Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Lies! Filthy lies!
He helps the recovered folk back to full health and offers them an engineering apprenticeship out in Colonia.
Shame on you all. :ROFLMAO:

The rumour I heard (just started) was that he was collecting crew and passengers for a freezer ship to explore/colonise Andromeda

So, I've had this NPC crewmember for a while. Hired her as Harmless. Now she's up to Expert. During combat I always bring her out and let her fly around shooting wildly. I've never seen her really do anything effective.

But today, for the first time, she drew aggro from the Corvette I was fighting (assassination mission). Usually when I fight another Corvette it's just a slugfest, nose to nose, toughest ship wins. But this time, the enemy Corvette focused on my fighter, and wound up spinning end over end in front of me as I shot the big guns at it. I found it most amusing. I don't think he ever hit her once. He didn't turn his fire upon my mothership until his shields went down.

Yeah. That was fun :)

Wait until she's Deadly or Elite. The things they can do are sometimes really amazing. I gave mine a fixed beam Imp fighter and we easily take on wings of three ships. She's able to kill both Viper escorts while I'm still struggling with the Python's shields
Their skill really increases as they rank up.
And yes, they tend to get hit really rarely against bigger ships. I think it was around that Expert/Master rank of my pilot when I realized she's probably a better SLF pilot than I am. :)

SLF?
On my PS4 account I built a railgun/PA Vette and let my NPC have a go in it.

Made my piloting skills look shocking. :D

Once I get Elite combat on PC I'll def use them again.

Oh yeah. They do handle big ships well. I wouldn't really trust her when I'm in something like Krait, because she could be dead before I managed to switch back to helm.
And they do seem to like the hit-scan weapons. :)

Having passed the Lagoon nebula, I'm now pretty committed to my Colonia expedition. Stopping off at this rusty coloured 1g world to pick up a little vanadium and germanium because I've not landed anywhere for a couple of days and I just wanted to drive around.

Is it me, or are the stars already a little brighter than around the bubble?

(New community goal is exactly the other direction to me. If it had popped up a week ago I'd have been all over it, but with the threat of an early ending if many players do it and a 6kly trip there, I'm really not inclined to care enough...)

RE: star brightness.
It's not really about being in bubble or not, but rather about the resident star, how bright it is and how far away from the panet it is. The further you go from the star, the less it washes out the sky box.
There is another (even more amazing, imo) thing about going to Colonia, though. The stars get denser as you progress towards the centre of the galaxy, and at around half way point between the bubble and Colonia, this becomes very apparent. There are a hundred times more stars on the sky when you reach the core. It's an amazing view.

Some planets, although they have no atmosphere, outgas quite strongly. If your planet is outgassing, I'd recommend finding a place there the mist can gather. Deep crater or a canyon, maybe. Sometimes the mist there can be really thick. It's great fun to zoom around in it.
As for the high-g planets, yeah, practice is a good idea. Plus I love how the SRV handles under higher gravity. If you find something with 4-5g, it's like an F1 car. No skidding in sliding, just pure downforce. :D

Found a 2g world with rings. It's kind of... monochrome, but I wanted to get a little landing practise in on the bigger buddies. Not even a scratch :)

Taking my SRV out, I find the surface is a little misty. Suspicious on a vacuum world :p

I have noticed mist at the sites of Thargoid activity and at Guardian sites, so you could be right to be suspicious.

I've been hammering it down the highway and today i crossed the halfway point to my destination, relatively intact.Running through AFMU refills at an alarming rate, but it seems to me that when the FSD drops to 80%,malfunctions become more frequent.
So i found a nice low G planet with features to put in for repairs.
Yaaargh! 47 geological sites to choose from and i had to pick that one.Spent a frustrating twenty minutes in the buggy trying to reach stuff halfway up the wall in a corrugated canyon, only to discover my bins are full. After a further 10 minutes or so of impersonating a drunken turtle with delusions of spiderhood, i gave up and bedded down for the night. At least there's hot water. :giggle:

That is so frustrating, I found that where it was possible to spot the crystals partway up the precipice even if I couldn’t target them it was possible to shoot them free using the turret and quite a few of them would fall down to where it was merely difficult at worst to climb up to scan range. Much better than spending ages burning out the engine and tyres trying to climb the cliff only to end up tumbling back down and end up with no clue where you are, I was just glad I don’t have VR during those tumbles.

Talking of star brightness, it may just be .y imagination, but the update to the engine last December seemed to improve their "look". I can't quite put my finger on what it actually is though.

Well, could be that they are now a source of light.

(I mean seriously, they are now the system's source of light, whereas before they were an illuminated texture. :))
