Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Currently I am mining Low Temperature Diamonds and have dragged my old Anaconda out to do it, I just take it gently and when I have 100 tonnes plus or an hour has gone I nip off and sell them, with its large Power Distributor tha Anaconda works quite nicely.

Next in the main game I think I should do something about getting some more exploration done as it almost feels embarrassing seeing all the posts saying how easy trade and exploration were to achieve and how difficult combat is while I got combat ages ago, before harvesting Thargoid scouts was possible, trade last year and still have most of the last rank of exploration to go, it’s just a matter of getting round to it.

I'm also hunting Elite combat rank. I turned Deadly March 1 and now 30%. It's worked out to be about 30 kills per point for me, prioritizing deadly and elite targets, but if it's in front of me I'll shoot it regardless of rank. At that pace it's 3000 kills to run through the rank to Elite, which was exactly how many ships it took to get from noob to Deadly. This pace will slow for commanders who either employ minions or fight in wings a lot. One of my friends in our PG just hit combat Elite at 11,000 kills as most of his combat has been winged up. That's a huge difference, nearly double to reach the same rank.

When I first got in to Elite and learned what triple Elite meant it became my main goal. I've let it come naturally, aside from the VO rush I suppose, and am nearly there. I am honestly concerned though that when I reach it I will lose motivation to play. Having a goal or purpose in Elite is pure gold and removing my longest running one could be detrimental. I said three years ago that I think once I hit triple Elite and have every ship I want I might stop playing. I guess I will find out sooner or later.
While triple elite is all nice and good, there's four ranks. You're not "done" with ranks until you're quadruple Elite!

CQC would certainly add a new goal :)

Setting new personal goals help a lot. There is more or less always something that you have not done before.

Good advice yeah, and I do this continually. Hit 3 bil in assets, visit Colonia, travel 200k light years, clean out my module storage haha. But yes, I'm always setting short term goals, but those get passed and eventually I'll find them harder to come by. This is a personal cross to bear, and plenty of commanders will play just because they love it. I seem to need a clear purpose to keep me motivated.

That‘s OK I am not greedy, three will do for me at least for now.

Eventually I suppose I will try to fire up CQC to see what it is like, maybe during the beta if the ingame launch is still there.
I hope the in-game launch make it to live. I've not yet tried CQC, had enough things to do in game already. But if I could launch CQC from game I would definitely do that from time to time!

Orodruin, I agree. I take extended breaks from the game for other pursuits, but I find I keep coming back and suddenly find things I can do. For example, a lot of my activity recently stemmed purely from sitting at Jameson and reviewing all my ships, ship by ship, in the outfitting screens. Hmm, what else could I do with this? Can it be better? Should it be re-purposed (like I did with my Beluga)?

Returning to civilisation... first time in the black for two consecutive days without returning "home". Bit like first time out camping.

We'll keep a stool warm for you at the bar (pub)!

I love building new ships and trying them out. If material trading and selling engineered ships and modules ever became a thing for fleet carriers as some have suggested, it is very likely that I would get one and focus it on that. You would all be welcome to the carrier ”Orodruin’s premium ships and wrecks”

Now, I strongly doubt anything like this will be implemented as it would allow people to just skip the grind for materials and unlicking engineers...

Neither does combat elite. You can just outfit a ship with turreted AX multicannons and sit around an AX conflict zone for enough time.
really need to get these soon. some pirates are getting corrosive hull killers. and I'm only a expert. 33% towards elite rank.
have them book marked from the squadron, never really reach out for them yet! never needed them until recently. maybe soon, only have 4 engineers unlocked out of 15 i think it is now!

am beginning too to look at ship building in a different light.eg that needs changing, what i think FD missed out on was a module build so you can added a modules to the ships and have a flying forteress:D

There are an awful lot of us who fart in the general direction of that CQC aberration.

... and perhaps you might end up doing so when you get around to trying it. I can't believe you "plugged" it without trying it.

CQC is one of those infamous "great ideas executed in the worst possible manner" FDev are known for.
Personally I really like it but for it to be a viable entertainment it needs several things. Namely:
1) a lot more ships, maps and modes
2) the ability to queue and readily jump in from the main game (hopefully coming)
3) the ability of a whole whole wing to join together
4) the possibility for a wing challenging another wing to a match.
5) leaderboards accessible from the main game.

If it has at least this, there will be no shortage of players.

Crossing the core on my way up to four corners, after stopping off at Explorers Anchorage for repairs. Just wandering, really.Taking the odd snapshot.
Galactic tourist, you know. Enjoying the wilderness before it becomes over-run by charabancs full of oiks on a beer run to Beagle Point.

That fumerole was blazing when we arrived.Made a very good landing beacon, but went out before we could toast marshmallows,so it's
kippers for breakfast.

Out in the near black again, still getting some firsts. I don't know why I enjoy this so much bit there you go :D

Only one thing annoys me though; when the body in the FSS you want to scan is occluded by the star. It's such a chore to have to exit, fly around and redo isn't it? :D
Yes. You can lower the probability of this happening by identifying the orbital plane and flying away from the star a bit in a direction perpendicular to it before starting your scan.

That is the downside of FSSing while scooping heading away from the star for a few seconds reduces the chances of it happening, but it is annoying.

I usually FSS while scooping. Unless there is something particularly interesting (such as an earthlike, waterworld, or similar) behind the star, I just don't bother. I leave it as a present for someone to share the system with me ... ;)

I'm OCD though. If I find a virgin system, I have scan the while thing. Only map ammonia, tww and elw's however
I understand the OCD. I managed to get rid of it, at least partially. I will map ammonia and water worlds only if they are a reasonable distance away. Undiscovered ELWs I will happily do a 15 min+ supercruise journey to map. On the trip I made to the heart and soul nebulae, I only found a single undiscovered ELW. Surprisingly, it was in a discovered system with several mapped planets. Must have been someone who was there before the invention of the FSS. Anyway, it was over 400 kls away so I set the course, engaged full throttle and went to make a coffee ...
