Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Well, I arrived at Jameson Memorial and bought a Vulture and kitted it out for combat. Now I need to find me some low level pirates to practice on. I have a feeling there aren't many pirates in Shinrata though.
There's plenty one stop over in Fong Wang system. That was my practice grounds for quite a while.

There are a couple of res sites in the Shin system. One is haz though.

Great, will check those out.

Had my first kill in the Vulture! Yeh! TBF, they didn't really fire back though.
Back to Jameson to try out a few different weapon configs. Not sure about the beam laser.

This is my current Vulture, named "Bunzilla." It's quite fun to fly. The MCs are an experiment. I haven't decided if I like them yet. :)

Does using gimbled or turreted affect how you level up in combat?
An interesting question, to which i don't know the answer. From what i gather from the posts of more experienced combat flyers, it is best to start with gimbals and take them as far as they will go/ you feel they can take you, then switch up to turreted when you have perhaps had a chance to build up your flying skills.
Bear in mind that some of the more advanced combat players will also be flying Flight Assist OFF, and will therefore have an advantage that only experience brings..
In reality that is only of concern against player commanders. But like everything else in the game, it is very much down to the individual. i guess.that's what they mean by 'blaze your own trail'.

No, it's just based on how many kills of what rank. The Wiki has the numbers. Here's a quote:

" It takes approximately 2,225 experience points to go from Deadly to Elite Combat ranking. This equals 1,780 Elite kills, or approximately 2,400 kills based on a more average distribution of ships."

So, double that if you're starting from Harmless :)

Still haven't worked how to do that.
In the Galaxy Map, in map mode, the fourth tab is the filters use the drop box to choose the filter type one of them is Visited Stars that has 3 check boxes
  • Visited
  • Non Visited
If you want to only go to places you have been before select Visited only
If you want to only go to new places select Non Visited only
If you want all stars select both
  • Plot Route Using Selection (always select this one)
As with all the filters the route planner will ignore them if there is a way to complete the route in a nearly straight line using the wrong sort of star. Changing map mode to realistic or Powers disables filters. Changing the mass of your ship after plotting the route can break the route
.

A break from combat is required. Back into the near black for some exploration whatsits for me for a bit.

One of these days, I'll find something totally unique. I also want to see more alian stuff: according to the Wiki, there're tons of ET's out there. I just get the feeling most of it is weeks of carrier jumps away :D

Hmmmm... I think that you mean move from gimballed to fixed weapons as your skill improves. Turreted weapons have lower DPS, are defeated by chaff (like gimballed) and are more expensive and power hungry - they have their place but not as a weapon to graduate "up" to as your piloting skill improves.

Right. I've missed something (nothing new about that. then!). What changes to engineering?
Hi bud.
It was on Galnet runs to Jan 7th, It isn't much cop to be honest though.

You get through the bottom 3 tiers quicker but G4 and G5 are pretty much the same and these are the materials that are problematic to gather.
