Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Oh and by the way, even when I'm on a long route I still honk every system I arrive at, map anything that's valuable and will land at any planets or moons with selections of exobiology or geological. If I didn't do all that I'd get to where I was going a lot quicker but without really achieving much. :geek:

I don't plot routes at all. I open the map and look at the stars immediately around me. I have them flagged for which one's I've visited (in teal) and which ones I haven't (in red). Then I start highlighting red stars and looking for a F, G, K or A and jump to it when I find one.

I didn't know you could colour them by whether you've visited or not, that's excellent! I will turn that on when I get back in game, see what I can find around the Cat's Paw 😸

That's not really the point. The point is that each jump you make, you're jumping over about 40 systems worth exploring.
Aye I know, but I have been selecting potentially interesting systems with single jumps since I arrived in Temple. If I jumped to every system in range whether long or short jumps (the range on my Asp X is just over 53 LY) I would hardly have got out of the bubble by now. For me its a balance between being selective and eventually getting to where I'm heading.

Yeah, me too. It always sounded like it was farting, to me. I couldn't stand it. Has it been improved? I haven't flown an Asp EX in ages.
I was quite happy flying the Asp X to Colonia exploring on the way with my alt account when I went out there for the engineer unlocks and to pin grade 5 light weight on life support and grade 4 specialised for shield cell bank.
The thruster noise is the same, just far more muted to my ear these days.
Worth giving one a try again.

Does that work in 3.8, too?
Not that I could find. I looked all through the map menus and couldn't find the setting for it.

In Odyssey, it's right here:

Have to love those system connectors.
I especially loved them earlier in the year when I was trying to get to Far Oasis and Hidden Abyssinial Treasures in the Abyss "south west" of Beagle Point... and back out again. Synthesise level 3 FSD injection to multiple the 70+ly jump range by 3. Look hard for the faint blue lines. See 2 of them. One goes back the way you came, one goes somewhere at least slightly in the direction you want to be going.
It's an experience every Elite Dangerous explorer should have, and many have. I found only one previously unexplored systems while in the Abyss, and every single star was scoopable.
