Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

How so?
I love the 6A fuel scoop and 5H Guardian FSD booster combo in mine. :)
That leaves you with 6 slots remaining, and the largest of that one is a size 3 (compared to the Dolphin with 7 additional slots after scoop and booster, one of them a size 4). Which means you'll either have to sacrifice two slots for SRVs, or make do with a single SRV.

I know it's sacrilege to say so, but I think the DBx is the worst ship. Don't hit me!

I just can't stand its engine noise.

The ship that, for me (and how it's been fitted out, and painted), is my Mamba, O Ren Ishii. I should take her out more often.
It has one perfect niche: covert errmmmm..."recovery" ops. My shieldless Cold Ethyl runs cool enough that I've heard comms from NPCs asking where those cannon impacts come from, since there's nothing on their radar. In a lot of cases, I can just clean out their cargo bays without a single shot fired.

My Chieftain has two SRV's for Justin.

The only thing it's built for is attacking scavs at wreck sites and the like.

Actually, that's a thought... Perhaps I should've napalmed the evacuated settlement yesterday. Would've softened 'em up s bit.

If the mission says you need to kill ten scavs, does it count if you missile them from your ship?

I don't see why it wouldn't count. I made profitable use of that technique in the last combat cg.

Mine is an EDO mission runner (i still use it to go here and there in the bubble)
Best combination of shields, jump range, fire power and hangar running distance. And not at last, size 4 hangar.
After losing the SRV several times, i started to value having a spare.

I just can't stand its engine noise.

I can definitely relate to this 😂

I'm kinda tempted to buy a non conventional explore ship, like the Federal Corvette, or the Imperial Courier.

Is that a bad idea?
Yes. A lack of jump range or places to fit exploration gear can mess up the fun of the trip. The latter by nagging at you because there are things you can't do, the former because there will be places you can't reach..

No. Having a noticeably different (shorter) jump range could well mean that on even quite well travelled routes you are finding a lot more unvisited systems.

Maybe. It will depend on your patience with making jumps which will be affected by how much you love being in the cockpit of that ship.

I got half way to Sag A in a 20kly jumping cutter. Then said to myself, nope not gonna work.
Went back home an worked on cold long jumping phantom. Best decision I ever made.
Developed a love for the kraits. A phantom unarmed explorer. A hard deadly krait Mk2.
I don't runway from anyone or anything. We'll may a goid or three..... (y)

The Phantom is my go to ship for exploration. Or at least it was. The FC has made me a lazy panda when I want to explore now. I'll jump it, then use a dolphin to visit the surrounding stars.

The Krait II is my goid scout basher and very nice it is too.

Currently, I'm trying to branch out on Odyssey missions but it's another vertical learning curve when it comes to anything more complex than being a postman or wreck raider.

Ditto for the lazy FC thing. I kinda miss the pre-FC thrill of hopping around but when you have an FC, it just makes you not want to leave it in the bubble while you hop out. I dont think its just the 500LY jump effect, its the security blanket effect of having a base near you for repairs and emergencies.
