Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm jumping the carrier back to the bubble. I want to finally get a couple SCO drives, and possibly some new ships. On the way, if I happen to land in an undiscovered system I'm taking the time to scan it.

I ran across this one just now -- 2 water worlds and an HMC, 2 of them terraformable.

In the old days I would have considered this quite a haul, but today I was like "I made more scanning that one Bacterium yesterday."

Haha, how times have changed, eh?

The one water world was...brownish. I wouldn't drink that water, for sure.

These rewards do seem a bit meagre compared to exobio payouts - iirc they were increased for a brief time, sometime early in the war saga, but reverted soon after...

...i've been out to Colonia and beyond, 35KLY from Sol, the furthest i've been in the game - now wondering whether i should hop back towards Colonia & try to find a carrier heading for Sol in time for the imminent "festivities" ...or just stay out here :)

That's two systems in a row where I've seen an NPC stuck under a station letterbox along with there being a small queue on the inside. Weird.

The second station in V886 Centauri had an Asp under the entrance and one inside, which I was fortunately able to push past without getting a fine. Unfortunately for the player Beluga, their ship suffered a worse fate. I assume he was shot by station security on the inside but you wonder why they wouldn't do that to NPC's as well. The whole issue would be a game wrecking bug if it happened a lot.

The rescue ship was also busy so I had to button mash the docking request. Not that I was taking Sol passengers there. Centauri was just the final destination after doing some mission spam from Shinrarta.

Yeah, it's pretty interesting. I can see it on my FSS, and I'm 2500 LY from SOL at the moment. I wonder what the max visible distance is?

Very far I think. The first invasions caught me somewhere waaaay out in the black, getting multiple blips on my scanner.

Remembering that 2500ly used to be like... 35-40 minutes of jumps back when the witchspace times were a bit shorter, I wouldn't be shocked if I was 5-10k out.

It was enough to come home for then, and it's enough to stay home for now 😸 New Mandalay is engineered and ready, but I'm glad I listened to the force and didn't immediately start jumping out! Genuinely excited to see what happens in Sol over the next few weeks. Not been so invested in the game since... probably like 2021 when I was down with covid and wasn't allowed to leave the house 😹

Three Kraits stuck at the entrance. This time I noticed they actually get sucked onto the grill as they approach.

I've reported it anyway. Risking getting blocked inside a station every time you launch isn't exactly fun.

Yep, and I'm finding it a little irritating in that I keep thinking I ought zoom in oi it :D Get's me on every single system

Yeah, same here. It's a strong signal so I keep thinking it's a planet. 8-o

Maybe it's a yard sale. 🤔

42!? But that's the Answer! How could you...
The question must be How much blood do I have on my hands?

I think I might be on an interstellar criminal court arrest list for crimes against humanity.

Station services in the system employs:
  • An administrative contact
  • A combat bond contact
  • A black market contact
  • A Universal Cartographics contact
  • A Frontline Solutions rep
  • An Apex rep
  • A bartender
  • A Pioneer Supplies proprietor
  • A Power contact.
  • 4-5 CAP pilots in the air at any given time, suggesting 3 times as many (assuming 8-hour shifts.)
So basically half of the system work in the station and I've killed the other half at least ten times each.

Well, I made it back to the bubble ok.

Then I made a sudden decision to join in on the Sol defense, so I dragged out my AX Challenger, which I used previously to fight around the planetary bases. I can kill Scouts with it, and it's fast enough to get away from most Thargs.

I haven't flown any combat in forever, it seems, so I was rusty as heck. But I didn't lose my cool (and didn't get blown up, either).

I managed to kill some scouts and join in on a couple of Interceptors.

I earned a few combat bonds for my efforts, and now I can say I actually participated, even if only in a small way.

The action was fast and furious, I will say. :)

Man, that was a bad time and place to try rescue missions for the first time. As I was about to reach Sol I was dragged out of witchspace and annihilated while fiddling with new fire groups (tip: do that before you jump), then on the next attempt I was interdicted for the fourth time as I was literally a second away from leaving supercruise at Galileo. Rebuy #2.

Foooortunately, I was in my shiny brand new Type 8 and I deliberately decided not to max it out for the experiment. I really just added a 5A sco drive with a little engineering. Besides spamming in some ECMs and cargo/passenger modules. Just a 1.9M rebuy.

I'll give it another try before giving surrounding systems a go. I'm just going back to Shinrarta so I can tank the ship a little. Adding a little hull and better shields might give me a chance. Though I should probably consider upgrading the thrusters so I can put more distance between me and the xeno death squads while I wait to jump. Overall, I was actually a little surprised by how maneuverable the Type 8 felt when I left the station.

It was also fortunate that I simply left the hanger in Shinrarta rather than go straight to launch. I was able to wait for a couple of NPCs to get blown up by station security for loitering. Taking that screenshot may have saved me a rubbish first rebuy.

It's a concentrated signal, according to my FSS. Quite a bit outside the normal signal range for planets...
It is but the FSS seemed to be picking it up even though I was way over to the right of the radar. I kept being duped into sliding all the way left just to realise I'd been tricked again.
