Already 1kly's out and it feels lonely out here. Now I know why it's called "the black"... the stars are thinning. But I can see Colonia in the far distance. Haven't encountered unexplored systems yet. Hope you're all well.

EDIT

Additional: just found a virgin, untagged system with every type of planet/moon etc. except an ammonia world. How big was it? My record so far: 83 bodies!

The black is not for me :( I don't know how you guys spend so much time "away" from the bubble - it was far too isolating and I felt... out of touch. So, I'm back in Shinrata and have just handed in my carto data which amounted to a paltry 14mCR. Embarrassing

so far the furthest out I've gone was Colonia and that was enough exploring for me. took 2 weeks out and 2 weeks back, made 200mil in exploration data.

Just arrived back in Colonia after visiting Sag A*.Took me about a week and made 85 million on carto data which is more than i expected.I was helped by running into a couple of large systems (one at 60 planetary bodies, the other 88) and mapped a fair bit of the highway. To me it feels like the galaxy is shrinking.

No no, good choice ToF and please, not embarrassing at all!

"Why good choice?" I hear a drunk crowd chanting. ;)

Serious mode on
. - I lived remote, very remote, and that is not for everyone apparently. I've seen people coming and going, all hyped up at first (as long as the weather is shiny and warm), and back on their way into urban life quicker than they came. I've seen people trying hard to stay, taking mild anti depressants to cope (It ain't a coping strategy from where I am standing!), later got red arsed too often, or much worse, a few lasted a second year, most went back, of those lasting a second year, >95% went back the following. I've seen people developing strange (harmless) behaviour who lived longer than I remote, all kinda weired stuff. No, it is not for everyone, and the quicker one realises whether it is for him or not, the better. - Serious mode off.

...Pulls a cask-strength Glenfarclass and two glasses out of nowhere....
THE END.

After about 4 weeks, I made it from Colonia to Explorers Anchorage
Near SAG A, cashed in about 400m and now heading towards Beagle Point via The Roncevaux Crossing. I really contemplated heading back to the bubble before heading out. My initial plan was to just head out to Colonia and back so I could earn some cash for a cutter, but since I was so close to Sag A, headed there, and now I find myself 1/2 way to Beagle so I may as well push ahead and cross that off the bucket list as well! It’s gonna be a long strange trip.

I know people have had all kind of explorer goals, but have anyone tried to circumvent the galaxy? Basically go "around" it as far out as possible? I know there's no discrete edge to follow, but I think you understand what I mean.

I believe there are commanders out there now who are still doing it.We should hear from some of them in the next few decades. The galaxy is, after all, a very big place.
In the meantime technology has advanced,so someone who set off in 3001 in an A-rated sidewinder is probably still enroute to the first waypoint. Whoever and wherever you are, commanders,we salute you. 07.

Well done on surviving your trip into the black,Tyres.First time out can be quite daunting,i think like any other discipline you have to start small and work your way up at your own pace. The sense of 'isolation' takes a bit of getting used to, but as you have shown, the experience is survivable.

and the views are worth it. :)

@ToF

The furthest I went was Sag A* in the Mamba :D I must admit that it became pretty clear to me, that most stars are "the same", except the color and the size, and in the Mamba you get to see quite a few of them on the way. It was about as interesting as the German autobahn. I put on an audiobook and scoopjumped along to that on my internal second nature autopilot.

However, the last exploring expeditions I went on were much shorter and more interesting. There are other thingies in the galaxy than just stars and scooping, especially now that I'm a rich son af a gun, and don't need the cash from the data.

I think you mean "circumnavigate", and yes, there have been many such folks, and even some events (there was a Sidewinder challenge some time ago).

Here's just one I found by searching the forums: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/galactic-circumnavigation-a-travel-log.365677/

You mentioned Donegal in passing in one of your earlier posts... You didn't live on Tory Island for a while, did you?

I'm one of those strange people that would positively relish being out somewhere remote. As long as there was some electricity, occasionally :)

Some years ago I was going to up-sticks and head home to Scotland but my offspring raised merry hell with me since there is at least 3.5 hours ferry trip (longer from Oban) to South Uist and I caved-in and stayed here in deepest Yorkshire. (I should have gone really. {sadface} )

Yeah, I'll go with you too :)

Not going to Benbecula, by any chance? The airstrip there is quite entertaining :)

Edit: Actually.. I'm thinking of Barra... the one you can only land on when the tide is out :D
