Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I call this one "Scaring the Enemy" in a bid to lower their morale:

I think it worked as I seem to have made the top 25% in the CG already.

This feels a bit strange as I've not really done all that much. Mind you, I bet the "Top 10 CMDRs" tier is absurdly high.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see I've made it to the Top 25% as well - have played quite a few on foot rounds the past week, but by no means a fanatical amount... yep, I presume Top 10 would require almost insane levels of enthusiasm - but still going to play a few more this evening if anyone's up for teaming up :)

Doh. I abandoned the Mandalay for the last leg home to start unlocking Domino Green before later realising she was already fully unlocked. I wondered why I wasn't getting a message even after relog.
I think if you go to your R/H panel and tab over towards the end there's a section that shows the status of the engineers and what you need to do. Over half of mine say they are over 22,000 Ly away because I'm in Colonia.

Hi All :)

Phew!...pretty hot still this morning and very humid...didn't sleep well so I got up out of bed, watered the plants before the sun had risen too much, about 5.30am.
Just booted up the game and carrying on with trucking stuff to the carrier. I tried playing late last night, but it was too hot in the room where I've got the computer. Air temp (ambient) about 75 degrees + in the room. Though the computer's staying pretty much 'cool' (Cpu about 60 degrees F & Gpu's about the same but it's obviously getting rid of that heat somewhere so I eventually shut it down and went outside to cool off! 🫠

Much cooler this morning though, so I'm intending to do another couple of hours collecting, then jump my carrier back into my system to unload....then catch up on some sleep!🥱
Whittled down the lesser tonnage stuff, plus another few loads of the more larger commodities, Steel, Titanium, Aluminium and Liquid Oxygen etc. I'll post how much more I need to obtain at the end of this post later with an edit.
I'm building this planet station inside one of the big star shaped craters there, easier to spot when coming into land ;)....the craters quite huge so I might be able to slip another smaller base in there in the future. I've seen briefly somewhere a reference to how far (Or close) you can build one station to the next...but I've forgotten!

Jack :)

First GCZ in days and obviously I decided to land in my flight suit. I had to run up to a guy with only harsh language in my arsenal so I could manage my loadout in the dropship.

On the upside, I skipped past rookie and made it to soldier rank.

I'm not sure if you can do that in an Apex but I may have forgotten to try. Obviously I should think ahead next time.

A flight suit GCZ will make nan of you my son *

I ran across a post about a system called 35 G. Carinae, which has several planets containing Brain Trees. Brain Trees can be useful when gathering Raw mats for engineering.

Well, some mad lad decided to Colonize the system (which is pretty far off the beaten track), and then he put a Settlement down exactly 25KM from each large Brain Tree patch, and named the settlement according to the G4 Raw mat that can drop from them, with a direction to fly and everything.

It must have been a huge amount of effort, with the idea of making it easier for CMDRs to find and fill up on Raw mats.

I had to see this for myself, so I took a little jaunt out there. Sure enough, large groves of Brain Trees brimming with materials.

Supposedly the fastest way to collect the mats is by using Flak Launchers from your ship, and collector limpets. I did not bother with all that. The SRV works fine. I suppose it's a bit slower, but I don't care that much :)

A big o7 to CMDR IFOLLOWMYDREAMS for doing this as a service to the community.

Never seen one of those trees for myself.

I'm hoping to stumble across some unseen ones rather than already discovered ones.

One day...

I think I only died once in that entire CZ. Shocking. I may have been a little less gung ho. You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, and know when to run.

Though I still got a high end of £8m. Which I like because that farming mission seemed to blow through several hundred million.

I was gonna do the crystal shard thing Mile 13 Gaming was explaining in a recent vid, but I agree, this is one of those really cool player initiatives that definitely deserve an o7.

I'll have to screencap so I remember after the CG.

Supposedly, that doesn't work any more ( at least from reading the forums). The flak launchers still work all right, but FD have fixed the limpets so that they can't collect the mats any more without crashing into the ground or the brain trees.

Yes, I heard that too. But I've also read that you can still get it work by reducing your graphics settings so that the trees despawn when you hover high enough, but still close enough for the limpets to get there. So they say.

I don't intend to try. Even if it works it's way too "gamey" for me.

On the other hand I do enjoy driving the SRV around and getting stuff, jumping out from time to time to scan a bio. That's more my style :)
