Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Best to collect materials all the time, taking the opportunity to scan things and drop in on USSs while going about whatever you choose to do rather than go off specifically looking for them. As you are finding going out and hunting them when you need them is not that much fun but it is only a little effort to drop in on these tings when you are flying past them anyway.

You know, I've never done the USS thing...hmmmm. No, I won't be distracted! :D

Now that my ship can actually defend itself, I always drop in on a USS if I'm passing, it's fun bailing people out when there's a distress call, and there can be large groups of pirates which is fun in a big ship. But my cargo hold is always full to bursting, so while I scan everything in sight, I have never tried hoovering anything up. I'm just going to do the easy bits of engineering, mats etc., leave the tricky bits out and stick to Solo (engineering seems pretty essential in Open, owing to the arms race, as I'm a bit Marty McFly when people pick on me or call me chicken!).

Not only one of the easiest, one of the most fun if you’re not role playing a good guy. I unlocked him last night on my Alt account using my Sidewinder, two small cargo racks and a heatsink. EDDB is your friend when it comes to finding what’s illegal and where....and outposts with black markets if you don’t want any hassle when trying to dock.

I used Imperial slaves, apparently many sell themselves into “slavery” temporarily to pay off debts. I still feel grubby, but hey my power distributor is a boost machine now:eek:

Are "slaves" and "imperial slaves" the same thing?

Yeaaaahhhhsssss!

Was going to start another thread but it may be better here - I create too many threads as it is and have verbal diarhea sometimes. Ahem.

Got into Mobius and, at Dav's, there was another player present. Before I knew it, I got a tell saying the CMDR will mode switch so I could have the place to myself. So thank you whoever you were - ED doesn 't have a PNP enforced as far as I know so such behaviour is refreshing in an MMO.

And now, I think, comes my very first piece of salt for these boards. Engineering. I have enough mats for the job... or do I? That orange circle just won't complete and I'm out with one nanomillimetre to go. Aaaargh , said I. Or words to that effect.

It does that, sometimes :( It's just that the last few whatevers of a percent can take a good number of "rolls" to complete. Sometimes, the engineering you've already completed is "good enough" though; you might take a look at the stats you have and compare it to the ideal, then ponder if it is really worth throwing some of the rarer mats at it...

If you don't do that last little bit, it's all pointless!:p

I mustard mitt, I couldn't leave it hanging there myself... :D

I like to complete them as long as it is at the G5 level, but if it involves some mat that I am short of I will check to see if there is any significant discrepancy between current and target properties and let it ride if there isn't, if it is below G5 I always start the next level as soon as it is available.

Currently I am doing that sort of thing with Mr Cheung (sp?) and the shields of various ships, just wish the station was in geostationary orbit.

Ah, good old Trader's Rest.
I do like visiting Mr. Cheung, and it's a nice planet to drive about. (I'm no fan of the SRV).
