Huh.
After 2 years using a PS4 d-pad I finally got to test the HOTAS.
It was like starting all over again from scratch.
Attempting to manage my fully enginered Cobra 3 with the default controls, I blasted off from a Coriolis starport and requested permission to land again. Taking it slowly, I used the right MFD to drop the undercarriage and guided it into perfect hover above the assigned pad. Dead centre.
Feeling pretty smug I tried to thrust down, but the Cobra refused to move. It wouldn't go up either. With time running out I left the station and requested another landing slot, after figuring out that thrust up and down were on two buttons on the back of the throttle that I hadn't even known were there.
After obtaining permission I tried to be clever and use the buttons to drop the landing gear again rather than the right MFD. Because I'm old I hit the wrong button and deployed hardpoints instead.
You know whats coming next.
Somehow in my inept pushing of buttons trying to figure out what does what I opened up on the station with multicannons. No problem, I'll boost out of range and jump before station security can spread me all over the galaxy.
Except the undercarriage was still lowered. (I hadn't noticed because I was taking things slowly). No boost. No jump. Kaboom
Rebuy. My first since 2019. (It was only 307k so not worth crying over)
Moral of the story : - RTFM. No, I will not be wasting a slot on a DC.
Currently out in the black practicing FA off maneouvres in HGEs, capturing mats with the cargo scoop, then landing and repeating until the wife kicks me off so she can play Crash Bandicoot. Sometimes marrying a gamer girl ain't all its cracked up to be....
