Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Yep, gotta watch out for these - they can be really sneaky… :D

Yesterday's hot news...

I really wish they'd start imaging other planets atmosphere's with the James Webb, when they pass in front of their star they'll be able to see it's composition by the light shining through it. I guess they have too much other, more important tasks for it, looking forward to when they start in on ELW candidates.

Maybe you need to read a bit more...

I thought that planet was akin to Titan (and much larger), but with a Hydrogen rich atmosphere. I meant use it consistently to look at rocky planets. Aren't those red dwarfs prone to unstable magnetic fields and have violent CME's and an ELW would need a magnetic field much more powerful than ours just to keep it's atmo from bleeding off?

Is it just me, or does it "feel" rather quiet in the Elite universe?

Posts from FDev seem a little sporadic since Sally moved on and the forums in general feel relatively quiet.

It may just be me of course, but I have a nagging feeling of a "calm before the storm" time - as if something major is coming.

Perhaps I just need a cup of tea and a lie down :D

Although I think the idea of a cup of tea and a nap sounds good in my ears, I have to agree with you. It feels quite calm, at the moment.

FDev's community management might still be sorting itself out after Sally left, also quite busy with the Warhammer stuff, I guess...
Some of the more steadily frequented threads on this forum I watch seem to have slowed down a bit, too.
And although I have spent my time in open, recently, I haven't seen many other players besides my fwllow racers of the BRC...

It very nearly got a little quieter overnight.

I woke up in the early hours of the morning and thought I smelled something, scorching plastic maybe.

When I got downstairs following the smoke I found a small electrically caused fire which after unplugging the culprit I put out with a spray of water.

I then spent some time getting warmly dressed, opening doors and windows, resetting a circuit breaker and plugging the fridge and freezer not an extension cable. Then settled down in a chair reading and waiting for the smoke to clear more.

Oh and waiting for the CO alarm to reset, it had started to go off after I had extinguished the fire, I suppose I need to get a smoke alarm as well.

The bad news is I am going to have to do some redecorating, the good news is heavy smoke seems great at getting rid of those hard to reach cobwebs from really high ceilings.

Jens Erik has also left from the community management team.

FDEV announced a 20% manpower reduction so there is redundancy consultation underway. So not surprised that things are a bit "subdued".

Cmdr. Wolfzx12r suffers from a condition that make communicating very hard for him. So his posts don't always make it through, but the sentiment is very clear in this one :)

Glad you're safe.
