Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'm currently flying my brand new Krait MkII and working cash flow for the A-upgrades. I also nearly 'lost' it on first launch where i somehow drifted sideways and got stuck in some struts and metal girders and nearly had a heart attack (not really, but kinda) as it seemed like i might not 'escape' from them as the shields started to disappear! Luckily i wiggled out and all is well with the world :)

However i do wonder at some of the landing pad designs in the stations where you have all this stuff to avoid? Health and Safety at work?
When you become entangled, retract, or deploy and retract your landing gear.

I don't know what laws of physics are applied there, but it works!

After a few weeks "back on Earth", I fired up the VR headset, and found myself in my favorite Mamba in some small space station I didn't know. "Slightly rusty" brushed off quickly and after circling the station a couple of times, pressing boost, and hearing "SWOOSH-MEGABOOM-AFTERBURNecho..." made me feel comfy.

This game is still mindblowingly beautiful :alien:

That's Verity, isn't she?

I remember your thread about it, a few months ago, which inspired me to build a Mamba for my next expedition in the black!

She is ready, I only need to buy a suitable paintjob and close some business in the bubble before I set off!

Oh yes, it is. :alien: I think it's a matter of taste, and how ones brain is wired, but flying Verity feels just like it should. And she's pretty.

"Get off my lawn - mkay?"

Well hello there CMDRs!

I've been away (again) a long time (again!) and am slowly getting back to grips with ED.

He says - it's been about 9 days and I have 433 million credits already (I zeroed a save to start over).

Just a little bit of High-Res cop-scrounging toget the Sidey upgraded, short explo hop to reel in 40 million for the first chunk of change, a little bit of wandering about doing this and that to start getting Engineers open, and then spending half my 'float' on a Type-7 to run Performance Enhancers to Algol for silly money (12 million per run! 1 Run roughly every 20 mins).

Then it was off down to Summerland for the combat CG - since I'd picked up Odyssey (mainly for the exploration side of things) I thought I'd give the 'on foot' CZ's a go - much quicker method of contributing than in a ship - at least with my combat 'skills'.

So the bonus for that landed today. I know, thems rookie numbers - but I remember what it was like at the beginning

Now I'm sitting in my lil orange Adder on the edge of a massive crater on Isis II:

I came to the Isis system after I stumbled upon a previous 'tinfoil post' I made in the Raaxla thread last time I was frequent in these parts, that I never followed up on. No '8th Moon of a Gas Giant' here, but before I move on, if I read Isis II right, there should be some bio-signs down on the surface for me to scan.

So I'm about to suit up and go for a stroll.

I do like how the suit cosmetics show your current loadout in the cockpit:

Good to be back!

Now, excuse me, but Raxxla ain't gonna find itself o_O

I should probably practice more with the camera suite, too!

More near-bubble "exploration", this time in the HIP 7101 system, a convenient 200ly from the HQ of the Communist Party of Drakonia, who I have decided to get allied status with because I like the name.

Also found the alt-f10 high res screenshot button so... maybe I can make visuals with less of the jaggies I suffer in game due to upscaling for performance reasons 😹

In addition to many bodies nobody had ever bothered mapping, this system has some lovely volcanic moons of wide-ringed brown dwarves, leading to some pretty cool skies.

There's also a pair of ammonia moons with 7 bio signals each. One of them has by far the highest density of exoflora I've seen to date, with one spot being able to see 5 different species at the same time. Buzzing around to find an elusive 6th (it likes small rocky outcrops and is very rare), I kept on finding patches of 2-3 different types of plant. Which is very satisfying, because my exobiology intuition says flora should be as dense as the atmosphere and soil nutrients can support. There's no reason there would be any less than the maximum amount the planet can sustain. And indeed, plants tend to make atmospheres...

The other was a little more sparse, but still rewarding, and a more mellow desert experience overall. (There was a ringed brown dwarf parent body to these moons, but the atmospheres are so hazy they fade into invisibility. The entire lighting is provided by the main star of the system.)

End result, 12 million from exploration data, 3 million from bio data, and indeed allied status. All within 4 jumps of the bubble. Barely even needed a fuel scoop 😸

TLDR, it's never too late to go exploring. Even if you don't have a lot of range or want to be able to get back to a station within 20 minutes, there's cool stuff out there you can tag for scans and footfalls.

Welcome back!

As for me, I'm still waiting for BT and Openreach to pull it together and re-establish my link to the real world.

I feel like I'm living in 1985 or something.

To add insult to injury, my TV box has packed up as well so that needs an engineer. And it won't be Ram Tah.
