Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Then I might build a stealth Cobra. That would give me more firepower than my Dolphin, and it just looks like a stealth ship (especially if I grab a midnight paint for it), and most importantly, its rebuy would be a tiny fraction of the overly expensive (and frankly not that effective) Mamba.

Whilst I'm not the most capable combat pilot out there, I thought the Mamba did quite well against 'goid scouts.

My problem isn't that the Mamba is "bad", but rather that much cheaper ships are just as good. I can destroy 'goid scouts all day long in a Vulture, for example. I've been in the top 50% of the last two combat zone CGs using a DOLPHIN. The one time I take my Mamba out, it gets toasted (a CMDR sniped my FSD), and the rebuy cost more than the reward I earned from the CG.

And then there's the fun factor. I have way more fun flying non-conventional builds like stealth ships or my nippy little Eagle, especially in VR. Combat in a Mamba is mostly just the same dance over and over and over again. I find it gets boring pretty quick, but that's just me.

What do you need to get the heat down to for stealth?
If you are talking in general, a G5 efficient class A power plant is the most important component, followed by class D or even E clean drives. Efficient engineering is a good choice when using lasers, though as soon as you start firing weapons, you lose the element of stealth for a period of time (there are ways to compensate for this, but this is a trade secret). And of course heat sinks, lots and lots of heat sinks.

Stealth ships are the one build where class E modules offer an advantage, assuming you can handle the nerf in performance. The key to staying cool is keeping power utilization low. In fact, I manage modules (on or off) the way most pilots manage pips.

Now a good pilot will have a few counters to stealth (one is really lame and I wish Frontier would fix it), but I'm not sharing my weaknesses!

Unfortunately I've had more than one noob combat log on me once they realized their gimbaled weapons were useless (this happened a lot when I was pirating Borann). However, there are other counters that will force me to either jump out or negotiate a truce. I can neither confirm nor deny what any of these counters may be.
Make him tell me the secrets, Tyres.

And I will fight to the death before I let anyone take my pixelated ship.
