Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I haven't posted in this thread in ages, but Dan's back, so... :)

I am half-way back from Colonia. I flew my DBX out there, partly to hunt untagged systems and partly to pin the four engineers around Colonia, which was done. The trip has been very successful. So far, I've found around 3,000 first discoveries, including 8 ELWs, 6 AWs, 60 WWs and over 1000 HMCs. Data is closing in on 500 mil. I didn't do it for money, but it's a nice bonus. It's amazing to me how much is still undiscovered, and not too far away. First untagged system was found 999 light years out.

Prior to this my farthest from start was 5,077 light years to unlock Palin a couple years ago. So this trip was way longer than anything I had done, and I've really enjoyed it. Very glad to have done it. Might not be back for a while though :)

How does that even happen??? You can ram ships as part of combat! And we have all bumped into asteroids in those zones as well....weird.

Safe journey on your cool down cruise!

I know! The only thing I can think of is that dirty rotten scoundrels were picking on a poor miner ("All I was doing was mining!") and I blundered in in me size twelves and accidentally headbutted him.

3k first discos! And all those luvvly cash-yielding planets. I need a "We are not worthy" emote as it makes my paltry 100 pail into insignificanse (y)

Would a gif do?

Aww, thanks man! :)

I stand is sheer awe at your discoveries man....no words but CONGRATULATIONS! Treat yourself to a Cutter LOL!

Ohhh, yeah, I guess accidentally flying into an 'innocent' somehow could do that...it's the only explanation I can think of.

No please, I've done nothing out of the ordinary, anyone can do it. I just took some time to plot a route I reasoned would be lightly traveled. And it was.

Here's what I did....

I took off from my temporary home base of Moxon's Mojo in the system Bolg. From there I flew up about 1,200 light years, and out to starboard about 30 degrees compared with the straight shot to Colonia.

Lots of commanders have had the idea to travel off-plane. But it seems that most times they say they flew down. So I went up. I flew out to starboard to gain some separation from what I believed would be the most heavily traveled corridor, heeling to port and toward the core/Sgr A once I was about 1000 light years from the corridor, before coming in to Jaques Station from abeam. I plotted my route in 3,000 light year sections, careful to not orient toward any nebula or other galaxy-map-visible attractions. Once I was in virgin space I filtered out M, L, T and Y stars.

At 150 light years out I got my first first-map. At 999 light years I got my first first-discovery and at 1500 light years it was all untagged. I then flew about 17,000 light years straight without seeing another commander name, before docking at Caravanserai on the Colonia highway to sell the data collected so far.

I found that just two jumps (65 light years in my DBX) off of the Colonia Highway were enough to leave the tagged systems behind. Coming home all I did was fly up about 1,000 light years. I am essentially running the highway back to the bubble, just way above it, and it's all untagged as well.

Colonia is 22,000 light years from Sol. My outbound trip took 29,000 to illustrate to a degree how circuitous of a route I took.

Oh yeah, I don't want a Cutter. Can I have some cake instead? :D

Found my first proto star today. So young that it hasn't decided where it fits in the sequence, or so the blurb said.It had a vaguely germanic double barrelled name* i've never heard of before, but i didnt get a codex disco,so maybe i've run into one, but just not noticed.Anyway,it looked very lonely hanging out all by itself, with.no asteroid field or planet, moon or companion stellar body for company. It makes me wonder what kind of future it will have out here, all alone in the dark.
Next system over, three ammonia worlds, one of them ringed.Does anyone know why Ammonia worlds are so highly prized? Is it just thargoid related, or is there more to it?

Don't suppose you got a photo of that proto star did you?

On ammonia worlds, yes, I think it is because of 'goids. I'm sure you've already read the Fandom wiki entry but, for sake if cometeness:

been influence deciat today: smuggle in some personal weapons and reactive armour :D
handsome fellow if i do agree myself doesn't look dodgey at all , got indicted 3 times but it was no match for my dolphin.
also just brought my new toy the viper upgraded to fsd 1 , mg level 2 , and shields level 1

I'm afraid not.It looked like a normal run of the mill scoopable single body system.I dont recall why i even bothered with a look at the system map, except habit.
Thanks for the link.I think i was confusing with methane atmosphere planets.I forgot about the wiki. Here's the system map though.

And speaking of navigation hazards, the worst i ever came across was a white dwarf in close proximity to an M class scoopable. Viscious.

I got to 4 weeks with Aisling; but, since it was coming up to the bank holiday, and since I can't really go abroad, I thought I'd take my first trip into the black (I previously considered Maia to be about as far into the black as I would dare go). It was a spur of the minute thing. I didn't buy the prismatic shield before leaving; because, I figured four days not going out to work would be plenty of time to bring a famous explorer to the Celestial Snowman and back in a 30Ly Asp X.

I scanned everything. Well, I bip-bip-boobed and FSS scanned everything. I surface scanned way too many things. I got my 1000Ly badge on the first day, and my get out of the Inner Orion Spur badge some days later. It took me one day shy of two weeks to get there and back and I was panicking about getting back in time to claim my 50 million salary from Aisling and to buy the prismatics. I went and sold the exploration data to Syrius Corporation for 600 million. From there I went to LYR space and bought a Krait Phantom and kitted out with lightweight things.

It genuinely felt like a real holiday.

Found another sector of space to spray paint my name on, this time with a more varied selection of bodies. HMC's ahoy! :D

HMCs are your friend for reliable cash, especially the CFT ones :)

I've been up to some skull-duggery in a backwater system that no one seems to visit that much, propping up an Empire faction with a view to turning the system over to the Baskable Empress :) I've also been hunting down the ne'er-do-wells in the local area, and in doing so seem to not be liked so much by some of the surrounding system factions :D Oh well, omelette, eggs, etc :D
