Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've only done PP for the Prismatics. I'm not much interested in it otherwise :)

Today I took a trip out to the Guardian ruins to gather stuff for the FSD Booster on my alt account. I haven't been out there in a long, long time. I figured I could also grab exploration data on the way. I need to unlock Marco Qwent, which means getting allied with Sirius. If I sell them enough exploration data, that'll do the trick, and it's easier than doing a bunch of missions.

It was actually day when I arrived. I figured it was a good omen. The site was very atmospheric. I really do love the old Guardian sites, they are some of the nicest assets in the game.

I kinda forgot how many sentinels there would be. In my memory there were only a couple, but today there were a dozen or more, thankfully not all at once. 4 was the most at once.

A fine time was had by all, and I succeeded in getting everything.

I arrived back with just over 10 million in exploration data. Might not quite be enough, but I'll go sell it and find out. :)

Currently on my final Codex Campaign - after that I wouldn't know what to (reasonably) look for anymore in regard to the Codex.

Was able to leave my mark in Tenebrae and Lyra's Song, now enroute into two remaining Galactic Sectors to conclude the Campaign.

Because you liked this ship so much. I got myself one for later. Why no beam with thermal vent to help cooling the MC's?
Because I started the build buying the paint job :D

I decided to call it Hindenburg, and then it became kind of obligatory to use "analog" oldschool weapons. I did try the beam vent, and it worked somewhat, but not as much as I expected, and it kind of ruined the idea behind the ship.

Why the fuel scoop? Because the gas tank won't get you home. The scoop weigh in at 0t, but you save 4t of fuel, making the whole thing fly marginally better.

Right now I'm ~1600 ly above the galaxy plane trying to see how high I can get.

Not a star in sight, except for all the ones down below. But I need to get higher ☝

I've recently ticked off my first fruiting barnacle site and have finished fully engineering the FSD on my DBX, now is the time to go to Pencil Sector ZJ-A C4 and start collecting for the Guardian FSD booster. I only have a vague idea of how these sites work so its going to be an experiment. I have the point defence installed on two wings and the rear of my DBX so I think I know which end of the ship I'll point at the site. With luck I won't have to worry about SRV combat.
What then? Perhaps more exploration in the Pleiades or perhaps some long haul passenger missions in the Orca. Thanks to all for the pointers on this thread.

The Hindenburg and it's looks could have come straight from "Iron Sky", which is more or less a spoof. The film has two parts, and the story was more than likely written by David Braben himself. ;)

I mean come on, space ships, Nazis on the Moon, Dinosaurs and all in one. Tells you what to expect of the next payable download. Dino's in the entire Shinrarta Dezhra system.

I coincidentely stumbled across this spoof, and it is so unbelievably bad, HItler riding in on a T-Rex, so cartoonishly ridiculous, that you just have to watch the end of it. Rumor has it that Li-Yong Rui is in negotiations of selling the entire BD+49 12 80 region, and that means resettle a population of 12,996,273,636.

There is strong resistance in the population as you might expect when someone proposes to transform the whole into a fly-by space Zoo with pressurized cabins, and little enclosure areas for larger habitats, all behind force fields in a fly-by loop for the very, the very very rich to visit.

I can smell turmoil status already, but we shall see....

;)

Anyone around here Trimix diving experience too? You know what I mean....

Be careful my friend, that urge to go deeper and deeper is undeniably a first sign.... you better jump back into civilization for a while, and you shouldn't do those trips all on your own.

;)

Iron Sky is fiction?
Don't be silly.
And I suppose Outpost isn't a film length documentary eh? ;)

Struggling to find a definitive answer to this: do lasers, specifically beam, do zero damage to a hull? Or is there damage but it's minimal?

My 4A (gimballed) beams are oversized and overcharged but do I just not use them after I've stripped the shields of an NPC?

They do less damage than, er, thingy, but still a considerable amount.
Stick a small gimballed or turret MC on there, engineer for high capacity/corrosive.
Increases damage from all weapons, a must for 'layzor' builds.

They do damage to armour. Class 4 A rated at 60.

I would guess they do little to zero damage to hull, but yeah, could not find a definite answer too.

What speed-coughs groans ;) said.... I too use them (fixed) in combination with MC in two fire groups, first lasers only for shields, then tutti with all MC's @ >150DPS, one with corrosive. Takes down elite condas quite fast.

Hull damage and armor damage? Now I'm extra confused.

You can take down any ship with pure beam lasers. So they do damage to the hard thingies that are not the shield. :) Quite a lot actually.

Beams were my first weapon of choice, and it's still one of my favorites.

I still find it hard to remember to do all the things I'm supposed to in the middle of a fight. Lock onto enemy modules in the menu. Manage pips. Take care of heat, using SC and HS. Boost at the right time. Keep out of enemy fire. Use the thrusters. Time the reloads. Select the correct fire group. Remember pips!!! Watch your six. Don't shoot when there is another ship in the way. But most of all hit the enemy. My poor brain gets overloaded.

Instead I liked to engineer my ship so that I could concentrate on my flying, and once I had the enemy in front of me, just squeeze the trigger and hold it until they popped. Very primitive I know, but when it comes to killing NPCs for personal pleasure, lets face it, it is kind of primitive (and fun).

For that, gimballed beams with long range or efficient and flow control does the job very well. I didn't even have to soften up the hull using corrosive shells. I think this method is a good way to start combat instead of all the FAoff fixed weapon "git gud" sb. Not many of us will ever become flying aces, and having a tidy ship once the crap hits the fan, at least for me, works better than trying to be "gud".
