Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've decided to take out the missile turrets & loaded up on torps and a couple of abrasion blasters....which seem to have had no effect at all.Manged to get hold of a couple of mining lasers,so i'll see if they can do the trick. And some mines to drop down the hole.

I don't understand what you're doing. Can you explain because it looks fun ! :)
Land into another ship and stick there ? and then secretly see everything it does ?

Yeah, sorry,it doesn't work like that. It was just floating in space,no power or signs of life.I come across ships like this occasionally, usually take a picture for size comparison.I'm not responsible for the state they're in,i hasten to add.Just passing by and took the photo opportunity. I've always thought it'd be cool to piggyback another ship, but we'll just have to wait for carriers for that to become a reality.
There's plenty to do in the game that doesn't involve pew,for those like me who choose not to.
Having said which, i'm quite enoying the situation in carcosa atm, it gives me the chance to see what the bang bang game is all about and to gain rudimentary experience in usage of ordnance, but only against station defenses/targets.
I'm having trouble taking out the turrets though.Iv'e tried mining lasers(good for capacitors) ,torps, mines and abrasion blasters(to no avail),so i suppose i just have to keep moving up the list till i find something that works. :giggle:

So you're messing with an abandonned big ship which is severely damaged but still able to fire at you ?
Do I get it right ?

Not quite.I'm exploring the unauthorised facility at or near carcosa Cd2 but it has automated turrets which are disturbing my passage. The ship i am perched on is just a byproduct of the ongoing hostilities in the system somewhere between the station and Amber.

P.s.Yours is purrrrtier.

Ok this is funny. I shoulda kept the link, but I saw a post from someone in another thread. They were referring to THIS thread, saying how they had been reading it. They said it "seemed to be designed for newbies." And he was amazed how all of us "newbies" enjoyed the game, and weren't too concerned with fast progress.

I guess I'll just stay a newbie forever, then, since apparently I'm still one after thousands of hours of play. As long as I'm having fun, it's all good! :p

Yeah, that was me. I went back to page 1 of this thread and started reading it all. Somewhere (between pages 20 & 30 possibly), someone else actually says they thought it was a thread for for newbs. I wish I had the link. I’m not going back through it.

So, having played this game for over a year and still considering myself a newbie, I thought I'd make a "to do" list. If there's anymore suggestions, I'll gladly add them to it.

  • Splody mining
  • Blaster mining
  • Sub surface mining
  • CZ's
  • Assassination/massacre missions
  • Mining missions
  • Passengers of all kinds
  • CQC
  • CG's
  • PvP (this will never happen)
  • Canyon running
  • Buckeyball (I'm a little unclear on this)
  • Anything Guardian related
  • Neutron highway
  • Travel a vast distance (like Sag A* or Hutton)
  • Left the bubble (although I did do 500ly for Palin once)
  • Illegal cargo running
  • Thargoid fights
  • Data scan missions
  • Explo Elite
  • Combat Elite
  • King in the Empire
  • All engineers (have most though)
  • Unlocked all permit systems (have some though)
  • Ally with the Alliance
  • One of every ship (have 25 so far)
  • Written salt on the boards
Stuff I have crossed off - I think this is all. Doesn't look like much. Hmm.

  • Laser mining
  • Trading (pure hauling)
  • Exploration in all its forms
  • Hauling missions (deliver, source and return)
  • Data missions
  • RESs (nearly always high ones)
  • Planetry resource gathering
  • Emission resource gathering
  • Helped a structure defend itself
  • Trade Elite
ETA - in other online games I've played, I often see complaints about how there's nothing to do and "I'm bored" type comments. Methinks, with all the above, one would have to have played A Lot to become bored here :D

Well here's something I didn't realise.

Farming for meta alloys - won't tell you where just in case it gets nerfed, so PM me if you want the location, and after 3 hours scanning a system and visiting about a dozen "dead" barnacle sites over three dwarf planets I finally found a "ripe" one that contained 4 meta alloys. By this time I'd had enough of flying inverted over barnacle sites to see if they were alive or not and after collecting and transferring the four that I had found to the ship, I logged off and forgot all about it.
Anyway, long story short, logged back in this evening to find myself still parked up at the barny farm and before taking off noticed that the spikes had all regrown and there were another 4 meta alloys sprouting from the tall spikes. Happy days!
That was the extent of my play today. 6 minutes, 4 meta alloys, total of 14 now in ship.
Same again tomorrow, needless to say....and the next few days until I have the 32 I need to advance my AX build.

anymore suggestions

Pretty comprehensive list, but there's a few things I've done that I highly recommend:
  • Circumnavigate a small moon (or a big one) in the SRV.
  • Visit the INARA bases and read the stories.
  • Visit crashed ship sites and read the stories.
  • Visit the 'lost' generation ships and read the stories.

I haven't done all of the last three, but I have done some of each and they have been some of the best, most memorable occasions in the game, for me.

I’m one week away from obtaining pack hounds so I’m hanging around the bubble a bit. I have been to Sag A before and often venture out but I had never sussed out how to document things like geysers (wasn’t interested until this week). I just found this out yesterday.

So I purchased the Dolphin and kitted it out for exploring. That is a nice little ship. Not the largest jump range but ample. I think it might replace my DBX. Great manoeuvrability and ample slots.

I’ll probably spend a week or 2 in the bubble with my pack hounds then just go out for a few months, fill my codex up. For my trip to Sag A I started in the bubble (obvs) headed up to 3 o’clock to traverse a few sectors then flew into Sag A from there. This time I may do a 3/4 anti clockwise trip around the edge(ish) to Colonia.

Tyres, if you head to Sag A*, then you could either go or return with a visit to Jaques in Colonia on the route, just to cross another milestone off.

There is quite a good number of tourist sites between the bubble and colonia too that ppl can add to the to do list, those are permantly added to your codex, have add a few already. :)
If one goes for an approach of trying to do all of then, the ones outside and inside the bubble, lets just say next year you will probrably will still be doing that task... :)

Also on that to do list:

Visit, find, scan alien life out there in the void, there is alot of them to do and add to the codex.

As u stated there is plenty to do in this game to keep ones entertained, the ones that get bored are the ones that dont realize there is alot more to do or are a one trick poney and can only play in one of the ways u can...
