Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It's gotta be said, if you're going to make a spaceship sound like a vintage aircraft with a piston engine, THIS is how you do it:
Yeah. The "posterboy" of piston airplane engines...
I've been next to one when they do this - it's... interesting.
Must be quite impressive to be in the vicinity during a race of two or more of them...

Certainly is.
My father was stationed at the RAF base that was and still is the home of the Battle of Britain flight in the late 70s, so I got to hear a Lancaster plus a pair of spitfires (maybe one of them might have been a Hurrican) go overhead quite often
It never gets old...

Right, the MK2. But this was not the first Rolls Royce engine to be featured in this airframe...

During early development, they were powered by Rolls Royce Goshawk engines, which proved to be not powerful enough to be up to the task.
I had forgotten about the Goshawk. Turns out there was also the pressurised MkVI sixty odd built with Merlins.

Every year at Piedmont Airport (a small airport about 30 miles from here) they have a vintage aircraft air show.

A few years back I'm sitting here watching the news and the ground starts to shake. I could hear a roar so I went out on the back deck to see what was coming.

It was two Lancaster bombers, flying at about 1200 feet, escorted by two Mustangs and two Spitfires. I could feel my chest shaking as they went by. It was awesome.

Here's a first for me: A water world with mineable rings:

Confusing results for today's combat efforts. Two medium ship based conflict zones as I didn't have time for a high intensity, and a ground conflict zone. What is confusing is my combat rank went up 2% through dangerous and my mercenary rank stood still at 14% through defenceless. Maybe a quirk of updates coming through to Inara 🤔
Payout for the ground conflict zone was in the region of 400K credits.
The fun part was I got interdicted coming away from the ground conflict zone in my Viper MKIV. by a Challenger. Sporting a rapid fire medium multi cannon with indendiary rounds and another corrosive plus the two small dumb fire missile launchers with overload munitions the Challenger went boom with only 4% of 296MJ shields lost on the Viper MKIV. You know, the slow not very agile one. OK so it's engineered grade 5 dirty drives plus drag, but the Challenger never got to bring it's guns to bear as this Viper is plenty small, fast and agile enough to run rings around it. Granted the Challenger was only 'competant'.
I though it would be a closer fight than that.

It seems Inara or likely the data source it pulls from lags behind reality a bit. This is understandable from a technical point of view My mercenary rank jumped to 60% in defenceless today and I have not done another ground CZ since yesterday.

I've noticed that a great deal of the time, Elite Dangerous itself doesn't update until you log out and back in again. Until that happens (ED updates your panel in game), it's never put into the API so it will never update.

Oh, if anyone comes across a medium CZ that's in daylight, could they let me know? :D
It's in day light and I don't think it is low because it's takes me half hour to win, and I don't think it's high because I can win. I have not figured out how to tell what type it is. It's Today will be the last day.
Just do me a favour and fight for the democrats side otherwise you are undoing my "work" https://inara.cz/elite/station/313119/

If you pick up the CZ from the Frotline Solutions bod, they will show the "level"

Just to break up the non-stop war mongering, I've switched to a little stint of exploration. Just outside the bubble, nothing special, just meandering.

Anyway, I came across something that you interpid explorers may well have already seen - but they're new to me: rogue signal sources.

When you FSS then, they show up fine, but you can't target them or find them on the nav panel. Also, the FSS starts to get a bit funky and garbled:

Looks like I'll be paying a revisit to the system come Novermber end ;)

That's the Stargoids heading our way. AFAIK, there are eight of them.
