Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Well, all those reviews and videos of how fun the T10 is, decided to have a go. Had Dirty Drives on remote so doesn't feel that sluggish. Because I engineered my other ships in bits and pieces as I went about unlocking, didnt realise what a pain it is to now have to run everywhere to get the experimentals and some other tweaks done. This fat hog burns thru the materials fast too!

Lovely paint job.

... I don’t care to think about owning a fleet of 36 and an FC to go with it, it would be rather daunting!
It's doable. But I had it easy because I bought my FC pre-nerf. It was relatively quite quick and easy to amass the 5bnCR. Now, it would take helluva lot longer.

37 different ships is a different kettle of fish. Getting the hulls isn't too bad: it's their loadouts. Which isn't something I'll be trying for anytime soon :D

And then there's engineering them... gah.

And trying for experimental on it all would have me screaming "pinkle squirmy plap plap plap" at a full moon whilst dancing around a mushroom ring naked with my derriere painted blue. Which would be so far into hideous, it'd be the other side.

Tanya Wu continues with the humanitarian work in Lave, occasionally taking a break to scav HGEs. She's doing Njiri Rescue Logistics proud, very impressed that she's got our name on the Hutton Helper board, 'Save Lave!'
Can tell she's not happy and missing the combat though. We shall see what happens on Thursday.

Right on Tanya, Looweewu would be proud of you. 🤠 (y)

I’m hoping you are familiar with Not The Nine O’Clock News and their “Devil Worshippers” interview, because that reminded me of :

”Every full moon, we go up to the heath at midnight, strip naked, and ravish each other until dawn”
”And this helps summon up the forces of evil, does it?”
”Who cares?!”

:)

I seem to recall that I had left off the drag drive experimental I wanted on my clipper, because it was just getting a bit silly. It goes like the proverbial off the digging implement anyway. Besides, I’m out in the black (again) with her, surveying HIP stars, and it doesn’t need to go that fast in normal space for that :)

I’m still catching up on stuff that happened whilst I was out 😅 The answer to which seems to be “quite a lot”...

I’ve just been reading about the re-balances. There are references to things like reducing mining payouts, increasing bounty payments, decreasing thargoid scout rank, etc. But I can’t seem to find an easy reference to what the changes actually were quantifiably, or a comprehensive list of the areas changed.

Does anyone have anything handy like that around?

Bounties have been increased fourfold typically via a server side fix which means that the price that flashes up on your HUD in blue is still the old value the value displayed in the Transaction tab is the true value.

Sorry no reference sheets that I know of.

Spent much of the past week rescuing desperate souls from Ito Orbital in Rhea. I started off in the Orca, since it is engineered to run frosty, and is very well-suited to these. But eventually I reconfigured my rumble bus Krait with econocabins, since it seats 18 more. Sad that my medium Krait seats more than my dedicated large-pad transport ship. But that's the price of luxury I suppose.

Between the Orca and the Krait I saved 4,300+ of these unfortunates. They seemed pleased. That's enough of this for a while haha. Delivered my 10,000th passenger in the process, and a shiny G2 Inara Captain's badge was the reward :)

On the mining front, as an example, the best price per painite I ever got was ~1mCR pre-nerf balance. Now, the best I've seen is ~400K. Prices fluctuate much quicker and the demand has a direct effect on the cash you'll get - if you have 100 to sell but the station only wants 50, the amount you'll get will be a lot less - I'm unsure of the actual percentage. I try to sell as much as I can up to the amount on demand.

At the moment, platinum is fairly stable, as is osmium, but again, the demand factor is in play.

Yes, the materials shortage is real :D I only own 9 ships, and getting engineered as I wanted them took “a while”. I don’t care to think about owning a fleet of 36 and an FC to go with it, it would be rather daunting!

With just the 9, they mostly evolved over time, and I didn’t notice the travelling about, or materials need. The exception was when I bought an FDL and Clipper in short order. Getting the FDL to where I wanted it took many evenings. Enjoyable, but lengthy, evenings :)
9 is a lot in my book! Before Fatso, I only had a fully engineered K2 and a long range hauling Conda with no need to engineer weapons/defences and a explorer/material Asp X again with no need for weapons/defences.

Lovely paint job.
Cheapest paint job I could find at the shop too! 600+ ARX.

(found one that wasn;t too far off where I was so paid a visit)

I do sometimes find it easy to forget where they all are 😅 At least one of them is kept for sentimental reasons, it being my starter Sidewinder, and more or less moth-balled.

Each of the others have a specific purpose, though, and have been built accordingly. I’m not sure about a need for any others at this point, other than maybe building an Orca rescue ship. Or possibly a Challenger, just for the experience

Sidewinder “Cinquanta”: Honourable discharge, museum and leisure flights only

Adder “Runabout”: Engineered for max jump range, decent thrusters. Cheap to summon anywhere in the bubble, and acts as my ship transfer taxi.

Viper Mk.III “Bodkin”: Enhanced thrusters, G5’d, Drag Drives. Stripped down. Goes like the clappers. Great for hooning around and generally enjoying flying.

Viper Mk.IV “Gwynt-y-Ddraig”: My initial combat ship. Very tooled up, highly manoeuvrable, and still one I go back to for some RES entertainment.

Cobra Mk.III “Daffodil”: Heavily armoured, yet fast, equipped for “naughty“ missions, with SRV, collector limpets, recon limpets, and so on. Great for getting in and out fast, and has rail guns to take out ground defences before they know what is happening :)

Python “Lumberjack”: Armed trader. I almost feel it’s OP, it has beautiful hard point convergence, can shift handily with engineering, carries 180t, and can happily take out pirates that try it on. Used for BGS work a lot.

Krait Mk.II “La Piuma al Vento”: Multi-role ship, I have a rake of modules at it’s home base that can turn it from an armed miner into a battlewagon, and also into a trader if needed. It’s a joy to fly this one!

FDL “Splinter”: CZ and assasin craft. For when you absolutely, positively have to...

Imperial Clipper “Dôl-y-Gwair”: Explorer. For when exploring in style, with great screen shot potential is in order. It’s nice to see the look on the peasant’s faces when I arrive at some far-flung asteroid base in it :)

Asp Explorer “Hecla”: The finest exploration ship in the ‘verse. Long range, long jumping, and engineered to the max, this one kept me safe in the black for 18 months. Gets used for long range trips where “poking about” at the edges with some tricky boosted jumps are required.

After returning to Explorers Anchorage and cashing in my data ( a tidy 1bn), i decided to take a few days off for some rest. Returning refreshed, i shipped out a dolphin and kitted it out for mining duties. Probably not the best choice, due to the lack of hardpoints, so no core mining or displacement missiles, but plenty of room for cargo and refinery. Took it out for the afternoon to see what it could do, but was rather disappointed on the yield. Things have certainly changed since i last went mining, LTD's paying less than Tritium per ton. It was a nice change of pace, but that's about all, as far as i am concerned, and my next trip out will be once again exploration. Star density is so high around the core that there are still plenty of undiscovered systems within easy reach of Sag A* so i may stay here for a little while longer before venturing out into the deep dark.

Sold some plat, bought some trit.

Hoisted Windle Poons from storage (a Dolphin) with a view to turning it into an experimental explorer. Seems I'd started along that road sometime back as it had a lot of D-rated modules already. Did some engineering, got the jump range to 47lys. Need some experimentals now to extend that - a trip to Fe then. After I fit a fuel scoop and SRV bay.

She'll be taking her maiden mission very soon I think.

Good work mate. I'm at 69% and honestly I want to slow down now. Ticking off goals means fewer goals to tick off. Gotta be careful I don't play my way out of motivation. I know most players won't worry about this. But Elite is a goal-oriented game for me any more. It is what keeps me going. Thank the gods for Inara, those badges are gold!

What am I up to? Always something or other. This weekend I bought and built out a new ship. For the four years I've been playing, off and on, I've largely ignored fixed weapons, FA-off, module targeting and weapons like rails and PAs. So I built a ship to change that and mix up my routine. As I said in a different thread, the addition of MFG Crosswinds to my setup has given my ship control ability a nice boost. This has made it easier to be effective with fixed weapons and it's fun to mix it up and adapt to something new.

This is the ship I built.

Beams and Rails Chieftain

Excellent agility, good speed, great protection with near ideal (for me) resists. Very nice overhead vis which I put a premium on. A collector and a rack to scoop the mats. Lots of fun and a ship very much unlike the others in my fleet. I had bought one when they first came out, but as an engineering neophyte at that stage the Chief was outperformed by my Vulture. So I sold it. But now I can build a proper one. Module-sniping is cool, I blew up a Python with two rail volleys. Gotta keep things fresh, and stepping outside my routine with a ship like this has done exactly that.
Lovely, and absolutely hear you and agree. Once I have cracked triple elite I am going to unlock prismatics, and after that I want the Alliance ship which can take a fighter hangar (have bought the hull, and the hangar!) and take my Brienne of Tarth-eque pilot out on an adventure. Then will find another squadron and sink back into squadron life, which keeps me interested and focussed on goals. So I entirely agree with you. Nice build on the Chieftain, thank you for sharing. Those ships are a lot of fun. FA-off is another imminent project.
Comp nav's... think I'll have see if I can find one. Never tried those before: hazres is fun but the combat rank rise is glacial.

I think I'm also going to try out a Dolphin and fit it for exploration - heard good things and I've never flown mine!
I'm doing the combat grind at one. Only taking elite and deadly ships. I put on 2% and make 10m in bounties per sortie before I need to head to the outpost to rearm. Has transformed my progress (87%!!)

You aren't wrong. If only I weren't addicted to buying ships. I have too many. Over 30. Maybe over 40. I love some, but can't justify others.

Tonight I visited some exotic stars around 400ly from Colonia. I came across my first S-Type, which was a bit underwhelming.
S-Type Star.jpg

I'm sure I've seen that before.
There were some Neutrons and White Dwarfs (of different types), which were much more worthwhile.
WD Star_01.jpg

WD Star_02.jpg

Weirdly, these are the first White Dwarfs I've come across in my 22kLy journey.
I decided that I would sell the Krait and Viper and hitch a ride back to the bubble on an FC that's passing through, King of the Road style!
Trailer for room or rent,
Rooms to let 50 cents,
Old worn out suit and shoes,
Don't pay no Union dues.
Old stogies I have found, short, but not too big and round...........
I need to get some engineering done and scavenge some gruanidan sites and then I'll be back.
It'll be like going to Tenby twice in a year.
