Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've been doing other stuffs the past couple days.

And also Sniper Elite 5's new mission. I blew up an aircraft carrier. I'm awesome.

These are two of the six bios to be found on this planet... Forgot to take pictures of the others, though.
The other bios were Cactoida Lapis, Frutexa Metallicum, Tussock Cultro.
Wait, that are only five... I think #6 was Fungoida Setisis, but I'll have to go ingame to look that up, later. And check if I actually have them scanned, yet.
Interestingly, while I was roaming around, looking for those plants and stuff, I scanned something with the comp scanner from afar and got a 2.5k Cr codex reward claim, but have no clue what I had scanned there...
During the session if you go to the Codex new stuff is often marked with an ! otherwise you will just have to checked the confirmed dates and locations to see what it was.

The DCS summer sale was on, so I picked up the F14 Tomcat. It is hard to fly. It's even harder to land.

They say that any landing you can walk away from is a good one. In that case, mission accomplished.

I would keep clear of the ground crew for a while as they might be a wee bit put out with you.

You will definitely need to keep it closer to the centre line for a deck landing.

While I was aware of that, the issue is that if I have already found the specific species on another planet in the region, all the codex shows is this first encounter. I had this with the Stratum Tectonitas, but in that case, I had a picture as proof that I also found this here.
The list from my post #34,680 is correct, the missing bio is indeed some Fungoida. Not sure if it is Setisis, though.
As this causes Janice* to lose some sleep, I will make another attempt to find this elusive species...

*: Timber is just a nickname, Janice Mc Wolf is my commander's real name.

If you run EDDiscovery (the game does not need to be running at the same time), it will read your journals and there is an Organics Scan window that shows all your scans, where and when, and the base price.

Guess I'll have to give it another try... Keep your fingers crossed the this time, the cooperation will be better...

According to this, I haven't found the Fungoida yet... Do they have any preferences, regarding where they grow?

So my trip towards the Traikeou AA-A H2 Nebula, which began about a month ago, ended up in meandering about the central area of the Inner Orion Spur (ie: still more or less here at the "unfashionable end of the Western Spiral Arm of the Galaxy"*), discovering and scanning stuff and heading anywhere that looked interesting... sometimes long term plans are less important than "hmm... what do we really feel like doing today?" 😏

Anyway, despite the planned destination not (yet) being reached due to concerns about Tritium stock running low (and the prospect of a possible onward journey into the Inner Scutum-Centaurus Arm ending up with being stranded and having to mine Tritium til my eyes bleed), it's been quite a pleasantly hapless / reasonably aimless journey of discovery... :)

*"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea..."

Yeah, those can be hard to locate. They like to grow in mountainous terrain.

I find them usually in little hollows near the tops of low mountain ranges, or hidden on the sides of rolling hills.

I have also found them out on the plains, but only rarely.

They are often spread apart, so locating 3 samples can take some time.

Cool pics. I also try to take a screenshot of my first footfalls. I don't have any where I'm up in the sky looking down, though! :)

Thanks again :)

…yep indeed, aside from my slightly odd taste in combat apparel, enhanced jump on an Artemis is useful for pics like these, in addition to scrambling up cliffs & crater walls, or hunting Tussock with an Executioner ;]

I think I had seen one patch once, but as I washunting fpr a different plant, I drove on and forgot about it...
Looking at the way this planet rolls*, this means that I will have to be doing a lot of hopping from blue patch to blue patch, following the sun...

*: On this planet, you land on the day side, drive around in your SRV for a while, like 15-30 minutes (depending on how close you got to the morning side, and have your lights switching on...
By the time you're back at the ship, the sun is as good as gone.

Yes, but the preference depends on the variety.

Note spellings are on random today.
Setesis likes to be near or at the top of precipitous ridges occasionally with a landable spot not too far away.
Gellata tends to favour fairly smooth rolling terrain broken up by deep gullies often with higher ground all around.

The other two I haven’t found often enough to have their usual preferred terrain in my mind.

The problem with learning where you are going to find them can bite you as occasionally they show up on the wrong sort of terrain where you knew better than to bother with.

I love this one, especially on low gravity planets. It's just a lot of fun.
No doubt about that...

I just checked the ship engineers via EDDiscovery... I almost got all engineers that have interesting to me upgrades available.
I also checked the on-foot engineers and found three that provide upgrades I would like to have. Tough there are a few things that keep me from visiting them. The elephant in the room would be the requirements to even get an invitation. And from what I gleaned from the conversations in this thread, getting the necessary materials isn't as straight-forward as getting ship mats... (I am not talking about the difficulties one might encounter to find a certain mat - that issue was part of the game long before the first commander ever set foot in a concours or on a planet...)

Keep in mind that with a bit of persistence you can get any on foot item engineered to G2 or G3 and with up to two specials fitted from the Pioneer Supplies shops, they get new stock of upgraded items every Thursday, I myself have never done any engineering for the on foot stuff mostly because of this.

When I was seriously chasing after stuff I would park up in a quiet system with lots of stations then visit them all the next day.

Yeah, I guess it depends quite a lot on the overall climate on the planet. If it is favorable for the plant, you might find them all over the place, while on other planets, you might only find it in secluded spaces.
