Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Too many commanders now that even my alts will have their own alt.

Biggest worry is that we won't be able to farm materials in "legacy" for use in "live".

I just hope that they fix the stupid planet HUD graphic (the dot) vanishing before the planet is visible - that really annoys me and is the main reason I prefer 3.8 for non-foot stuff.

I am not entirely sure, but to me, it sounded like they would change something there, so Odysey players are able to switch between ED:H 4.0 and ED:O from their main menu.
Not sure about that. I've not heard anything about it. I'm just basing it on their past setup.

If that turns out to be the case then what's the point of keeping 3.8 at all? It wouldn't make any sense at all.

"With Update 14, Odyssey players will have the option to select either Horizons or Odyssey mode within Live Mode so that playing together remains possible."

So yes, Odyssey owners will get the long demanded option to launch in Horizons 4.0 mode.

OK - You're right! Here it is:

With Update 14, Odyssey players will have the option to select either Horizons or Odyssey mode within Live Mode so that playing together remains possible.

So what they're doing is effectively killing 3.8. When the patch drops, you'll get a carbon copy of everything in Odyssey and 3,.8 (or 4.0 and 3.8 if you don't have Odyssey).

After that, anything you do in 3.8 stays in 3.8. IT DOES NOT COME BACK WITH YOU TO 4.0 or Odyssey.

So that's it, folks. No more easy street on all those signal markers and logging in and out. It's all Odyssey from here on out.

Bruce also confimed that if Horizons players want to instance with Odyssey owners, it will only happen in Horizons 4.0 mode. No cross-instancing between H4.0 and Odyssey.

I've never seen that happen.

Never seen that happen.

Never seen that happen.

Well it happens every time you are travelling in supercruise - the HUD displays a dot to represent the planet's position then in Horizons the actual body is displayed over it so that the dot is obscured when the planet is bigger than the dot. In Odyssey the dot suddenly is displaced off to one side or other presumanbly as the body starts to be drawn - at first it is too small to see until you get close enough. It really is stupidly annoying and if you have not noticed it then you can not be paying attention. ;)

That's because it's never been visible in Odyssey, so you'll only miss it if you're used to Horizons. It bugged me for a while. Now I don't notice anymore.

That is not quite true - in Odyssey the HUD does draw the "dot" when you are far away from the planet - that "dot" then moves to some place off to the side at a certain distance - determined by the size of the planet so I suppose it is when the game starts to actually paint the pixels of that planet. So from that "draw distance" inwards you see nothing inside the nav marker reticle until the actual model of the planet becomes large / bright enough for you to see.

It still bugs me A LOT .... ;)

I have of course noticed the complete lack of the dot or sometimes that it vanishes after being there, I have never noticed it move to the side. However that could well be due to its being just over two years since my appointment with the opticians for my next two yearly eye test was due so small stuff can get lost. New pairs. of specs for both seeing and playing the game are due to be collected on Friday.

(I heard rumours that fighting with FA on is harder than with it turned off...)
Not sure I believe FA off all the time is easier. There are things you can do with how you set up controllers, especially mice, that makes it easier. If I fly the AX combat Chieftain with fixed Gauss cannons I have to switch mouse left - right to yaw control to make it work.
Personally I use FA off in specific circumstances, like making a faster turn. Fighting a Thargoid Interceptor and trying to deal with the swarm is an FA off fly backwards and aim a fixed mount flak launcher round at it. I'm useless at doing this....

The only thing I use FA off for is planetary landings in tricky positions or higher gravities.

Which is about what we all thought it would be: they're separating the player base into those who paid for Odyssey and those who didn't.
I've got two accounts that have Odyssey (one straight from FDev, one from Epic) and two that don't (one Steam, one Epic - the latter bought for me by a friend and on my ex's Steam account, so will be the Devil's own job to upgrade it to Odyssey!)... Would it be simpler to just get everything changed to Odyssey? I hardly ever use Horizons now.
