Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hitting the pirate faction influence in one of my faction's systems has inevitably created a civil war. So I tried a ground conflict zone.
Chemical Complex or Garden Nursery?
I flew the Viper MKIV to the Chemical Complex having booked myself in at Frontline for the fight first - which I later realised was not neccessary.
It was dark, I joined opposition to the pirates (mistake number 1) and then tried to shoot up some ground troops with missiles... in the dark (mistake number 2).
To cut that story short, Viper got blown up. Does that mean the conflict zone was lost? Was it a low, medium of high? Cannot tell.
This was early this morning.
At lunch time I booked in at Frontline and went to the Garden Nursery which is in day light instead, and used the dropship. First time ever in a Vulture.
After much fumbling around in the conflict zone, apparently losing, then capturing "flags" while almost suffocating for want of a suit recharge point, the battle was eventually won. I put it down to my grade 3 Dominator suite, grade 2 Manticore Oppressor (that ran out of ammo and I fell back on a hand gun because I couldn't figure out how to get primary weapon 2 a laser rifle out) and my distant past as a Counter Strike and Battle Front 2 player.
After the battle I realised there were ammo crates dotted around, so I could have reloaded the Manticore. I also spent a few minutes trying to work out how to catch the dropship back or summon an Apex, and then I was suddenly magically back on the Vulture. Mmmm. Could have been a little more immersive there. Like put a marker on the radar for where the dropship is waiting to pick me up.

I still don't know if it was a low, medium or high conflict zone (doubt it was high) and I didn't notice any credit reward for winning. I just got 212K in combat bonds from Frontline when I got back there.

The FPS experience was fairly good, something I will probably do occasionally. It bothers a bit that the challenge in defeating opponents comes from them being able to "out bullet sponge" them rather than use tactics. You can do a great job of sneaking up behind an opponent whose attention is drawn by your team mates, only to not be rewarded with a quick kill because they can turn around and shoot back at you a lot, long before you get through their shields.

I'll do a ship based conflict zone this evening to make sure the civil war is won by my chosen side.

What do you buy for the CMDR who has everything?

The Fonticula SRV jack! Fix punctures and carry out maintenance in style!

No that is not the case - their system maps show me as the FD and FM tag.

BTW - it WAS my carrier.

Well today it decided to make me a liar. Sold a single system - got the notifications and bonuses. Sold a group of systems got some notifications and a (suspiciously sparse) set of bonuses (boni LOL ). Will have to keep a closer eyer on those.

So this 25% cut - does all of that go into my carrier balance and if not, why not?

I think I will aim for the Krait Mk II, as I wanted one of them, anyway. It can help me get the Python.
It's 128t as a laser miner vs. the Python's 192t, or one less passenger mission at Robigo Mines every approximately 10 to 12 minutes which means at the top earnings rate when allied with all factions you will earn roughly 18 million an hour less. So roughly 60 million vs roughly 80 million or more per hour on a good day with the Python. Not that you necessarily want to do Robigo runs.
Given that a wide variety of activities including mission running and combat seems to fit your game play style, the Krait MKII appears the right choice for you. It has a small jump range advantage over the Python too. If you wanted to increase hourly earnings as fast as possible, you'd hold out for the Python.

I forget if you've done this yet or not - If it was me at your stage of the game, I'd be using an Asp Explorer or Diamondback Explorer to hunt down materials for the Engineered FSD V1 and Guardian FSD booster to reduce the number of jumps you need to make when travelling in the future. The Engineered FSD V1 fits in the Kraits and Python.
Then I'd go after the crystal shards sites, a trip to Jelly Fish nebula 5000ly out and then the crash Thargoid ship in the Pleiades for Thargoid sensor fragments to unlock Prof Palin for thruster engineering. But of course that's my preferences.

If I was only allowed one ship, its this one:

That is a mistake.

It will take a Python a few hours to get you a Krait. It will take the Krait a couple of days at best to get you a Python.
Sure. But it would take me about a week or two more to get the money for the Python - and some more weeks for the equipment.

As most of my sessions are shorter than an hour, Robigo Mine runs do not really appeal to me. I started a data hauling loop this morning. I got about half way through when real life asked for my attendance. I might be able to finish it this evening.
Star Moth has a V1 FSD installed, she most likely will be the only one.
Another alternative is T-6 -> T-7 -> T-9, once in a T-9 you can earn loads of money by trucking and quickly buy more middle size ships.
The only form of trucking that appeals to me is the Delivery Service kind. Buying stuff to sell it somwhere else is a little too tedious for me. Checking where to sell the stuff I mined to get the most out of it is all I can stand in that regard.
I concur. :ROFLMAO:

Which one?
This one:

I'll actually make you an offer you can't refuse: Go mine anything. I mean literally anything. Bring it to my carrier, tell me what it is and I'll price that ore to where you can sell it to me for enough to go buy yourself a Python.

It's relatively simple. I'm allowed to pay 1000% the price of any ore. So you mine for me.

Let's say you're mining Platinum in your Keelback and you're getting 250,000 credits per ton and you haul in 64 tons per run. That would net you about 16 million credits. I can pay you somewhere around 550,000 per ton, so that same load turns into 35,200,000.

Two runs like that buys you the Python.

Two more runs like that outfits it to get you started mining.

It's that simple.

I also find more enjoyment in the journey, I guess, moreso than taking others' cookbook path to an end. For what it's worth. Keep at it CMDR TimberMcWolf

I think I was at least six or eight months in when I bought my third ship - a Dolphin, and began sightseeing tours! AND THE REST IS HISTORY.

What am I up to anyway. I have almost all my materials to go on a suit and gun engineering odyssey. Except the forms of plating and a few other of the tech section, still coming on those. 163 materials to go, mostly in tech

One round trip of Robigo Mines to Sirius Atmospherics Tourist beacon in Sothis will take you 12 minutes or less with practice. There will be interdictions and enemies of passengers to deal with early on. Once allied with all factions (take reputation rewards to start with) 15 million per round trip is possible in a Python. If you use the FSD V1 it is two jumps each way to complete. It is the best way for people with time limits to maje credits and gain grade 5 engineering materials. Biotech conductors, exquisite focus crystals and modified embedded Firmware.
It does get boring and it's a 550+ly trek to get to Robigo.
