is wrong for the datamined wakes. You can collect those anywhere ships high-wake, as long as you have a wake scanner equipped. Used to be that the best spots were Distribution centers in famine systems, but nowadays, by the time you actually found one of them, you can have scanned the wakes on two dozen busy stations and tourist beacons. The items marked * above regrettably involve collecting the material, quitting the game and restarting to refresh the stock of material at that location to collect again.
I'm assuming the needle Forrests are too far for anyone who has not engineered an FSD or got the preengineered one yet. Fleet Carriers do the round trip quite frequently, so that's an option. I have heard you need high 30s jump range to get through a low star density patch on the way there.Well, only "at the location" - and even that is wrong for the datamined wakes. For Tellurium, I'd look for a planet (in Horizons) that has both geological features and Tellurium - Ongkala 1 a a or Tripitaka 6 f a look promising - amd shoot the rocks off the vents. Yes, you can relog there, if you want to. Or you can just take off and fly to the next volcano. Or you can make the trip out to the needle forests and fill 'er up.
The trick is getting your very first units of Telerium to get your first Engineered FSD V1 when your 33ly Asp X takes an age to get to the crystal shards and I've heard you need high 30s jump range to get there at all.Tellurium is easy. It's in the same spot as all the others. I filled up the other day with 150 units in about 40 minutes.
Whoops. Left the window open and didn't refresh before posting...Interesting. I think I should log in briefly to check something. BRB.
Took a little longer as, amongst other, life happened.
I just checked the contents of my material bins. This is what I found:
12 Datamined Wake Exceptions
0 Tellurium
2 Electrochemical Arrays
28+ Chemical Processors
And I didn't have to relog to get the DWEs, either. At least not in the way that is suggested by those always-in-a-hurry-have-to-be-effective-and-optimized people... Just the normal way, between sessions. I got some as a misson reward, others by scanning other ships in supercruise and actually even some by scanning the wakes around my home base...
I thought I had even found some Tellurium in some metorite, but that must have been one of those pranks my brain sometimes presents me...
Almost. A lot of planets can host Tellurium - you can use EDDB to search for them. But, as Te is a rare element, it's hard to find (see SRV and wave scanner). But Geological and (at least in Horizons, Biological) features are guaranteed to give you at least one sample from every element that can be found on the respective planet. And in Horizons (as opposed to Odyssey), mapping the planet from space will give you the locations of the bio/geo POIs as targetable locations.Did I catch that right that planets with geological features have a chance to host some T.?
