Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

A Cutter is big, really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely... etc.

Visiting a materials trader, I concluded that I'm pretty good for raw mats now... but we seem to be in in orbit above a triple geological planet. Would be a shame not to take a look...

First off; warm. Here on the terminator, it's 200 degrees C. There's also no minerals by this geyser, which is annoying.

In fact, there was a lot less going on down there than the last triple geo body; but this time, I knew what can be found, and therefore didn't linger in the barren areas.

Side note; you can do some really good scouting moves with the external camera. Just be sure you're flying level!

Eventually I struck the jackpot; for it is all about the magma. Ten minutes later, I'd gathered 5 clusters of needle crystals, and a couple of lower grades.

This planet is, on the whole, not as productive as this morning's moon. But with a bit of willingness to get back on the ship and fly up a little, it can be made to deliver. In fact it seems more inclined to give up T2 and above than it is to provide T1. It may just be a case of persuading the game to repopulate the instance that it makes around you when you land. I'm really not sure how much of the detail is procedural vs pure RNG.

From what I can tell, magma = T3 or 4, fumeroles = T2, and geysers = T1. I will be ignoring anything without magma from here on.

Although I probably don't need to come back for a while... today's haul should see me good for several months 😸 Though I think next time, I will use a smaller ship. Even the autopilot can take a while to park a cutter on rough terrain!

abandoned settlements for mat gathering sites.
Some day I will visit them:

...End of week (Lost count! 6,maybe 7 weeks?)

Spent the week @Beagle Point waiting for FCOC Jormungandr to arrive, which it did early Saturday.
While waiting, I have been farming materials with the SRV on the few bodies around BP.

I saw a post earlier regarding poor returns, and in my limited(Very) experience, I always land in a crater and farm there.
My reasoning being, if it's a crater, something must have made it? Well over 1k mats now, so can easily synth FSD jumps and repair/refuel SRV.
Maybe I'm just lucky, or theres a method to my madness?.

FCOC Jormungandr is leaving Beagle Point to SAG A tomorrow, so it will be nice to get nearer civilization!
Not sure if I'll make my own way, or grab another FC back to the bubble.

Lastly a very big thank you to @cmdr Earthserpent (Owner of FCOC Jormungandr) who's kindness is exceptional! Good luck with your finals bud o7

I dunno about now, but back in the ancient past when I first started, crater rims always worked well for me.
used to like doing the barnacle sites and annoying the goids.

I'm really loving craters - terrain seems predictable?
Speed 10 on metal bodies and speed 16 on icy. Blasting around @30+ is fun on the flat, but be ready to catch the spin. Hand brake is your friend here.

Point, sit back and enjoy the ride.

When I first stated with the SRV, I was planning my routes around rocks, boulders, valleys etc, then started to mess around.

The SRV is one tough puppy! Trust drive assist - it goes nuts occasionally, but let it do it's thing. It always recovers.
Switch to turret mode, sit back with a beer/smoke whatever and enjoy the scenery.

I've read that Odessy gets a bad rap, but as I've know nothing else, it's fine for me.
If ED was just driving around bodies exploring in an SRV, I'd be happy with the $50 outlay!
