Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Odyssey material gathering madness. It isn't as bad as I thought, pretty nice actually once you find a good spot.
Driving an SRV around is still my favourite thing to do in Elite when I just want to have fun.
It's got that right "easy to learn, hard to master" attitude I wish more occupations in Elite had. Most things you do DO throw curveballs at you but only up until a certain point. Driving an SRV, though, is just as fun after 20k kilometers traveled as it was the first time I sat in it. :)

It really isn't 😸 On a good day, I can roll around fumeroles for 10-15 mins, then take 5 mins finding the next patch. Sometimes it feels like continuously rolling from one to another for many miles.

Mostly I give planets a 2 strike rule; first time I drop down on a 'blue' geology zone and hit nothing, I'll supercruise up and have another go. Second time, if there's still nothing, I leave.

Seems there's a fair discrepancy between different places, even if they have similar surface characteristics and geology counts. If it turns out your planet of choice is a low density one, best just to move on.

navy strike mission -pirate assassination, completed (only 4) but it was fun and very long wait periods in-between, and other time mat gathering for ship.

I know I'd decided to go buy a DBX... but there was 1 moon left around this gas giant, and it was yet another ammonia atmosphere.

And yes, it's back to the terrifying kind where clearly things will eat you if the sun goes down. Fortunately my autopilot had no trouble picking me up from this one.

These have all been around Col 285 Sector TE-H c10-9, should anyone care to visit. About 50ly outside the bubble, trio of moons with ammonia atmospheres, many bio signals, and massive variation in appearance. I know for a fact there's still some biologicals that nobody has scanned, because I have first footfall on 2 of the moons and couldn't find everything that's apparently down there.

Went to sell my scan data to one of the factions on my shortlist; which sadly only summed to half a million, but I did find this very cool wide-ringed HMC world where the station is orbiting in the gap. Which kind of reminded me that bio signals rarely show up on the worlds that are considered valuable. Oof.

Anyway, the bio data was worth 2.7 million, but indeed seems not to generate any local reputation. Shame. That was much harder to get than the scans, I feel like it should be rewarded with something more than raw credits.

Next sesh I think I'll head up to Shin'Dezra and get myself something a little more nimble. Might just look at refitting my Phantom with nice big thrusters... but I'm still in the mood for that DBX, if only because I've never had one, and I fancy a very small landing footprint for the most rugged planets. Turns out there's still plenty of things to get my name on within just a couple of jumps of the bubble!

Although I guess I won't have the chrome paint job any more 😿
