Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I've never plotted a route that long. Longest would have been across the bubble, from one engineer to another.

One reason surely is that, most of the time, I don't find the peace and quiet to play longer sessions. And if there would be some silence, I would find myself too exhausted and tired to play for long. Last thing you want to do is travel somewhere and fall asleep along the way. Luckily, I woke up before I ran out of fuel, but a few billion lightseconds past my destination...
I, myself, can do 15 systems a session (unless I've landed to hunt bios), three sessions a day - 45 to 50 systems a day it can take a week to do an average plot as long as the stars aren't too dense. I'll map everything with biosigns, water and ammonia worlds and terraformables, I won't land unless there's four or more biosigns, it slows me down to much.

I just returned from a session that was a little more on the successful side. Managed to collect 3 complete sets of samples - Tubus, Bacterium and Osseus. With the Cactoidia I scanned a few days ago, I now have 4 of 5. The one missing is Fungoidia Setisis. But right now, I'm too tired to go on.

Yes, I just landed on a GG moon with 6 biosigns and took a peek with the external camara. I like to use the mapping utility as a "blink comparator" and try to land where several are overlapping, makes things go faster. The more you do it, the better/faster (efficient) you get, it takes time, but you will persevere. It's always best with a fresh set of eyes. o_O

Oh yeah, I do that with the hard to find ones, look on the map to see where the bio is that has smallest coverage and try and match that with the other bio as much as possible to get lots of bio together, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but when it does is saves a lot of time.

I sometimes do that, too, when I remember to do it. This time was an unintentional stroke of luck. I was looking for Fungoida and hadn't checked if any of the others might be there, too. I already had one sample of F. Setisis in my scanner from a different place, but after stumbling across three different biosigns in relative abundance and a lack of F. S., I dumped that sample and went on to scan the others.

As you undoubtedly know that will be hiding at or near the top of almost unclimbable peaks with little or no areas flat enough to land anything, unless you are out near Colonia and the Core when it might be on merely high ground with easy landing as that is the place you won’t be looking for it.

I started this trip from Suhte, heading up.
The rock I'm on is quite bumpy all over, not many really flat plains. The area I found the three bios together was the first time I saw flat spots big enough to land medium or large sized ships. Everywhere else was even difficult to find a spot for a moth, often parking on slopes.
Many bigger elevation changes make it difficult to do the camera drone scout flight technique, as you always risk to bump into a mountain.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna spend much time searching for the Fungoida before heading on to one of the other planets in the system that have biosigns.

Sounds nasty enough for Setisis, stopping and moving on as soon as it gets too annoying is good I would sooner feel a little regret that I didn’t try just a bit more than feel the the game was loosing its fun.

I got lucky. Flew to a different spot, almost landed on one and found the others in close proximity.

Now I'm on a different body, already scanned some Cactoida. They don't seem to like company of other species, it seems. The patch where I found them had only them, the other species all had this patch neatly cut out of their map...
I'm on the fence if I should go on searching for the other three - Osseus, Fungoida and Bacterium.
Something tells me I'm better off to a new system.

The osseus and bacteria you should find together in the same place. One thing I loathe is when I'm landing on craggy terrain, the HUD will show the ship blue (standard colors) all the way down and I'll get to 2 meters and stop, can't go any further down and the ship won't shut off. Very aggravating.

Yeah, I've seen one patch of Bacterium and one Osseus in the area I landed before ending the session, but that was all. Maybe I'll try one more place before I go somewhere else (a different system).

I have got into the habit now when landing on a planet* of
  1. hovering directly above the point where I wish to land
  2. changing the attitude of the ship so that it matches the angle of the ground**
  3. holding flight assist off so the ship falls down to where I want to land
I find this more reliable especially in a confined space as long as gravity isn’t too high and I make sure everything has come to a stop and I‘m not leaning on the joystick before going FAoff.

** green indicators

*now I am back amongst spinning stations I am having to concentrate a bit when landing as an habitual touch of FAoff sends the ship hurtling sideways as the spin correction goes off.

I should try FA off, I didn't think of that, I have auto landing turned off, have for a very long time.
