Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

........
Visited seven war civil war systems today to look for military, zero. As it is, it seems to be a hit and miss thing. I also often scanned the NB only to find no HGE. If I found one however with 30 minutes on the clock, it is worth it big times. That being said, G5 to G5 at 6:1 is painful, hence I try again to find Military....
.............
Yeah, but I need G5 mats, 1,2,3, and 4 are filled up already. :) Btw. what is the story with the empty "G5?" fields in raw mats?

1. Remember it is the state of the actual instance, not the state of the system. My tip for getting PI and MS is to go to Imp systems and fill up with Imp Shielding - common as muck - then trade.

2. When they re-vamped the materials on introducing the new raw (element) materials that are asteroid-mined only, they reshuffled stuff and eliminated grade 5. You will find that some of the G4 stuff that used to be G5 still shows with the 5 bars in the little graphic in your inventory - a display bug.

Remember it is the state of the actual instance, not the state of the system.

Not sure what you mean by "instance". To my undestanding the faction state is deciding factor.

Well, perhaps I am doing it wrong. I always use eddbi to navigate around. I choose Allegiance, Faction State, and my reference system. Something wrong here?

As I said, yesterday, I jumped with this method to many systems, none of them had HGE with that military stuff or improvised components in the repective states. Often they do not have any HGE at all. So, for me it was hit and miss.

The system's controlling faction may be in the state you require, but...
The HGE may 'belong' to one of the other factions within the system, which may be in a different state.

Hmm, I think I slowly start to understand. This must be related to the clock running and stating for exmaple "Pixel Bandit Brothers" etc. so this is the faction the HGE belongs to of course.

To be able to find military, the HGE has to belong to the faction that is at war!

I think, from memory, this can be checked on the right hand panel / status, right?. So, that
means in practise, you target a HGE, fly towards, wait until it shows the clock and faction, then check in your right panel if the state of the faction is the right one, if not, you will get some materials, but not the one you're looking for, kinda laborious procedure.

Thanks!

When you have a HGE targeted, look at top right of your HUD.
Lists Faction, State and time remaining.

When I'm hunting HGEs, I pick a system, drop in, honk (habit), scan Nav Beacon to resolve all USS.
Jump back into Supercruise.
Clear all filters on Nav panel except Signal Sources.
Scroll through to check for HGEs.
Select/target HGE, then look at top right of HUD to check the info.

Thanks, yes that's how I understand it now. But one more step is required, is it not? You don't see the state of the faction in the upper right, for that you have to go to your right panel, status and check on the faction displayed to know whether faction is at war.

I guess though, military is so very rare, it may make sense what Para suggested, bite the bullet and trade 6:1, just like I did with crash site.

The point being that when you target each of the HGE SS revealed by the Nav Beacon or by FSSing - the faction state of that instance is shown in the info panel in the top right of your HUD. No need to sift through the faction reports in the Internal UI panel - just cycle through each HGE in the system.

Replying to an earlier post: The instance is that place you drop into at the HGE - you come out of supercruise into a game-generated instance in normal space.

More generally an instance:

Thanks again Para. It's just my second day ever that I did the HGE thing. Can be confusing. Saw the video for collecting at mega ships, but that is even more so laborious, nice to try th gameplay a few times, but for serious farming rather not.

Must pay better attention to that Info panel, somehow, I never realised that the state is shown there too.....there ya go, I always thought instances apply only for multiplayer games.... I am solo .... dog fed and snoring...now starting xbox.... ;)

FA OFF: To whom it may concern.

Besides maxing out materials and grabbing power play modules, my third goal this year is FA off...

Ah yes. Also one of my good intentions. The flight model that assumes you are generating lift from wings and drag from atmosphere is common in sci fi films and makes the thing easier to fly. To get a true feeling of spaceflight one needs to master FA off. As a keyboard and mouse player... I'm not sure it's possible.

found this to be quite good to watch
Stop watching; start doing.

The trick to FA-off is muscle memory. You literally can't build up muscle memory from watching videos, regardless of how good they are.

I can't recall if that video talks about countering rotation. If it doesn't, it should.

Practising docking is a really good way to learn to counter rotation - if you can't
do it, you can't land.

By the way, I found larger ships to be better initially - you have more time to think about the counters which helps you automatise the actions more easily.

As a relaxing start to my ED day, I decided to do the Dav's thing. I'm not sure why, but I just love doing that circuit. After a while (and 20 chemical manipulators later \o/), I took a break and looked at the Conda I'd landed in. Maybe it's just me, but, when viewed from outside, it just doesn't feel like a big ship - although it handles like a blue whale in the desert.

So, I thought I'd do a quick size comparison to the surrounding abandoned prefabs.

It is quite big really, isn't it?

Cooking Friday :) Lentils stew.

17 Liter stainless steel pot.
7 Kg beef with bones, different superb cuts.
1Kg bacon cubes
8 Liter water, black Malabar pepper, white Kampot pepper, pimento, cloves in a tea egg, laurel leaves.
Two large onions, slize in half, on medium heat in a stainless steel pan without oil until brown to black. Add bacon and brown, add little water and render.
Whack it all into pot
Start from cold, bruing to cook, 3 hours simmer on low.
When meat tender and bones cooked out, slize and dize meat, put aside.

Add 2.5 kg brown lentils to broth, simmer 30 minutes

Approx. 10 Kg (before peeling)Carrots, parsley root, celery, leak, potato all cut to small cubes, - Yes, its a grind!!! LOL - three tins Pomodorino D'oro tomatoes, add and simmer another 40 minutes.

Add high quality apple vinegar, Dijon mustard, freshly chooped parsley, marjoram, salt, pepper & a little sugar to taste.

Serve in a deep large bowl with a large Wiener sausage, a cold Pilsner Urquell compliments it well. "Sticks to the ribs" food in cold and wet weather.
Forgot to say. Eat next day, not same day!! Seriously!

this dude knows.

too bad i don't eat meat anymore. but i could make an exception with this. 😅

try complementing it with a couple pickled chillyi peppers to bite off now and then. and bread (real bread). o_O

also, some heavy red wine instead of the plisner. but ... 🤷‍♂️
