Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

You're taking the red pills. That's a mistake I can warn against doing. Take the blue pills instead, and if you chose the red pills, don't eat all of them at once. That's what I did. Emptied the whole glass of red pills down the throat. Now, I mostly meet people telling me that what I say is probably true, but it's too depressing to contemplate, "...so shut the beep up". You'll be much more happy staying ignorant, for as long as it lasts ;)
Too late, got the red pills with mothers milk already.

I was playing a bit of No Man's Sky and thinking about the New Era release of Elite Dangerous that's scheduled for late this year. Combining ED's graphics and space flight with some atmospheric flight and the ability to roam around outside the ship on foot...I have to admit it would be cool.

Imagine something like this (only better and more real-looking), with a Krait or Asp flying.

I don't know what the New Era will bring, but I can dream, right?
I bought NMS when it was brand new, and back then I kind of liked it, even though much of what was promised was a lie. With regular intervals, I've been playing 3D space simulations since Elite on C64 and later Wing Commander on PC, and NMS was not as bad as people said. We've come a long way! Then I switched from PS4 to PC, got VR and EVE:Valkyrie and lost interest in NMS, thinking it was all the same if the company behind it went underground and the updates didn't materialize.

Next I moved to ED. Still think that this is unmatched by any other game I've played, but I must admit that the addition of VR to NMS has made me reconsider, whether I should take the risk and rebuy it for PC (once bitten...). Not a big issue at the moment, since I still need to do a lot of work in ED to get prepared for the trip to Beagle Point (and beyond...;)).

Gimbbly Denis is surviving in High intensity combat zones, 40% master, sometimes with help sometimes not.

These Faragut class ships can help, but on the right my weapons do no damage to heat relays. I will be leaving them alone mostly.

So, I am wondering. We have the whole galaxy, ED. We have land able planets with infrastructure. Then there is planet zoo, animals and infrastructure. Jurassic with exotic animals. So, soon tying these three together would mean, depending on planet type. you could land at an earth like planet into an instance variation of planet zoo or Jurassic. Which would only need to be constructed for a small area excursion , like in an SRV around SSG's and SSB's. Free walking in a suit or not depending on atmosphere types..?

Goal:
While second round of Power play clock ticks, this time Pacifiers, my goal is to get all of it. Complete. Total. Everyfeckinsinglemat. Tutti Completti.
Status:
Nearly there... in Elite terms... nearly.
Method:
Running a mix of HGE's as per Exigius Quit game method,( It is more efficient than Dav's Hope) crash site, and bugkiller for rare raws.

Once they are all filled up, I keep track of them so once certain mats go below a threshold I fill them up again right away to always maintain maximum engineering capabilities.

That being said, suggested a Materials Alert System:

Crossed into Cygnus Orion arm last night still heading roughly south west along the galactic plane, so star density isn't a problem. One unfortunate encounter with a planetary surface, should have checked the gravity before i landed. But tiny orange numbers dont show up too well against a rusty background.(Now, there's a QOL feature begging for some love! But,yeah, i know, Git Gud.LOL. Ain't never gonna happen.)
Once i'd stabilised the ship i took her up 30m and deployed the hrp and hovered whilst the hull slowly came back up to strength, meanwhile starting the AFMU.
When the limpets ran out ,i decided to find a suitable landing site whilst synthesising more, promptly wiping off half of the repairs i had already effected.
It was at this point i actually checked the gravitational status of the planetary body; (3.4 g), not mahoosive perhaps but enough to create some sizable dents at the slightest twitch of the stick.
Now fully awake, i took her up to a safe working distance and finished hull repairs before very carefully setting down on a flat patch close to the fumeroles i had come to scan and deploying the scarab.
Figuring the planet at least owed me some mats for my limpets, scan completed,i went off in search of the good stuff. Oh,the universe is so cruel.Of iron and nickel not a scrap was to be found!
Dispirited and dejected i hauled my weary body back into my seat, and hurled myself once more at the stars.
Some days, nothing seems to go right.

Hmm. I was under the impression PI's were only from HGE's in an outbreak system. Just found some where it was in a state of civil unrest. In any case... PI's! \o/

I spent more time in a low intensity combat zone again. I was doing OK until I got tangled up with a Vulture and a Cobra that decided to gang up on me. Plus the Vulture was spamming chaff like mad, negating the effectiveness of gimballed weapons. Even breaking lock and using my weapons in dumb fire mode was a challenge as this particular NPC was very good at keeping out of my fire zone. He also was using PA's that were hammering my shields pretty hard. I ended up having to bug out before the battle was over, but I still collected 199K worth of combat bonds.

This below is a screenshot from Exigious.

However I too found totally different mats in the locations and struggle to find Mititary Grade and others at all. Nearly every system I visited today had proto light and proto radiologic alloys.

Visited seven war civil war systems today to look for military, zero. As it is, it seems to be a hit and miss thing. I also often scanned the NB only to find no HGE. If I found one however with 30 minutes on the clock, it is worth it big times. That being said, G5 to G5 at 6:1 is painful, hence I try again to find Military....

hmmm... from what I've read so far, from all the mats Military Supercapacitors, Military Grade Alloys and Improvised Components seem to be hard or next to impossible to track down in HGE. I give it a few more shots, but after visiting 20 systems with the required state I leave it at that and trade instead.

Lately, I've somehow been able to trade the mats I scavenge while bounty hunting etc. which takes away the "grind", make the "narrative" more "fluid", and it feels a lot better trading G3 or G4 mats.

Out here in outer space, my 6A FSD for the Conda has finally arrived at the mail office at Jaques. Been slightly lazy the last couple of days, so now it's time to go and get the final things I need, before setting off towards infinity.
