Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

@Alec Turner

Thanks! :)

I noticed your banner. Could you recommend a good canyon planet? I found one in one of Yamicks' videos about places to go, but that had canyons that were very wide. I'm more looking for the tight twisty ones?

I'm more of an SRV driver than a canyon flyer so, although I have some interesting places listed over here ..

A-guide-to-good-base-jumping-locations

.. (include amazing ridged planets like Pomeche 2C and Synuefe VM-D C15-10), I'm not sure I have any specific recommendations for narrow canyons suited specifically to exciting ship flying.

@Alec Turner

Thanks. The one I've tried is Pomeche 2C. It might be that I just picked a canyon that was too large. The one I was in was several kilometers deep. It took ages to get from one bend to the next, and the bends were very easy to get through without hitting any walls. I'll give Synuefe VM-D C15-10 a go later.

If you have the Sol permit, Ariel is really nice with the added bonus of a thick fog filling the canyons.

edit: think fog? Gee, thanks, autocorrect. So that's what I was having...

LOL.Once again i detect a certain similarity of style.:D

Hehe.. Yep, between all the things I've tried in ED and all the ships I've flown, nothing beats taking the Mamba for a spin. It's like putting on an old pair of shoes. Just feels right, and as a bonus it offers great photo ops. (Not the shoes).

Today, if my back hold up after going to the remodel house and working, I'm planning on finishing up my search and rescue ship and flying to a damaged station to help evacuate trapped citizens and take them to the big rescue ship. Gotta stop along the way to grab another size 5 economy passenger cabin since my home port does not sell them. Probably bump up the big motors too. No A rated in the size I need at home port either. Should be fun as long as I'm not wincing in pain. Jeeze I hate back problems but I guess it's my reward for hard work all my life and then growing old.

WOOHOOOO!

Them opals are mighty profitable once you get the hang of it [up] I did 58.000.000 in my first non-training trip. I think it took me a couple of hours.

You need many thingies mounted on your ship though! No room for a docking computer, but after maneuvering an asteroid belt landing becomes a walk in the park. Also on the ASPX (and other ships i guess), you have to sacrifice cargo space if you want to bring a fuel scoop, and who doesn't want that? Then you can mine as much as you want away from the bloody pirates.

Be patient while trying to find a good icy ring. I found one after 3 or 4 jumps, and it was stuffed [money]

The frosty windows and cracking sounds just add to the experience:

The thing is once you know where you are going it is often possible to set things up so that where you are mining is well within the round trip range of your ship, after you have confirmed that you store the scoop and add more cargo space. This works well with long jumping ships like the AspX.

..and this is how they do it.
Thanks to the excellent advice, I am already halfway back to where i left off my trip.In the end,i decided to keep the scarab and lose the shields,trading them in for hull repair.

True, but bring a fuel scoop ;)

I spent an evening in a quiet corner of the galaxy having peace of mind to figure out how to do this. Still I came home safe and with more $$$ than any trip along the road 2 riches, and this is actually a lot more fun, than having to copy paste with a VR headset on and off. Here you can shoot at stuff without them shooting back or getting a bounty on your head, and it's great practice for maneuvering in tight places (bring a shield).

One could get the thought that this is FDev's way of tricking explorers and other "peace loving wimps" into realizing, that once you can handle you ship and know how to hit something, you don't have to capitulate to any teenager in an adder, just because he thinks he's Captain Sparrow.

I learnt A New Thing today. A bit of a teeth gnasher but I suppose it's all part of the learning curve.

I wanted to engineer my pulse lasers. Off I went to the Dweller with whom I have G5 access and duly pinned the focused blueprint. Went back home and called the ship I wanted to upgrade.

Went into the remote engineering and ... wha??? Crippens. I wanted to apply the upgrade to a 2G mount but the blueprint I'd pinned was for a 1F. That wasn't obvious to me so that's something I need to take into account next time. Not a long trip but slightly irksome.

No, that doesn't sound right Tyres.:S

Actually yes that is quite correct - the recipe for a fixed cannot be applied to a gimbal or to a turret, similarly for any combination. So pin for the type of weapon; fixed, gimbal or turret that you will want to remotely engineer.

Ahhh!!! What about size? Does one blueprint apply to small, medium, large etc. or doesn't that facet matter?

Did not know that! I think I've missed it because quite often for weapons, I just visit the engineers anyway.

Not important - from small to huge all can use the same pinned blueprint - it is just the type F, G or T that is restrictive.

I have never noticed that but then I don't change weapon mounts that often.

The thing I have noticed is the grade of blueprint you are on at the engineers when you select the pin option is the maximum you can engineer remotely, I make a point of making sure that I have selected G5 before pinning even if I can't yet get beyond G1.
