Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi :)
I have loads of kit old lying around. I have some HDD's somewhere as I don't like wondering if some dodgy tip person might take them and see if they can get details about me off 'em. Paranoid much, Tyres? :D

The system I was in no longer has any conflict zones so I'm currently trying to find a new place to lay day down covering fire and git sum git sum.
Well seems I'm not the only one with 'uncertainties' about keeping stuff I no longer use reading through these recent posts! ...which is reassuring.
As for Hard drives, I got rid of about 3 (I think) some months back, all low capacity's, Sata 20GB ones with one maybe 10Gb IDE drive... I took them outside, wrapped them in a plastic bag laid them on my concrete path and 'tenderised' them all with a 4 LB steel lump hammer. Then to the tip they went. :D
You can still buy / sell those capacity drives on e-bay etc. but as you say, I was also fretting someone might get info off them if I just passed them on, even after formatting them.
Most of the other computer stuff I got rid of today was in good condition and in good working order, but well past their sell by date sort of. Anyway, most of the stuff was accepted as such and was stored in shed in a separate part of the depot, what they are actually going to do with it I don't know. 🤷‍♂️...probably sell it on.

Okay, I'm really getting off topic now so back to the game.
I've used some already stored engineered modules for my Mandalay's, but concentrated the better engineered ones for the single Mandalay I'll be using from my Carrier. I've used up some of my stored materials / data and used them to engineer some new modules, so I'm going to top those back up before I head off into deep space. The metals / minerals I've used can be gathered / replenished while I'm out there doing some mining again.
I exchanged some more ARX and bought the 'Mandalay Griffin Red' paint job for my carrier based one, also just discovered today that there's some brand new paint jobs appeared for several ships on the store so I might have a closer look today at some of them, the new Python (Mk1) 'Independent Freedom', 'Independent Unbound' & Independent Sovereign' paint jobs are rather unique and a bit 'classy', so I'm tempted to buy one or two of those. Plus those all black / midnight black paint designs might be another option.

Colonisation.
I'd really like to get an idea of what they meant in more detail about the 'distance' and 'uninhabited' systems they briefly discussed in the last livestream, I get the meaning of uninhabited, that's pretty straightforward, but I wonder if it's also relevant whether that system needs to be 1st discovered by you (as in your own Cmdrs. name) or if it's a system that's uninhabited but has been discovered by someone else. I've 1st discovered systems that are not too far out from some inhabited ones, within or just under about 500LYrs, but not that many. Most of my 1st discovery's are a good deal further out than that, but there are some other closer ones in to the bubble that I've 'part 1st discovered'. Systems that were skipped through by players that only registered it's main star etc.
I also wonder if the content of those systems has any bearing whether or not they qualify for a colonisation settlement, for example a system might need to have at least 1 terraformable world like an earth like world or a planet that's a 'candidate' for terraforming or something along those lines to qualify.
I'm just pondering on these things as it might be an idea sooner rather than later to start looking for suitable colonising systems! .. and as I'm going out there soon I might need (or it might be a good idea) to take note of some possible systems.
Still...we should hopefully get more info on this in the next livestream...though I wouldn't say no to some more details before the next one. As in line with and what happened with the new power play feature, it would be interesting and perhaps informative to have a similar question and answers section at some point about this colonisation process before the next livestream, or one of the near future ones if possible....just before or over the Christmas period would go down well with the game / forum community I would think. ;)

Colonisation.
I don't think that you have to have found the system you want to colonize. That would make it quite difficult for newer players like me to get a foothold somewhere.
My guess would be that the system you want to colonize has to be within 200ly from an inhabited system. But you are free to build a daisy-chain of colonized systems out to some specific system you'd like to colonize.
Looking at how inhabited systems in the bubble are set up, I don't think that there is an ELW or terraformable required to colonize a system. Heck, I've found a system in the bubble that consist of a star and a station that orbits said star.
Regarding the implementation of PP into the colonization, it looks like you'll be able to dedicate your system(s) to the power you pledged to.

Bye bye, Eagle Nebula.

The next trip from Rohini to Skaudia was a griiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind in the Cobra but I just think of the cash I'll pick up for outfitting. Though at least It's a little easier from now since I have four big trips and four small ones left before Colonia. It's just a shame it'll take a couple of days and a gajillion bazillion creds to transfer the Krait for some proper bounty hunting.

I think from now I'll have to make a note of any discoveries I'd really like to secure while keeping cart data for Colonia. I'll probably try some safe stuff while spreading the wealth with local factions for better payouts.

I wasn't going to go that far but I have decided wheresoever I do a serious stint of PP 2.0 should be on the outer edge of that 12th of the Bubble, so I'm ready to pivot (and likewise if I go on another exploration jaunt it'll be outward from there)

Time was I knew how to core mine. I used EDDB to find a pristine ice ring with very high mass, found a hot-spot and dived in. Now I'm looking for a likely candidate near my pledged power and... EDDB we miss you. Any suggestions to resolve my lack of information?
This used to be good for platinum lazorz:

... not sure if that's near enough.

Would something like this help?

CMDR Passin' has been sputtering around in his Diamondback. Gee that void black for the P2 sounds tempting. But, I already indulged Frontier's grabbypants scheme (specifically, packaging two old plain paintjobs no longer available used to be 390 ARX with a ship kit for like 17k ARX). spits a pitch of beech-nut out the DBS smoker window and closes it. So I don't know what's the story with Mr. Passin' getting Penny's ARX-bought Python; but it made a fine Sidewinder.

But it's kind of like the blue roan in the Passin' Through novel.

So anyway time to time I find CMDR Passin Through spends time taking malware from the strongholds to sneak into settlements and upload it. And distributing a load of deeds or polito servants. Yet my cargo holds are rather modest

I just have to remember to keep at the larceny and drug sales too, for a more balanced portfolio to invest in a freighter some day

Found the green cheese.

I have a system that I'd want to colonize, because it has special meaning to me. It was the first system I discovered with an Earth-like world in it, and the first one in which I put my name on all the bodies.

But...it's over 500LY from Colonia, and I'm sure will be out of reach.

Oh well. I have a feeling it's going to be very expensive and time consuming to colonize a system, anyway. I probably won't have the drive to do it :)

It might require you to colonize a few systems on the way there, to form a bridge for the colonization vessel to get there.
That vessel sounds like it is a hybrid between a station and a fleet carrier, with production facilities to build stations and stuff.

Now that you talk about this being expensive, this newsreel about the possibility to find more useable tech in the titans' remains starts to make much more sense.
Scientists were talking about how improved heat management could reduce production costs. Does that ring a bell?

When the time comes, share it in this thread - perhaps people will muck in to help.

I suspect the mechanics will be inspired by Powerplay, so certain systems will be initially out of reach and require intermediate systems to be colonised - like building a supply chain. I suspect that Colonia will become something of a centre for people playing this aspect of the game.

I found an ELW about 300LY from the bubble. It's got my name on it and it would be cool to build out in that direction.

Wondering what to do with this thing...

Been a while since I played. Not got enough mats to fully engineer it, so that needs working on before I do anything. I mean sure, I could disassemble one of the old favorites, but the FSD is some newfangled thing anyway and all the rest is window dressing.

Figured maybe I could tour the new PP2 stronghold systems before I pick one. Li Yong-Rui, never been to and what an ugly industrial back end it is. You'd think he'd pick something a bit more enjoyable as his main BOO, a nice earthlike or terraformed planet to hang out on. Which makes me realise I'm going to be very sad to lose access to Sol...

Currently idling at Pranav Antal's stronghold because I do do a lot of exobio and that 30% extra payout is tempting. Turns out I'm already allied to the controlling power, Guardians of Harmony, from a couple of years back. They're offering a delivery mission for 12 of a material I'm bottlenecked on. Great! Let's have one of my multipurpose pythons transferred, eta 33 minutes!

...mission evaporated before the ship arrived. I... should have known it would do that and accepted it even without a vessel that could ship that much cargo.

Maybe the better option is fit this Osprey Mandalay out with a bit of cargo space and a collector limpet controller, and do the missions it needs while actually flying it. With 5A thrusters this thing is so fast I don't think it needs guns. Cruising at 400m/s, boosting to 500, and of course an SCO friendship drive. But there's enough spare power for a couple of efficient beam lasers, so might as well fit 'em.

Now shipping modules over from Jameson Memorial and going to bed. Will rebuild tomorrow as a mission runner and noodle around the bubble a bit seeing what I can pick up to make it even faster. Going to end up with a trail of parts strewn around various systems, but what else is new. (FDev, if the game got a new minor feature, could it be a "bring all modules here" button?)

Hi All :)

I've a few ELWs too, not many but I've kept them bookmarked etc. I have 2 really nice interesting systems (not ELW's) but they're about 8000ly out from the bubble
Incidentally, I just went to check on the Gal map a few minutes ago the exact distances, but just as I was about to I got the 'Server Error' come up in the game! 😖
Okay, I know it's Sunday and I guess there's going to be a few people logged into the game but......I got slightly frustrated last night while I was playing, I am 'heading out' again but a speedy journey was curtailed slightly by the 1hour 20min Carrier jump time! ...I just set the next jump and went to bed!. (Must admit, I have a bad cold at the moment and am aching like hell, so it was probably a good move :D)
I've got a 1st discovered system that's maybe...(just booted up the game again...success!)...100ly out from one of the Colonia Bridge Mega station / Carriers with an ELW world in it. So another one of the thoughts that spring to mind is....I wonder if the Colonia Bridge mega ship systems count as an 'inhabited system'...food for thought there. ;)

Edit...Carrier jump times not too bad this morning....18min. (y)
Wondering what to do with this thing...

...Yeah, I had that thought too when I bought the ship!...I've got this one (Mandalay) that's on my Carrier 'engineered out', it's got a 65ly jump range but it's modules are all G5, with all it's hardpoints filled, all it's utility slots filled (a couple of shield boosters in there) and two optional slots with srv bays filled, a limpet collector etc etc.
I've filled up those hardpoints just to see how it affects the general ships power, jump range and speed etc. I obviously don't need weapons or the kill warrant scanner where I'm going but I'm still tinkering with it at the moment.

That's just lazy.

...I was just thinking that about myself just now when I was plotting my next Carrier jump, I could easily jump into my DBX and get to my next destination in about 5 - 10 minutes but....yeah, guilty as charged in that respect. My only excuse is while I'm waiting for the Carrier to jump I can browse the forums and at the same time eat my breakfast....multi tasking!:D

I have too many modules in too many places to make that a useful feature so will make do with calling them to me or remote selling on a case by case basis.

Mine will be for exobiology/exploration and will have the decals to prove it, the full weapons suite etc are merely present to restrict jump range so I get a minimum of ~10 stops for each 500ly carrier jump.

I haven’t really kept notes on where my discoveries are so will probably look into that when we know more.
My first First System Discovery was somewhere between Maia and the California Nebula, made during one of the CGs to establish a new science outpost on the far side of the nebula. Obviously with all the traffic it wasn’t on the direct line in fact I think I was getting so far off to one side that I was on the point of setting the filters to allow previously visited stars due to the increased number of jumps I was taking.

Might have forgotten to fit a fuel scoop before I set out on a 7-jump transport mission... the HUD made sure to remind me of this all the way to the final dock 😹

So now I've gotten myself into the tiniest backwater system that is so run down they actually import biowaste when things are going well. As a treat.
1731246412520.png

But at least they paid 10x g5 manufactured materials.

Naturally they can't supply anything above a 1E scoop, so 3A is being shipped over from Shinrarta since I have to break off for a bit anyway. It's a good thing I left a trail of modules after all 😹

Gawrsh.

It's been quite some time since I build a ship from scratch. I might just do one. For science.

No idea what it's role would be though as I have every discipline just about covered. Except maybe Titan 'sploding but then I've not really got into that.

Then again... no, I think I'll stick to ground combat for a while.
