Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Could you tell me your experience, I have the same graphics card - might not be enough for Odyssey though.
I didn't buy Odessey, waiting for feedback from Cmdrs here.
I wasn't able to launch the game (Horizons) from the main menu tonight but I think it's just the Odessey launch.
100's of thousands of players who download a new game take precidence over me and that's fair enough. That's strain on servers.
I will try again tomorrow and see if the trickle down update affects my game and let you know.

I'm having way too much fun tormenting everyone who has Odyssey. If anyone thinks I'm salty today, I'm actually not. I kinda find the whole thing funny. Now had I actually paid money for Odyssey, or worse, if Odyssey graphic "updates" were rolled back into Horizons, then I'd be pretty upset. But I still have $40 in my wallet and all my frame rates in Horizons, so I'm just enjoying the high surf today 🏄‍♂️
After all that wait I've decided to skip right past Odyssey and go into Horizons instead. I just need a straighforward way to make money and find materials without dealing with ganky GFX and a weird UI. Although Exigeous finally got some team play working though so I'm kinda playing both.

I have installed Odyssey but not updated Horizons yet.

I use a laptop with a GTX950M 2Gb graphics card which is short of the minimum graphics memory, it took an age to do all the prep work before the game actually started which was worrying.
The game ran smoothly and frame rates weren’t as low as the Alpha with the graphics settings still where I restored them to after the testing so the optimisation has worked.

The start with the cut scene was nice if unexpected, after checking all 4 control binding sections being put straight into an FPS training mission when I clicked Continue was also unexpected and somewhat less nice however most of it went smoothly right up to the shoot your way out of town section which I achieved after about 4 goes though my left out never showed up.
All my Holo-me were present and I was the version last used but I cannot see jackets or other purchased items except for my specs. I will have to check the reams of notes again.

The jackets etc. aren't in Holo-Me anymore but in loadout customization, AFAIK.

My plans got stymied by FD turning off carrier jumping. Apparently there's some technical issue that required them to stop allowing carriers to jump anywhere for a while. And of course they turned off jumping just after I jumped halfway to where I was going. So I'm in the middle of nothing much at all, but can't move the carrier.

Such is release day :)

I did manage to buy all the suits, and a bunch of guns, and I'm headed out into the black a short ways to fuss around on planets. Once I can move again, that is.

I am looking stylish in my Artemis suit, sitting in the remarkably large Krait cockpit :)

Probe efficiency nerf.(ps4).What used to be* a 6 or 7 is now a 9 or 10. Boy, do i feel dumb.
* i say used to be but still in fact is.
Lost connection to the live-game server briefly and whiled away the time against the dastardly pirate Screaming Lambert in the Elite incursion scenario. My opponent was in an Asp of some descriptiom and had serious anger management issues.
I have no idea what ship i was flying although it is reasonable to suppose that my ship is the same.
I guess it is pretty similar to the standard gank scenario of 'live' fame, a simulation if you will of what to expect in the live game but without the (alleged) insults.
Even without guns, it is a fairly entertaining ride, and i might give it another go at some point, although it does seem a pretty pointless activity overall.
In the meantime i managed to re-estalish the link to the game server, and got back to the game. Since my last post i have travelled furthur out toward the rim crossing the wastelands of Vulcan's Gate, vast areas of Y and L stars, with here and there an oasis of a K, M or O star for the much needed fuel refill.
Much caution was required on this stage of the journey, with a constant eye on the fuel guage, and several times i must needs break off from the plotted route.Eventually i made my way to the far side and plunged into the Errant Marches , followig the drift as it bore me towards the Formidine Rift. Once again i encountered a desert, although not such a large one , or perhaps a continuation of that found in Vulcan's Gate, although WW's seemed more abundant. I came across one system containing four(!!) waterworlds, and another with an ELW .
Finally crossed over into the Rift, and am currently within 100 ly of my nominal target system for this region.
Star density is becoming noticeably thinner, and soon i shall be into injection territory. I am well stocked ,carrying enough materials for 150 maximum jumps of 94ly. Hull health is 96%,Power Plant at 73%

Download took 30 minutes for Odyssey so I can only guess the some alpha stuff is still being used...

Only had time for a quick login and play and I have to say "it works!".

The instant tutorial on first load caught me out but seemed pretty smooth. I aborted it though as I wanted to play the game proper. I'll get back to it.

Walking around a station is pretty OK so far. Exiting the sysmap is painfully slow still. Bought three suits. Have to figure out mats for getting the upgraded but I know nothing about all that at the moment.

So, a little later I'll go planetside for a walk and check the performance.

So far, so good.

Just tried it out. I didnt know you can skip the tutorial but since I didnt play the alpha, might as well learn.

1. NOT ENJOYING IT. It makes me suffer nausea like the SRV. How come I cant pick some stuff up with 'E' like the 2nd and 3rd medkits?

2. The last bit with the shoot out. Ugggh. No please. Not space FPS.

3. The new planet terrain and visuals are a BIG improvement. The sense of scale is a lot better as well.

4. How do you tell how long more to go before your Arc Cutter pops the panel? I was just swinging it round and round till it pops. Do you have to cut it evenly or can you just do 1 rectangle and then keep it pointed at 1 spot?

5. The new mission board is gonna take getting used to.

6. Why do I have feelings of deja-vu cough*SKYRIM*cough when I hear some of the NPCs talk.

7. Music at the bar sucks. Can we change it?

One small thing worthy of attention (to some) about this also - after the introductory mission, the game spits you out into Open.

Options -> "Reduce camera shake"

Yeah, not a fan, either, but after this you don't have to pick up a gun again, so...

4. How do you tell how long more to go before your Arc Cutter pops the panel? I was just swinging it round and round till it pops. Do you have to cut it evenly or can you just do 1 rectangle and then keep it pointed at 1 spot?
You have to circle the perimeter of the thing you're cutting. Like with the real plasma cutter. :)
It even guides your cursor while holding fire.

5. The new mission board is gonna take getting used to.
Yep, hate it too. Another step to a total console-fication of the game and generally, the fact I can't use mouse on access panels is just... ehm. I hope it gets changed at some point.

6. Why do I have feelings of deja-vu cough*SKYRIM*cough when I hear some of the NPCs talk.
Every game with talking NPCs ever, I'd say.
7. Music at the bar sucks. Can we change it?
Don't drink before lunch.

Got a mission to a non-landable planet as it seems - settlement down there, but no blue ring around it - trying to approach it, drops me out 300+ km from the settlement, made several attempts to drop out nearer, no luck with that - then a message came in for an alternate location fortunately enough - what crap is that to first send someone to a planet with a settlement on it, where there is no normal approach possible? And if it would have had a normal approach, I would have completed the mission long before that message came in.

Odyssey mission in a Horizons client?

I've been playing for over a year and I see this bug twice in one day. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...yssey-has-launched.575273/page-7#post-9178309

I don't have Odyssey, so this shouldn't effect me. I would have tried to dock there, just to see if there is a docking maneuver at all there - but it would have taken me like 30 minutes to snail down to the settlement in normal space. It behaved like a non-landable planet "too close, dropping from SC" kind of thing on approach.
