Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I don't (yet) know what an NHSS is

Today I've just been doing my exploration thing, and I made my first discovery of a Biological site in this area. I figured it would just be Bark Mounds, but no, it was Roseum Bioluminescent Anemones.

Space Pumpkins, with cool sparkling lights on the sides. They also make an eerie sound.

I made a short video of them, because pictures can't show any of that.

The planet was a terraformable HMC, too, so I even got paid for this (plus a new Codex entry for me).

And that's what I'm up to!

Okey dokey. So, for Thagoid Scouts, it seems pertinent to fit (a max of) four AX mutlicannons, some decontamination limpets and, to help, a xeno scanner. To find them, I'll need to FSS systems in the Witch Head nebula and Pleiades and find lower threat NHSSs to start me off.

So, the question is now, do I take the Mamba or the Cutter? I think I'll take the Cutter as it has more room for a couple of modules needed. It might not be the most nimble but it is more tanky.

Right... can AX MC's be engineered like standard MC's? Yes, it seems they can.

Asterope. Go to Asterope. Scan the nav-beacon, that’s generally going to be the fastest way.

Krait mk2. But between the Mamba and the Cutter, I would take the Cutter. As long as your AXMCs are turreted, agility won’t matter much.

No. Unless that changed recently. :p

I have just given up trying to give micro$oft £110 for their new flight sim - no matter what I try the transaction will not go through. I refuse to stick it on Steam - will the XBox sub thingie be any use and how long must I shell out until I cancel it - too many decisions, not enough coffee. (I blame the gas man that turned up at 07:40 to do my annual boiler maintenance - stupid time.)

Thanks!

I meant to say Corvette, not Cutter. I suspect the same applies though.

I must be seeing things... no, they can't, you're right.

EDIT Changed my mind - the Krait II does look a good choice so I've upgraded that. Off to Asterope later - wish me luck!

You'll need to check yourself, as M$ is only willing to deliver localized pages. Over here, it would be 1€ for the first month, 4€ (3.99) after that. But, unless you buy the upgrades through them, you'll only get the base version (IIRC, from a magazine review).

But, unless your objections also extend to Amazon, you can buy it from them at the same price.

The one thing that I found important to learn when I was fighting Scouts a while back was to avoid the corrosion cloud they create when they explode. Flying through it puts corrosive stuff on your ship every time, so then you have to deal with it. It's best to just not fly through those clouds.

Other than that, it was easy enough.

I just got too grossed out by splattering them all over. It's like smashing roaches. :)

You can engineer the Advanced Multi-cannon and via synthesis you can equip them with anti xeno ammunition and they don’t count as AX weapons so don’t count as part of the limit of four, they are only available in fixed and possibly only small.

I believe some people equip a Shield Cell Bank to help cook off corrosion.

Hoo yar! Asterope crawls! The only good bug is dead bug! Rico's Roughnecks, hwar! Who's top kick?

Etc.

This is quite fun although my combat rating hasn't moved yet but I am finding new mats.

Excellent link!

Two things - I hope you can turn off the "your own breathing" sound they purport to, and I hope my current rig can run the game coz some of that planetary stuff is... well... detailed gorgeousness.

No walking around in the ships shown so far. I'm kinda expecting it not to be in there. I think we'll just get a disembark animation or something like that, similar to SRV deploy.

That's not a deal-breaker for me. Being able to walk around my ship and explore planets is more important.

It all depends on what they do with it. What are the gameplay loops? What new abilities will we have? What's the new grind? Flora samples? :p

We shall see.

I think tonight's twitchy-thingie (18:00 UTC) will be more informative. The Braben and senior designer Darin Halil might produce more insights.
