Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Alec had a video some time ago of himself in an SRV at a site where a Thargoid was attacking the base. He was trying to jump his SRV up onto the Thargoid. It was quite amusing. I never did get out to that site to see the place, though. Maybe it was the same one.

So, this happened:

And my crewmate is already 40% through Master on her way to Dangerous as well. She learns faster than I do. She is a strange person. She never laughs. She is always serious about everything. But she makes me laugh. My favorite is when she flies right through my line a fire and then tells me to "Stop it!".

Her name is Denise Odom, but...that last name always translates into Doom for me, because same letters. Denise Doom, that's what I call her.

She'll be Elite long before me. But I'm making progress.

In fact...as soon as I got the promotion notice, even though she is 22,0000LY away, Lori Jameson sent me a message inviting me to her place. Funny, she never took any notice of me when I was living right in the same system as her, but now...somehow...she immediately knows who I am and what I've done way out in Colonia!

The Galaxy is an amazing place, eh? :p

Concluding my part in the Distant Worlds 2 Expedition, about 5000 LY from Beagle Point, appr 100 jumps to go, so i will surely be there within the deadline.
And then I will follow Cpt Janeway's trail back to Sol.
Once I am back, I am contemplating about changing my FSD5-engineered Krait Phantom with full mining and space tourism/exploration equipment (now about 63 ly max), with better thrusters and a better power capacitor for quicker and better handling in flight over planetary surfaces, for I love to do that...in about 100 m height. I know this will add weight and thus shorten my jump range, but 63 is a good maximum to start from.
Well, first I will have to get to Beagle Point...

Trying to unlock the Dweller i was looking for some illegal cargo. I don't want to haul slaves, and I don't like landmines. Narcotics...? I can live with that I thought and went to buy some. Looked up an outpost with a black market and blasted off, but once there they wouldn't buy my stash? In the system narcotics was legal. What's the probability of that? :D

Btw. I use a Hauler with G5 Dirty Drag engineered Enhanced Performance Thrusters . It's a nimble little ship. I read and heard that auto docking was too slow when smugling, but at outposts the DC can land quicker than I can.

Anyone who knows what happens if you get scanned. Apart from the fine, do they confiscate the goods?

When hauling illegal passengers, I like to get reasonably close and lined up to the slot, pop a heat sink and hit the DC. If a scan is initiated before I'll clear the slot I engage engines and pop another heat sink, but this happens RARELY.

Don't know what happens if they catch you....I surmised I would be blown up by the 'gate' lasers lol.

Yes! Yes! This! ^^^
My Python 'Robigo Runner' has four heatsink launchers for this stuff.
Works a treat.
Also good for avoiding interdiction as you can loiter in a star's corona while the silly NPCs crash into the sun. :D(y)

:D The things this games forces you into...

From what I've read, with illegal passengers the punishment is severe. Instant bounty and the risk of being blown up by the station, but with illegal goods it seems that the only punishment is a fine. Not that dangerous, but before anyone break bad: The selling price of narcotics is ridiculously low. I lost money on that adventure. Now it's Dwella time. Need a G5 distributor on my new Corvette. Currently it's outfitted with two huge effective beams and a shield. That's all you need in this Universe :)

I followed this guide. Take on delivery missions, then abandon them when docked at another station with a black market. Cargo instantly becomes "stolen" and you can sell it at the black market with no risk, just the fine for abandoning the mission, which are no big deal.

I really suck at combat. I tried to take on a pirate massacre mission in my Corvette, and I got creamed again. I can't kill anything in this ship. IDK what I'm doing wrong, but I cannot seem to get the hang of combat in this game.

What engineering?
Be careful what missions you take on, look at the rank recommendations on the mission page.
