Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I don't have Odyssey, so this shouldn't effect me. I would have tried to dock there, just to see if there is a docking maneuver at all there - but it would have taken me like 30 minutes to snail down to the settlement in normal space. It behaved like a non-landable planet "too close, dropping from SC" kind of thing on approach.
Yeah, that's what I understood from the previous post.
But I still think it may be a bleedover - a planet that is landable in Odyssey got added to the mission locations pool in Horizons client.
Because I think though the two clients "technically" run on separate server instances, they may as well share the transaction servers.

This makes sense to me. Problem with that is of course, what if I wouldn't have gotten that alternate location message - try to land there nevertheless, which might be impossible, if that base isn't really implemented in Horizon - or just push my passengers out of the airlock?

Just tried it out. I didnt know you can skip the tutorial but since I didnt play the alpha, might as well learn.

1. NOT ENJOYING IT. It makes me suffer nausea like the SRV. How come I cant pick some stuff up with 'E' like the 2nd and 3rd medkits?

2. The last bit with the shoot out. Ugggh. No please. Not space FPS.

3. The new planet terrain and visuals are a BIG improvement. The sense of scale is a lot better as well.

4. How do you tell how long more to go before your Arc Cutter pops the panel? I was just swinging it round and round till it pops. Do you have to cut it evenly or can you just do 1 rectangle and then keep it pointed at 1 spot?

5. The new mission board is gonna take getting used to.

6. Why do I have feelings of deja-vu cough*SKYRIM*cough when I hear some of the NPCs talk.

7. Music at the bar sucks. Can we change it?

Have you tried increasing the field of view? I was getting nausea and set it to max in the game and that helped a lot. In Odyssey you can have separate FOV’s for ground and everything else. You can also manually edit the FOV if you find the game max doesn’t help much, but not sure of which file you need to edit in Odyssey.

I vote for pushing your passengers out the airlock. it's very satisfying.
Yes, spacing the passengers is always the best course of action.

In all seriousness, though, do report this, because if that mission update didn't save you, that would be an undoable mission, which is clearly a bug.

yes - there is a pacifist solution to it though - just keeping them to the end of the mission time until they will complain and then ask me to drop them off at a station.

I had to change my plans a bit, because FD is still blocking carrier jumps. So I'm stuck in a section of space just outside the bubble a bit, and not where I had planned to be at all.

I decided to make the best of it and attempt to explore where I am. Seems to be mostly discovered around here -- I'm not that far out yet.

But, I did find a landable planet, with a small atmosphere, that wasn't mapped, only discovered. So I made that my first 'first footfall' planet. It's called "IC 2602 SECTOR RE-O B7-7 B 2 A", a name that I will never remember so I better bookmark it :p

To my surprise and pleasure, there were biological signals on the planet, too.

So, here I am, scanning my first exobiological specimen. It's a "Fonticulua Campestris", some kind of photosynthetic colony organism.

There another lifeform on the planet, some kind of bacteria. I haven't see it yet.

There are a few videos from the alpha that attempt to explain how things worked during that, but nothing more.

We don't know how it all works yet. We don't even know entirely what's in it.

You'll have to be part of figuring it out!

I personally found the on-foot stuff to be quite interesting, although I'm not much of an FPS guy. It was possible to do many of the missions stealthily, and I enjoy that.

I DID die a few times at the beginning, but that was to be expected. Later on, I even survived an on-foot conflict zone.

Anyway, I'm more excited about the other changes. I found it quite cool to be able to get out of the ship and walk around on planets. And the visual upgrades will be very nice. This game already looks amazing, and it's going to get better.

Odyssey is my birthday present, too. I'll be 70 on the 20th, one day after Odyssey launches. Happy birthday, CMDR! lol
Happy Birthday Cmdr Codger!!

Oh, a big "0" birthday! Many happy returns! May your backpacks be lined with plant stuffs and materials galore!

So, I made a planetary landing. In my excitement to get down there on foot, I overlooked its gravity. Ouch.

Moving around in the SRV seems a little choppy so I'm fiddling with graphics settings but nothing I do seems to make any difference whether setting them to high or low values. The experimentation continues.

I'm wondering when they'll fix carriers... not being able to jump one feels a little like it's cramping my game :D And, you know, they really should have let more carrier stuff into the alpha, like letting them jump their maximum instead of kneecapping hyperspace travel to 50Lys. Although, to be fair, I'm not sure what these server side issues are all about.

Still, there's enough toys to be going on with.

EDIT, Oh, I managed to get my HUD colours back to "mocha" so that's cool. It helps a bit with the current "darkness" of stuff.

Just be sure to vomit comet 'em just prior to landing. I suspect a lot of the passengers are not being entirely up front about their personal details.
I mean, what kind of 'Famous Explorer' has never bumped into a star on the odd occasion, for goodness sake.

Yes, the named ones can be a little problematic - but I like passenger missions. But I guess I will have to avoid those to planets now, even those are paying best.

Okie lemme go try it.

So all the planets out there which had been SRV'ed, are now open for 'First Footfall Dibs'? Damn I should have camped at Jameson Crashsite.

Imagine being a Hippy in the 31st Century. Space Mushrooms!!!!

OK, here I spam again.

1. Are ALL missions down? I was at Bacon Port and mission board was blank (I am Allied with most of the factions too). Went over to Hurston Hub and the board was totally blank too, anyone else getting this?

2. The ships (tried Krait and ASX so far) seems to roll differently. The inertial seems to be less 'damped'. Anyone notice this or is there some setting tweak to be done.

3. First planet I wanted to jump around on, gave me a 'Dangerous Temperature' or something and wouldnt let me out of the ship or SRV. Is there a suit mod for this or no way around it?

4. What is this load new ship commander y/n? I cant seem to interact with this panel at all, spamming E/Y/N/space and other keys.

5. When I stepped off the Krait at an Outpost, I heard the 'Warning No Gravity, Mag Boots engaged' (or something along those lines), I thought to myself, oh cool, they being realistic and true to the no artificial gravity rule. Then I walked into the bar and I suspect the underpants are magnetic too and everyone is using very very strong hair spray.

6. I kinda like the dingy outpost look better than the big station look. Gives a nice grungy atmosphere. Having the windows to space in the dark musty bar gives a nice feel. But given how the NPCs are wallpaper and there isnt really anything to do, I think I will get sick of it all fast and use the starport services menu after a while. So much potential in here IF ONLY......

I don't have much to say to most your your post (other than that your rants are entertaining and mostly relatable) but I would like to react to this last bit.
This "IF ONLY" is exactly what's going to be happening in the future. Just like the original game changed and improved drastically during its six years run, so will Odyssey.

It's a great framework for a great future game. :)
Until then, I'm going to be enjoying what IS in here, and try not to think too much about things that aren't. This proved to be a great strategy to enjoy the game in long term.
