Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I dare say, that Meredith is looking mighty sharp this evening! 🥳

With space legs I'm sure you would find all sorts of interesting stuff, people, aliens and things in there...

I found 2 in about 10 minutes, plus I found one last night so it was 3 in a little over 12 hours
That's good going (y). I bagged one tonight just to keep my average up - 'average' being about one every 300 jumps.

I'm now in Odin's Hold for the first time. Cool name, but largely uninteresting. Slowly heading towards galactic centre in search of the ever-elusive tubeworm.

I've moved my thruster bindings from the stick HAT to the throttle HAT, to have my right thumb available for secondary fire and pips during combat. Remarkable to notice how difficult it is to reprogram ones muscle memory. The landings are rough now! :D

Edit: I have a love/hate relationship to the FDL. Hate because I can't handle it. Love because it look's like my favorite train from my childhood:

Still scanning HGEs, until 'stuff' is fixed.
Started learning French from a young lady, she speaks very fast though.
So far I have learned 'Chargement FSD', which means FSD charging I think.

(I've been reading Pratchett again, realised I'm sounding a bit Carrot.).
I would have expected this 'Chargement d'entraînement d'amitié'.

There are worse characters to sound like than Carrot Ironfoundersson even in Pratchet.

Went out to unlock Zacariah Nemo. First I had to become friends with the Party of Yoru, which were rather stingy with their Rep. After flying a couple of data missions with little progress I went to another nearby station where the party was present, and picked up a load of data retrieval missions. That worked, but there was a NPC that kept interdicting me. I was in my mining Python and the only hardpoints I had brought were two std frags that I needed Zac to fix. First interdiction I avoided, but since the NPC kept following me from system to system I decided to kill him. Easier said than done with non-engineered frags and a minute shield. Great fight that lasted for what seemed a very long time. When I finally blasted him, I had no shield left and almost no hull.

After the missions I went to Xihe to buy XIHE BIOMORPHIC COMPANIONS, whatever that might be. Anyhows that was what Zac wanted. Now I'm at his station realizing that I need a gazillion mats, so off to the traders it is :)

Btw. Xihe has a nice ringed brown dwarf wiith some hot spots. Might have to go and try those later:

Mr. Nemo is a pain in the rear, but yeah... I only fly with frags on any of my mission-runners as they're just so efficient at dealing with interdicting ships. A full frag Krait/Python is really something - ships just crumple...

High capacity or overcharged would be my recommended mods, with your choice of special depending on your specific needs.

God I love frags...
Yes, those frags have become my weapon of choice as well. Right now I use them on a Vulture for Haz Res or CNB fun. The ones I have are overcharged (G3) screening shell, and I also have a set that are double shot screening shell. The ones I'm having made right now will be rapid fire screening shell, with a reload time of less than a second! You have to find a Haz res near to a station when using double shot, since you run out of ammo very quickly, and i guess it's the same with rapid fire. Still, as you pointed out, they are bloody evil, and gives you that "Oh yeahr? Well have some of this then!" feeling.

I'm still in the pilot federation area. I'm soon ready to leave it and head out in the "real" world. However, I would like to discover (FSS/DSS) the area before I leave. Checking on Inara it seems like there is no DSS in the permit area, which begs to question: Can I enter the area afteward (without docking) to map the planets? I would have thought not but some of the planets sais "first mapped by".

Yep that sounds strange. To the best of my knowledge it's like a night club. Once you leave you can't get back in. I'm not 100% certain though.

Yes, mapping the starting area requires planning. You only get the DSS outside, so you need to earn the money without gaining rank first. Ignore missions, and collect combat bonds in a HiRes, while careful to let the police do the killing.
