Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Grr. Where do I see my shield strength and combat percentage to next rank now?

Also, I've just handed in some codex discos but they still show as claimable on my transactions panel.👀

EDIT Must be server lag. Transactions all paid in now... still can't find the wretched rating though.

'Calm down, dear, calm down'.
After steam verified the files, it's now downloading just under 10 gigs that the original download lost when steam ctd, That's upto 10 hours of download so I'm gonna go take a nap.
There is really nothing quite like recycling bloatware.Triple redundancy, that's the ticket.:giggle:

how was it, was it like mine. get a part from a crashed satelite, open up panel, and defend yourself against 5 bots that landed dead on top of you:D then died from the pursuing grenades they throw.
Mine was interesting as well. Took a mission to restart a seuface installation. Landed there, had a prolonged fight with the security there (quite fun but I suck, so it too ages). After that I was left with 14% battery in my suit. So I thought I'd recharge a bit. Of course the power outlets don't work, 'cause the power's out. That's why I'm here, after all.
Okay, so I just restart the powerplant. Easy. So I charge up one access panel to find out where the PP is. All good. Down to 8%. Come to the door, whip out my plasma cutter. My battery runs out mid-cut. Aand that's that, then. No charge cells in sight.
So the question was, can a taxi make it in time to at least get me out.
Nope. It can not.

One thing that I kinda like though is that you only fail the mission you've died to, not all of them. So at least there's that.
Unfortunately what I don't like is that while I haven't run into ANY game breaking bugs and the game runs fine, there is one exception - trying to buy spare charge cells or medkits on the station results in BSD. So yeah. No support missions for me.
Unless I can learn to shoot. Which I won't. :D

Create a market for beer on the FC and try to sell? Nothing happens when I press sell repeatedly. Try to exit market? Game crashes. Had to log back into Horizons to get the beer off my Type 9. I think my superconductors are totally lost. Waste of my time gathering it.
But at least you have now a whole lot of beer to ease the grief - isn't that something?

On a more serious note, maybe ask support nicely - they might help you with this.

You can always wander around surface settlements to find crates of medpacks and batteries to load up from and if you went there in your ship you can use the options at the boarding point to empty your backpack and go and collect more building your supply
Though if your ship was there just getting back in recharges the suit.

I loaded up with suit consumables etc from Pioneer with no problem but that was on the first day.

Yeah, I know. But I don't have a ship.
And I only had about a minute to "wander around". :p

I've been doing a suit and weapon search, looking for already partially upgraded ones on sale at the various ports and stations. It's been going very well on the suit side, but I'm still looking for upgraded weapons.

Here's what I've learned.

Suits and weapons on sale at the Pioneer store can randomly be available in higher grades, or with already-installed upgrades, or both. It's possible that stuff like state or economy factor into what's available, but no one's figured that out yet. I've just been searching randomly.

Here's an example of what you might find, but it's random:

Screenshot_1248.jpg

*Suits and weapons have 5 grades, with each higher grade getting more upgrade slots and better stats
*Upgrade slots are used by the on-foot engineers to add stats and whatnot to your suits and weapons
*Upgrading the grade of a suit or weapon can be done at the store, you just need a bunch of mats. A bunch. A whole bunch.
*Adding an upgrade at an Engineer requires mats and more mats plus unlock requirements.

I've been doing the search by using Apex to take me places, just because it's easy and I can do other stuff at the same time. Turns out that unlocking one of the engineers requires traveling 100LY in a Apex, so I wound up unlocking them by accident. :)

So far, I have all three suits in Grade 3, which seems to be the highest you can get this way. I also picked up a couple Grade 2 suits that had pre-fitted upgrades such as longer O2 supply and better jump jets. I may or may not keep those, it'll depend on how much I like the upgrades and how hard they are to replace.

Weapons-wise I haven't had as much luck yet. I have a couple Grade 2. So I'm still looking.

By getting the suits (and hopefully weapons) at Grade 3 I avoid having to collect a ton of mats to upgrade them. So that's a cool thing :)

A little underwhelming. I was expecting a rousing chorus of Also Spracht Zarathrustra and a "one small step for man" voiceover. Instead, all you get is a text message :D

Still to work on:
  • How do I find geo sites now?
  • Is there an easy way to find bio sites?
  • How do I get to the new engineers and do they provide suit/weapons/scanners upgrades?
  • As @Codger says above, random upgrades appear to be popping up for suits so I may try shopping around.
  • I've not done any ground type mission. At all. I think I'll be crap so I'm putting it off. I just don't have the twitch reactions of yoof :D
All in good time! No need to rush.

Claim to fame: @David Braben seems to have just about the same rig specs as me! /chuffed

EDIT My second carrier jump has worked perfectly \o/

I really enjoy the simple fetch missions. No fighting or anything. It'll take you interesting places. Then just get out, explore around, find the stuff, return home with it.
The interaction with bases is nice and there's really no danger.
...that being said, there was this one time I was flying around the base on my jetpack and a guard yelled at me she wanted to scan me. I wasn't able to land near her quickly enough (because jetpacks) and she actually killed me. That was a bummer. And then I got 500Cr fine. I guess for resisting her bullets? I didn't even have shield on, sheesh.

She wanted to scan you alive, but you chose to get killed before she could do that - clearly a case of disobedience towards authority request. Or maybe for failing to stay dead.

I got a fine as well, this time for failing to deliver goods to a settlement, which is inaccessible in Horizons, because it is an Odyssey settlement. So I had to abandon the mission. Now I know that this is clearly a bug, because this mission type doesn't have "alternate destination" requests afaik.

Let's just say there are some kinks to iron out.

I wouldnt be so sore if it was liquor, I was mainly wanting to stock liquor but it ran out after 2 x T-9 runs so the beer was a what the heck thing. I need the profit margin to pay for the boatload of tritium to Rackham's Peak.

Its ok, to be fair, I got a fair stash of tritium when I was trying to unload my cargo ship so that I could swap to combat krait. Can you imagine I actually ejected tritium!

There are some mission categories that require no twitch skills at all such as go to this settlement and pick up some notes and some of the take this regulator and switch the power back on ones. At least there were in the Alpha.

Is there an easy way to find bio sites?
Falconfly did a good writeup of how it works (or should work -- it can be bugged).

Its part of the Docking Computer system, Docking Computers have been trying to kill their owners for years.
Yeah... that's why they're all called HAL.

Excellent! Ta for linkage!
