As I gear up for a lot of jumping tonght, what’s the view on the best way to do 170 jumps on the Palin trek - Jump/Honk/Jump? Or Jump/Honk/FSS/(optional DSS for ELW/WW)/Jump?
By my verrrry rough estimate the latter may yield an awful lot more Cr value, but would probably take at least five times as long... how have other Commanders approached the P-Trek?
Roughly speaking, each jump, takes around one minute. You engaged the FSD, it fires up, you're off, You land in the new system, whilst navigating around the local star, hopefully scooping some fuel, you're doing the 'honk'. Scooping done, honk done, temperature down enough to make the next jump, the whole thing, about a minute. Feasibly at that rate, you could do around 20 jumps in just over 20mins (some jumps will be a bit longer, maybe you have to scoop fuel at this star a bit longer because the previous one and the next one are not scoop-able. At that frantic rate, you could cover 170 jumps in a little over 3 hours.
You could stop in every system, scan everything, map the valuables, get out of there. This, as you note will considerably add to your journey time.
I guess I would do a thorough journey out. That would include FSS'ing every system (otherwise how are you going to find those ELW's?), I would also suggest that you're doing this trek to unlock an engineer. What are you going to need after that? Mats. So maybe mappings a few of the planets that show geological sites in the FSS, drop down in the SRV, collect a bunch. Be right annoying to find out you unlocked the engineer but now need something else. Best to have bins prepared. You could then jump honk your way home in just over 3 hours or so. You'd have some mats and plenty of UC data to cash in.
You could, as others have suggested, (I have just noticed as writing this) mix this method up. Maybe jump honk a few then do thorough scans on others.
I think, as also suggested above, you'll find out what you have the stomach for as you go along. The only advantage in going thorough for a while is, it is possible that when you get back in the Bubble, you might not want to undertake such a trek again in a long time. So maybe set aside a couple of weeks to do a thorough job this once, buff your bins and wallet and you won't have to do such a trek again for a while.
Either way, best of luck!
