Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Today's ED episodes have all been about the sinuous tubers. Made the crossing to the twinned moon, which had much rougher terrain than the first so the first bio site was unlandable. Hopped over to the next one and found a landing spot... and a new kind of sinuous tuber! After admiring my codex entry for a moment, I set about cleaning up the mats - got my first polonium, and maxed out another couple of types. Thought about trying another site, but instead decided to continue along my planned route.

Next system, found another tiny moon with a third kind of tuber for another codex entry. After failing to find any for months, I find three types in a couple of hours o_O. They do seem to have a taste for awkward habitats though; the site I chose had them scattered over the sides of a deep crater.

Having accomplished the primary goal of this trip, the question is what next? Find another goal, I guess.

Bought a Mamba...
It grows on you. Apart from the beauty and the cockpit, it slowly becomes strangely attractive, and not only for combat where other ships actually do a better job. I got that feeling after having my Mamba for a while, named her "Verity" in honor of Verity, and stupidly promised her that one day we would go and see Sag A* together. When I finally decided to go, I had ships with much better jump range, but a promise is a promise. When we got there it was pretty emotional.

Yesterday I'd left home to go and see the edge of the galaxy. This time in a Python. Got out of the Bubble, but now I'm heading back to pick up Verity instead. She's that special ;)

Btw. This evening I went to see Brian Cox roadshow about cosmology. For the show he had visual effects showing what a black hole looks like, made by the team that made the black hole in the movie Interstellar together with Kip Thorne. Very impressive! That made me think about someone who said or wrote that the black holes in ED didn't simulate them well. Apart from the black shadow in the middle missing, I would say that Fdev did a pretty good job on the lensing and the Einstein Ring. It looks very much like the one I saw tonight. (y)

Well it would have to grow on me a heck of a lot before I'd ever travel that far in it! Congrats to you, though, that's quite a feat.

Well, a few jumps later and...

See what I mean about awkward habitats? These were the easy ones, on top of a mountain. Makes it a pain to collect the mats. On which subject, I've decided my next goal...

Despite the fact that I've filled a few mats bins, I now see that there are three or four that are completely empty, like lead!?! So before I head back to Colonia, I'm going to try and stock up a bit. Onwards and outwards, commanders!

You should listen to Sonic Seasonings by Wendy Carlos at Sag A*.

I did. It was freaky.

Im trying to find stations with L pads so that i can use my Imperial Clipper more :/ For like bounty and other shoot fun and Maybe and just Maybe some Tiny exploring.. but that wont happend since i Need L pads to land on..
I wish there was option to set that as filter on the map, so only stations with L pads would be seen.

I don't think there is a filter for that, but knowing whether the station has a large pad is really easy.
Planetary bases - always have large pads.
Space stations (big rotating cuboids and cylinders) - always have large pads
Space outposts (non-rotating small installations) - never have large pads

There is no type of station/base that sometimes has large pads and sometimes doesn't. The number of pads will vary but the availability will not.

Wasn't there a livestream (or did I dream it?) about the in-game black holes and how close the modelling is to current scientific understanding? Frankly it could have been a thread, an off the cuff comment or an episode of Horizon. I've engulfed myself in anything to do with Physics, Space (or old and cheap sci-fi) since taking up this game but my brain went 🤯 very early on, so what was said when and where is hazy at best.

Roughly 12 years ago (+/-) I started reading the article on Wikipedia about black holes. I got to the third or fourth word before it was a word i didn't understand, so I looked it up, and then jumped back to the black holes. I continued stubbornly that way for months until I understood everything that the wiki article told about black holes, and I still find them the most mysterious thing in the Universe.

The method was great though. I started saving pages of interesting subjects I stumbled upon while reading other pages, and ended up not having yet read about philosophy of science and linguistics. I had skimmed all the other academic disciplines. Then I quit my job and applied at the university at an age of 50+. I must also admit that studying anything I found interesting led to an overall understanding of what we call reality that somewhat resembles taking the red pill in Matrix. No free lunch ;)

Yeah. It has only two downsides. It looks and flies like crap.

The Python reminds me of one of my favorite planes from my childhood:

Draken is, indeed, one of the most awesome jets of the Cold War era and one of my favourites as well.
...I don't see the connection with the python, though.
If you compared it with a Vulture, for example - fast, extremely agile, with limited, but powerful armament - I would see that.
I think it's the outline of the wings and the hull, the color, the black nose tip, the air intakes, ... :)

The Python I use for mining is pretty agile and reasonably fast. The Vulture is more like:
