Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Is it just me, or does it "feel" rather quiet in the Elite universe?

Posts from FDev seem a little sporadic since Sally moved on and the forums in general feel relatively quiet.

It may just be me of course, but I have a nagging feeling of a "calm before the storm" time - as if something major is coming.

Perhaps I just need a cup of tea and a lie down :D
I am currently taking a trip to reach at least 5000 Ly, because i felt like it (i was a bit tired of the Thargoid stuff) and to please Professor Palin.
Now at 4500ish Ly, exploring, getting first footfalls, and scanning plants.

It very nearly got a little quieter overnight.

I woke up in the early hours of the morning and thought I smelled something, scorching plastic maybe.

When I got downstairs following the smoke I found a small electrically caused fire which after unplugging the culprit I put out with a spray of water.

I then spent some time getting warmly dressed, opening doors and windows, resetting a circuit breaker and plugging the fridge and freezer not an extension cable. Then settled down in a chair reading and waiting for the smoke to clear more.

Oh and waiting for the CO alarm to reset, it had started to go off after I had extinguished the fire, I suppose I need to get a smoke alarm as well.

The bad news is I am going to have to do some redecorating, the good news is heavy smoke seems great at getting rid of those hard to reach cobwebs from really high ceilings.
Glad your okay, no smoke alarm is really winging it, you got very lucky. Someone is watching out for you not to mention an excellent sense of smell.

Yes but until fairly recently heating and some of the cooking were done using solid fuel stoves etc so smoke alarms would be very prone to going off erroneously. Still now the horse has bolted a pair have been ordered for delivery tomorrow.

The Orb: Thargoid worshippers long before it was fashionable!

Still an amazing album after thirty years. (Yeah, feeling my age now...)

Yep, it is called The British Isles.

My Grandad built the house in 1912 when he worked for a builder, before he had his own building business. You can still see where some of the gas lights used to be.
That's just to cool, having generations of your family living in the same home. In the mountains where I grew up, most of the cabins were "grandfathered" in, no building codes 120 years ago and many are still standing. No foundations, just flat rocks as piers and 4x4's for underpinning (cribbing).

One more day of work then I can focus some more on shooting some enemies.

I think I'll buy a dashboard cactus for my viper before this sale ends .. and give it another go this weekend .. try to find its personality. Or else I'm gonna retire it and move the cactus into its replacement! Oh lordy lordy it looks prickly. I just sealed the deal with my clicking finger

That is soooo darling, you're a hipster trend setter :)

It feels a lot quicker to gain progress in ship combat rank by nuking scavs from orbit than it does by actually fighting other ships. Methinks there may be an anomaly here.

Something odd about all this indeed - while my mercenary rank (Deadeye towards Elite) has been creeping along almost imperceptibly despite playing quite a few successful high cz’s, combat rank seems to keep moving at almost double the pace (despite this being the presumably more demanding road from Elite I to II) …also completed 5 spire contamination missions in the last week or two - intrigued to know how points are apportioned here? 🤓
